  1. Yup, and your choice does not support it. Might not be worth it for you - but at least something to keep in mind in a server.
  2. Add-on sata adapter cards do work as far as i know. On the drives - Seagate doesn't seem to be the most reliable brand in drives right now: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-failure-rates-q3-2017/ Maybe go for dual channel ram instead of one DIMM (tho speed shouldn't really be that affected in a NAS) and ECC would be supported by the CPU.
  3. An SSD is the single most significant upgrade in the last decade or so. The speed is fantastic and the reliability is too.
