  1. i always prefer nvidia because i use shadowplay and streaming BUT the 380 is a great card and slightly better than the 960, if you have the money don't worry to much about bottlenecks on a 970, or a 390 as you will still perform better just not as good as the card is capable of and you can upgrade a part at a time. i can not stress how much you should not get a 700 ANY 700 series card atm. they simply suck for dx 12 games across the spectrum.
  2. it is beautiful mate. do you find yourself starring into her USB ports longingly? sometimes, when it is quiet i caress my towers back plate.
  3. you shoulda kept that 290x and used a custom fan curve or put a cooler on it....you blew it mate
  4. either are good cards . if you like shadowplay and nvidia stream get gtx 4gb 960. dont bother with a 2gb gtx 960 imho. the 380 has a bit AND ONLY a bit more omph in games so if you want a few more fps get the 380. do realize the 380 will not give more fps in every game as nvidia holds advantages in some titles but in most the 380 is the winner.
  5. 390 has more vram and is cheaper brand new in general if you like asus or powercolor. 970 has better drivers and updates in general and shadowplay. if you find a deal don't be afraid of either
  6. in direct conflict with some around here cx psu are very good imho. but at the price you are paying far that and to be able to breathe i would grab a cx 600w or evga bronze 500w as the price just makes sense for future growth etc.
  7. also ensure you are plugging monitor into the correct dvi i or dvi d slot on the gpu...should have listed that in last post. sorry, also in board explorer if your slot is populated and recognized it should be highlighted and say something like running at 16x, if it does not see a gpu it will say empty and not be highlighted
  8. k a few things you can check. one if the board is not fully seated in the top pcie slot it will not pick up. two, i have seen a few who think that they dont need to plug in both power connectors on the gpu, ensure you did. three in your msi bios you have a feature called board explorer. please hover over the slot you have the gpu plugged in at and see what it says. if it is detected then you can try uninstalling BOTH the gpu drivers and the igpu drivers and then reinstalling the card and drivers. if it is not detected you can go to save and exit, load default values. load the default values and save then exit. if that does not work...probably rma time
  9. everyone waiting on dx12 to save amd....i'm so going to laugh
  10. if i hadnt just bought another yesterday i would jump all over that it is a great deal and most overclock like beasts
  11. have several gtx 970. best is msi gaming, got to 1575 with a score so high in valley its stupid. my evga ssc came close at 1475 core
  12. they can live with it because you are in no meaningful way shortening the life of your haswell at even 85c. the chip is designed to run at high temps. in fact haswell also only thermal throttles once it hits 99c which is where intel says it gets dangerous enough to kick performance for safety
  13. that is way to much annoyance. tell ya what ill do as a friend of a fellow ltt forumer ill take that ol junk off ya foe 20 bucks and ill even pay for shipping. you dont wanna be working to get that crap out... ... ... got a deal? ... ... how about now?
  14. i never go wrong with MSI but be mindful that on the gaming pro the bios that comes with does not play well with windows 7 . update bios before installing 7 and upgrading to 10 if that is the path you will take. might give the msi z170a krait edition a look if you want as well, and the z170a sli plus
  15. indeed skylake can go 1.5 but 1.375 is as far as i go. some say 1.4 but im a play it safe guy. who knows how many will be dead in a year pushing a bit too hard
  16. 1.32 for 4.8 is great mate. if yours got better volts stable for 12 then you win. me ive probably done 15 or so 6600k overclocks. my best one yet... i would never gl above 1.375...i sell reliability
  17. a hundred bucks is the budget end of the HIGH END boards. if you buy msi, or any major brand for 100+ you are going to be getting a good board. now if you go 30 bones don't be expecting world class mate
  18. Just won. Bought a new 6600k and overclocked it. 4.8 GHz at 1.32v with 46 ring, best one i've got so far. so now im keeping it and passing mine down lmao. that voltage is sweet
  19. depends on how you look at things. there will ALWAYS be the next big awesome new shiney thingy yum yum just around the bend. prices are great if you look in the right places. i just bought another gtx 970 not more than an hour ago from evga b stock. 250.00 and a 1 year warranty. ill take that price all day long mates
  20. on newegg you can get 2x8 sticks so 16gb of ddr3 for as little as 50 bucks (mushkin) 72 for really great stuff. as for performance only if your doing extreme stuff http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%20600006072&IsNodeId=1&Description=ddr3&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=30
  21. many youtube videos will show you that a 4gb gtx 960 performs better than a 2gb. google search gtx 960 2gb vs 4gb videos and watch. if you are like me and like shadowplay and streaming the 960 is the way to go if that is your max price point
  22. noticed. corrected before your reply. sorry
  23. for 1440p. for auto cad i have always used a dgpu but a 5300 igpu should do fine. look at it this way. i have a surface pro 3 im typing on right now. it is at 1440p. i dock it to 2 1440p monitors often and i have to adjust my native screen because of the 3.2 aspect ratio and my touch monitor but it drives all 3 awesomely. you have a real core i 7 with no throttle issues. your i7 and 5300 will drive your monitors easily. but if you try games its gonna laugh at you.
  24. gtx 970 passmark 8672 / r9 290 passmark 6862. both are good cards but there is no doubt the gtx 970 is better. by a lot. just look up gaming vids comparing the 2 cards at the same setting and system specs. 970 everytime
