  1. The issue with EPYC is quite honestly, performance. EPYC is designed for the datacenter, so clock speeds are much lower. This is done in order to meet the cooling requirements of a rack mounted system. You can take all that cash for EPYC and throw it at Threadripper and you'll have a faster machine at the end of the day. EPYC scales to a higher core count, so if you had the thousands needed for the top end offering, you COULD end up with a faster rendering machine over Threadripper, but for $999 (and eventually, street prices will come down), Threadripper is a damn good value. AMD chips are extremely competitive with Intel chips when it comes to gaming. I think that AMD shot themselves in the foot with the memory issues. Most reviews came back showing a massive disadvantage for gaming, but later on, once the memory issues were straightened out, this is no longer the case. A Ryzen 7 1800X ($369 at my local Microcenter) with DDR4 3200 either beats the 7700k or is within 5% of it in every benchmark I've seen with the exception of Rocket League (which is likely due to a bug). Threadripper in game mode completely stomps Intel's offerings, even when overclocked. Check out Anandtech bench for example, the results will surprise you. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who doesn't currently own a single AMD part. I am looking at purchasing an AMD CPU for the first time in over a decade. I do consulting, anything from software development in a myriad of languages to custom graphics and videos, and in my free time? I game. Due to my requirements. I am going to pick up a 1950x as soon as demand slows down and you can find the products in stock. The value/performance is an absolute steal for my use case.
  2. Testing has shown this to not be an issue except for legacy applications. Threadripper has a 'game mode' that can be used for legacy applications.
  3. A lot of people are claiming that Threadripper is only worth it if you do X or Threadripper is only worth it if you do Y. I'm going to take another approach. Financially, can you afford to put together a Threadripper based machine? If so, do it! There are no disadvantages to Threadripper other than price and electricity. Threadripper meets or exceeds intel offerings in every category, including gaming. I am someone with workloads that will benefit from Threadripper. However, even if I weren't, I would still build one...because why not? If you have good income and can afford it, go ahead!
  4. Sorry for a delay. While there is a way to change the payment method, there is no way to tell PayPal to retry the payment. So I'm stuck without Floatplane for a while. For those that need to update the payment method, click Profile, Profile and settings, and then click My Money. In the My preapproved payments section click update. On that screen you can either change the payment by clicking the 'Set Available Funding Sources' or you can click on Linus Media Group Inc. and set it that way. @colonel_mortis You guys should consider adding something to tell PayPal to retry the payment.
  5. He should take the time to review. Include a link to the 'full' review video as well.
  6. You could get both depending on what your budget is. A 250 GB 850 evo is $108 on Amazon, add another $100 for a cheap monitor and you are good to go.
  7. I had to add a new card to my PayPal account. Do I need to set up a new subscription or is there some way to make it retry with a new card?
  8. I get together with a bunch of friends every year. We do a combination LAN party and vacation. Last year we went to Germany. Plenty of gaming, drinking, sight seeing, and more. This year we are going to Northern California (about half of us are from other countries) and 2 years ago we went to Canada. So if your budget allows for it, try it.
  9. Not true. I stream in 1080p at a very high bitrate without issue.
  10. This guy is trolling pretty much everyone, my advice would be to ignore him. Here in the U.S, unless you've been actively defrauding the government your entire life (by not paying taxes), you'll get a few thousand dollars in disability alone if you are disabled. That doesn't count foodstamps, any private disability, etc. You also automatically get qualified for medicare. There are also very few 'illegal immigrants' that would receive ANY healthcare or any benefits at all without having proof that they are born here and are U.S. citizens. Edit: BTW, for anyone looking for a source, you can probably visit the Social Security website. I know how the system works personally because my dad was severely injured in a car accident when I was 5 years old or so. My dad instantly started receiving SSDI, and my mom did as well until we turn 18. My dad (who made no more than $30,000/year up until the day of the car accident) receives $2,000/mo of disability + medicare. This pays for the nursing home he stays in + some extra cash. My social security statement states that I would make far more then that, at the age of 35, if i became disabled today.
  11. I've been having the same issue the past couple of months. I've been busy anyway and haven't had time to post, but it started when my payment failed. Once it renewed successfully I no longer have access. @colonel_mortis
  12. They should have waited another year at least. For this iteration, they should have included 2 USB type C ports alongside the regular ports. They also should have kept the same power adapter. The magsafe power adapter was always one of the unique and cool features of the MBP.
  13. Verizon HAS their own video service. It is crap and they are having a very hard time gaining decent traction. I am very disappointed with this news. I loved getting unique content from vessel.
