Thylbanus reacted to Corwin111 in Was Derek Smart right?
Well can you be a bit more specific? Was he right bout what exactly?

Was he right about his initial claim during his first falling out with Chris Roberts, that Star Citizen will never be anything more than the hangar module and a bunch of pretty videos? Well no, I guess he wasn't.

Was he right about it all being a complete scam, designed only to take our money and go buy an island somewhere? Eeeeh, I suppose that would make them the stupidest scammers in history, because they've been spending all that money into making a game instead. Their tax returns are publicly accessible.

Was he right when he said  that 2.0 is "nothing but a tech demo video" and we would never be able to do anything but dogfoghting in arena commander? I guess he was wrong on that one too.

Was he right 2 years ago when he said they are completely out of money and he has it "on good authority" that they will be filing for bankrupcy within a month? No, I suppose he miscalculated that one a teeny bit too.

Was he right about procedurally generated real-size planets not being a viable concept and that they would never be able to make anything like that? Eh... no.

Was he right about... dammit to hell... let me think really really hard.... Oh I HAVE IT! Was he right about Chris Roberts and Sandi Gardiner being married and keeping it semi-secret in order to avoid controversy? YES hell fekin' YES!!! He was RIGHT! He was right about that, guys! Those sneaky bastards! Last time I was so disturbed was during episode 1482 of "As the world turns"!

    ====================================================

In all seriousness, tho. Star Citizen has development problems. It is an extremely ambitious project. They have had to readjust the scale of it several times, from the initial 2 million dollar stretch goal. Have they bitten more than they can chew? It's still possible, I don't believe so myself, but I admit that it remains to be seen.

That said, don't make the mistake of paying much attention to Derek Smart. The man has mental problems. He is salty that his own game "Line of Defense" did not receive the same backing and has been in perpetual development longer than Star Citizen. Jealousy over this drove the man to spend unhealthy amounts of his time stalking the Star Citizen project, instead of pursuing his own. It is a sad story. I don't really want to hate on him too much, I rather feel pity for the man.

Anywhoo, OP I noticed you mentioned that you have played the Star Citizen alpha. So I take it you know what it offers. Not much yet, admittedly. But let me leave you with some footage from Derek Smart's game 'Line Of Defense' which, by his own claim, is being "ripped off" by Star Citizen. Maybe you'll enjoy playing it. It's still in early access. ;-p

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT STAR CITIZEN FOOTAGE!!! JUST IN CASE ANYONE DIDN'T READ THE WALL OF TEXT FOR CONTEXT.

You will be totally fine spending that kind of money. You will be totally fine spending hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars in the US as well. The main complication is how comfortable you are revealing information to an exchange, virtually a broker. For example, coinbase.com, I highly regarded US-based fiat currency exchange, you can spend or sell in volumes under 10k with basic information and identity. It is relatively easy to set up and will involve a few days to confirm your identity and checking account, just like a normal broker. They will ask for taxation information and how to report, among other things, at the beginning and then once you exceed certain volumes per trade. Which can be avoided if you just cap sending and receiving transactions to $9,999. However, if you want to transfer $10,000 or more at once to or from coinbase, then you will need to give them more information(prove your identity, provide proof of residence, etc) It's not too bad, boring, following the law stuff.

Regardless, in the US, you do not need to worry about the legality, assuming you use a proper exchange. A proper exchange won't allow you to break the law on their end. For example, Coinbase is a cut above virtually any other exchange. The only other equally 'legit' exchange(in my opinion) is based in Stuttgart, Germany and is highly regulated and audited, bitstamp.com . Only downside is that you will be required to reveal an invasive amount of information to do anything, whatsoever. On the other hand, there are other exchanges that are on the 'sketchy' side where one should be very concerned about privacy, legality and overall security. Other than coinbase and bitstamp I can recommend bitfiniex.com and bittrex.com.

Coinbase/GDAX and bitfinex are all I use now.

Coinbase only supports bitcoin, litecoin and ethereum. If you are interested in any of the other 1,200 other coins (www.coinmarketcap.com) then you will probably find them on bitfinex.

My advice if I were you:
    1. I would begin setting up an account with coinbase asap

    2. After linking your bank account (credit card is available, but convenience fees are very heavy)and freeing up the liberty to invest how much you want to, set up your account with GDAX. This is like a little secret for cutting what would be commission if you were investing in the NYSE. Coinbase owns GDAX and your accounts are essentially connected. For example, after the 5 or so business days it takes to move fiat from your checking or savings account to coinbase, you can then move and use that currency instantly through coinbase or GDAX. If you choose to skip GDAX, then just expect to pay slightly higher fees and have less buying or selling options (coinbase is virtually pure market orders)

    3. Purchase a Ledger Nano S or Trezor hardware wallet to store your bitcoin securely long term. This is very important. DO NOT leave your cryptocurrency on an exchange. Take control of it with your own usb 'bank' device disconnected to and incorruptible by the internet. Also, keep in mind that cold storage wallets only support certain coins and there are 'hot' wallets based on internet services that support anything and everything(Bitcoin is 1 of 1,200+ cryptocurrencies) but are technically less secure. A Trezor or Ledger Nano S are the most secure ways of holding your digital currency, especially long-term.

