  1. to machines sure. but people can't measure decibels.
  2. says who? spring weight is a huge factor in liking a switch. weight is the only difference between red and black.
  3. yes it IS relative people hear certain frequencies better than others. if you're sensitive to the pitch of the fan motor, then it's going to be much more bothersome to you.
  4. WASD really offers no benefits. the reason to go for WASD is IF it is cheaper.
  5. just make some custom switches. you might find a combination you like more than the stock ones. for me, blues with a spring from a clear is very nice.
  6. DO NOT trust any claims of good 4K hardware scalers. 4K hasn't been around long enough for scalers to have been optimized like 720p content on 1080p screens has been. you need to trigger your GPU's hardware scaler somehow and hopefully it's good.
  7. pretty convinced slick doesn't actually successfully use win8. he mentioned how he 'has to wait' for the charms hotcorner, when the proper usage is to hotcorner, then actually move your mouse to the charm you want.no waiting involved
  8. you are not forced to have a password on your desktop on in 8.1 with a local account
  9. sure. just give me the option to disable it. my taskbar is for productivity, not to show off pretty icons. at least this update wasn't as stupid as the start button that literally did nothing except reduce the size of the taskbar in 8.1 i have no freaking clue how windowed metro apps are going to feel to use.
  10. it's really smarter to just get a usb hub. are you sure that you don't have two peripherals that will be fine on a hub?
  11. i was thinking along the lines of how apple does their speaker cutouts on their macbook pros. just laser a bunch of tiny holes next to each other.
  12. does this even exist? you want to convert an sd card slot into a usb port?
  13. not sure what adam is talking about. there are individual aluminum novelty keycaps sold regularly and in stock. but for a fullset? the only really popular one was 'scarface' and that has been a collector's item for a year or few already. alu sets are pretty sought after on geekhack and i'm pretty sure someone would have posted about a public source. backlit? never heard of one and don't think it will ever happen. ZINC alphasets exists (~37 keys), but I don't think mods for them do or they're not very common at least. so, if you want an aluminum set, you should try to FIND someone with the scarface set and then be prepared to fork over 100s of dollars. EDIT: truthfully, I don't even remember scarface having mods. but don't quote me on that.
  14. that doesn't look bad at all......it's just cause you have a really bright light shined at it. you'll be hard pressed to find very many rooms cleaner than that anywhere on earth outside of a fab clean room.
  15. netflix works fine. just uninstall and reinstall. make sure you're updating in windows update too.

    Keycaps

they're going to be a different slope than the stock keys on your board. you bought DCS profile. if your replacement set was OEM profile, they're not going to match

    Keycaps

I don't really shop for ABS caps, so I can't think of any specific sets off the top of my head. but you might have better luck on geekhack main site/classifieds. you're looking for a 'tsangan' set/mods
  18. mainly don't let her find out you're getting advice online. it makes you look less proactive and that bugs girls .
  19. no. not a buckling spring model m. just no. once again. not a buckling spring model m. really. no.
  20. you've must of heard topre, he mentions it in like every video lol. but if you're not talking about topre, what you're referring to is orings. it's just a rubber ring placed on the keycap stem to absorb force without making any sound. it's not part of the keycap. it will work on any keycap and is completely removable.
  21. why doesn't razer do that? not familiar with razer's entire product line, but razer is basically apple's gaming brand. so why doesn't apple make cheap products? it diminishes their brand that they put millions worth of investment into. also, everyday folks feel ripped off when they see fewer keys on their keyboards (done ALOT of asking around for this and not a single regular person was happy with the idea of buying the hhkb for $40 when they can get a regular dell keyboard for $25 ("and it has more keys"))
  22. you're thinking of topre. you're probably referring to the key switch and not the keycap. topre is really quiet without any modding, it's also very expensive
  23. oh.... switch cost is pretty much public knowledge(that is to say, they don't cost very much). we just don't know exactly how much razer and their mamufacturer orders at a time but we can get switches for $0.67 from resellers as consumers (depending on switch and it's current supply and popularity). it's hard to imagine them paying more than $0.45. like i said before, keyboards are really high margin. switch cost is really not a factor in the final cost of the keyboard because markup is huge to begin with
  24. razer is doing this for 2 reasons: 1. they're saving money 2. they're abstracting away their supplier and demand for their component. when the user can't name the supplier of a product component. they can't say: 'please buy that part from that supplier'. when they can't say that, the supplier can't negotiate and raise prices. so, people are going from asking for cherry mx switches, to asking for razor switches. they will NEVER ask for kalih switches though. it sucks for the consumer, but this is capitalism. you don't need to fool everyone, just most people.