    4. Finally, wait for bitcoin to bottom out and then buy, easy advice, but could go a long way. Bitcoin cash, in my opinion, you should stay away from, especially long term. Even though BCH has gone from ~$600 to ~$2,400 briefly in basically 72 hours, bitcoin will always be king. Wait for the bitcoin, BTC, correction that will potentially bring it all the way down to 5k per bitcoin and then buy.

    www.coinmarketkap.com

You are making an excellent decision. When there are 21 million bitcoin out there in circulation, it will become a hording game; there is no inflation in this game. Bitcoin will be worth 10's of thousands in 2018.

    Hello,

If your Steam account has been locked it is not due to the key purchased, Steam does not lock accounts for such keys. If however this is about a revoked game (like this: http://prntscr.com/a9qxve) then that means that the key you have purchased was previously bought by fraudulent means, and not that your credit card has been compromised, there was no need to remove your cards in such situation. Also just to clarify, due to Privacy Statement we are not allowed to store our customers credit card information. With or without G2A Shield you are still fully entitled to our procedures for getting your moneys worth of course. Just to make sure that your issue does not go unresolved, please contact us at helpdesk(at)g2a.com so we can look into this matter with more detail.

If you have any further questions or doubts, keep in mind that you can always find additional information on G2A's FAQ or by contacting us on Live Chat or writing at helpdesk(at)g2a.com. Our consultants are there for you 24/7.

    See you again at G2A!

This it totally erroneous.  SQ was never meant to be a faithful space sim, it was meant to be a fun military space sim that had as much realism that fun could stand.  Fun will trump reality in EVERY case.  So only as faithful as fun would allow.

The features were added at community request and had to be stopped by CIG lest it get too large.  WE requested additional features and wanted greater ambition.  WE gave CIG the green light on this.  The only thing now that wasn't part of the feature set that WILL be making it in is the seamless planet to space transitions.

As for further away, it has had no date since we opted to allow CIG as much time as they needed to get it right somewhere around when we passed $20 million on Sept. 26, 2013 (upon further review, there was never was a release date stated).  If you follow game development at all, you know how long a game takes, but someone was nice enough to provide a chart last year June 2015 (hope someone updates it):

It's why I keep reminding people, if we follow ESO, SC woun't be out until 2019.

Well they've been working on SQ 42 from the start and it's been top priority but they can only show the MMO but you look at the features and you can see what's in game is really only built for SQ42, like most older games the multiplayer is just a by product.

Wing Commander is outdated as well so they have to bring the next evolution of it however I do get where your coming from WC was a game from my past that I loved so much but I honest think the setbacks will be worth the wait and the additional mechanics will only add to it.

I understand what you mean, and I'm not one of the people screaming for a refund or anything. The money I spent on this game was a gamble from the beginning, I've just decided that Squadron 42 will have to be enough for me, for now, and if I get the rest of the game than I will be happy with it.

Bethesda Game Studios is the branch that develops the single-player RPG games. Elder Scrolls Online is developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, and published by Bethesda Softworks, which is a different branch than Bethesda Game Studios. All of them are branches of ZeniMax Media.

I can tell you right now this game will never be considered pay to win. Let me put it this way to you (numbers picked randomly):
Player A spends 5 hours a week playing. He earns about 10,000 UEC a week.
Player B spends 20 hours a week playing. He earns about 30,000 UEC a week.
Player A has a little extra money, so he buys 30,000 UEC.
Player A now has 40,000 UEC.
Player A buys a brand new ship with advanced weaponry, because he wants to be better at the game.
Player B upgrades his ship, because he wants to be better at the game. His ship is already insured.
Player A does not really understand the value of insurance, so he does not buy it.
Player A and Player B encounter each other and hostilities erupt. Player B is by far the more experienced player, and easily decimates the 'better' ship by being the more capable pilot, despite having what some would consider to be a disadvantage.

I have seen Auroras rip Hornet pilots to shreds. I have seen the 300 series tear apart Vanguards. Experience will trump a wallet, every time.

There is no 'better' ship, each ship is build around a certian thing, the Auroras are cheap all round ships. Avenger in its current shape is a hella good fighter but probably wont be quite as good after some changes. The 315p is more designed around exploration than straight up fighting.

Agreeing with others above, REC is well worth the grind in games as you earn a good amount in all the arena commander online game modes. As the weapons change all the time its a good idea to try them rather than be stuck with them and then find they get nerfed and made awful.

Do you...? It just became as cheap as it was pre-hynix factory fire 2013... DDR2 isn't all that cheap btw. Just because a new tech comes out doesn't mean the old one comes down in price. DDR3, like DDR2, will lower in price for a while, then when everyone stops making it, it will raise in price again for the 15 people who need it.

Also no, you don't really need 32gb of ram for just gaming.
