  1. If you don't want to see the opening go to the next paragraph. Hi Guys, been looking at the newer apple products recently and have been swayed to at least try an iPhone out due to getting some IPAD pro's at work, which I quite liked the speed of. I have always been a die hard Android fan, but recently looking deeper into the grasp that google has on me I find myself wanting to completely change. To add some context, I found the "My Activity" tab. It labelled things such as every search, my location, what apps I used and when I opened them. This was all a bit strange to see and yes I know that this information will be use to provide you with services, but this seems to be deeply integrated into Google. The topping on the cake was that I am using a Huawei P20 Pro. The technology is amazing, but the software and stuff is of course still android and with the EMUI skin. With the recent troubles with Huawei I am eager to move away from them. I know there may not be any evidence of anything being done but it will always be in my mind. So I ask, has anyone successfully switched from Android to iphone and not gone back. I ask this cause I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus to play around with and by what I see I will be having problems with WhatsApp specifically as I apparently cannot transfer the chats?!?! Now I do have alot of chats on android which are all backed up to the drive. I can't help but think its a shame to not bring them with me. It has historic chats with people close to me, partner, family, friends etc which I would have to start all over again. Is it worth giving this up to get into the apple eco system? I wouldn't mind as much but once you log into the WhatsApp on another phone it locks you out on the original app. What would you do? Please No Android vs iPhone arguments as I don't want anything to get out of hand. Thanks for your help.
  2. At my workplace we are using windows defender (Windows 10 one) as standard and is controlled by the central server, but is behind some big industrial firewall so that probably helps. Would I be ok with that if I got a decent router with a good admin GUI with good firewall and other features? I heard AVG can be quite a resource hog, or am I mistaken? My connection is only a bog standard 100mbps line, with a potential upgrade to 350 or 500mbps in the future. It would be an WAP and Switch as my ISP forces the use of their provided router even if its just in Modem mode. Thanks for your help.
  3. Hi @Jarno., Yeah that it basically what I am asking but with a mix of the security aspect. Within my router there is a Modem Mode that can be activated and reading some amazon reviews lots of people seems to have done this with Virgin media. I haven't heard of that before, is it a fully free one or will it prompt me to buy the paid for version? Thanks for your reply
  4. Hey Everyone, I'm just on here to look for what peoples opinons are. So we have Norton antivirus ending soon (I know its paid for, but it was good for my parents at the time) and really we don't want to spend money on a subscription and want to save money in the long run. We also have a wireless router that was supplied from my ISP, I know I don't have to say but it is of average quality but we tolerated it. Now is the time I am thinking whether to upgrade to alot better router, end norton antivirus and use the built in Microsoft defender and some preventative teaching to keep my home network safe. I am quite experienced with networking so the more advanced nature of networking isn't really scary, but I have not been in this predicament before so I don't really know the non enterprise options that are good. So what I would like to know is what are the some of the best routers for the best experience, seciuirty and speed I could get for a maximum of around £150 to £200. I see some that are Asus and Netgear and just think whether these are more secure than my current router and will at least be a good combination with the built in Antivirus. Some information to note: Most devices are Windows 10 or android 7+. I don't have IoT devices (Alexa or google home) I have some smart TV's from samsung. My ISP is Virgin Media (UK) Router is Virgin Provided SuperHub 3 I hope to have some help in deciding the most secure router I could get that is also a known and supported brand. Thanks Jake
  5. Off the grid isn't really too practical for me as I do need the internet for work. I would rather just not have the big corporations getting data. Exactly why I have no facebook due to their fiasco.
  6. I can protect myself online, I can't protect myself for all the data harvesting in the Operating system I use on my machine, either way it will still report back.
  7. Did you ever get the message saying unsupported hardware and not getting updates? Have you run the unofficial patch to get around it?
  8. You can hide it from the task bar, disable it, but when you end the process tree cortana still comes back even when you have it completely disabled. The "pick up where I left off" feature is part of the cortana package and having is disabled should not even have any of these settings. Google pick up where I left off windows 10 and click the one that is addictivetips . Not all updates that are installed automatically are security updates, granted there are a lot, but not all of them.
  9. Hey guys, as the title suggests I have finally had enough of Windows 10. The last straw has finally done it for me. It promised so much and it did deliver, but the way it has been made to update automatically and the ways that have been utilised to get people to upgrade from the previous OS is ridiculous. I may be hating on it a bit much but I no longer feel I have the freedom to do whatever I want with my computer I feel like everything I do is watched by our overlords. Cortana constantly wants to be turned on so she can harvest my data help me with my day to day tasks. The privacy concerns are only growing and are not getting better in my opinion. Somehow every time I start my PC spotify and other programs I used seems to load up without me doing anything, yes hibernation is off and there is no programs running on startup or in task scheduler. I hate how it seems everytime I need to quickly restart my computer there is updates that are needed to install. We shouldn't have to go to the local group policy just so we can get the option to restart without updating. It honestly saddens me that windows 10 is going to be the last windows and in the not too distant future it will be the only OS that Microsoft offers mainstream support on. With the recent going's on with facebook's user data being used the way it has, it worry's me how much data a company can actually collect from you even when you think it isn't too much on you, it all adds up. With that rant out of the way I request everyone's opinions and knowledge. I have a Ryzen CPU and would like one of the previous windows (Either 7 or 8.1) I know that windows 8.1 for a fact is not supported for Ryzen and apparently doesn't get updates without the unofficial path, win 7 as well?? (I am not too well informed of the details on this however) as for windows 7 I honestly don't know too much about Ryzen support on it as I know AMD has the chipset drivers for that but not 8.1. Is there a reason I should or shouldn't go to one of these older OS's? Gaming performance is one thing for me but that is less important than privacy IMO. These are just my opinons guys and I do not mean to offend anyone by this. Thank you LTT community.
  10. One thing I would suggest, if you haven't already started your project is something called Neth Server. I have been playing around with it and can be something very powerful. It is a server OS and is based off of CentOS but with just a command line interface on the host computer. I have configured mine through the web based UI from my main PC and have set up user accounts so people in my household have a drive they can put files on to keep them safe. I also have a shared area for all my family so we can share files if needed. It is very powerful and once you get the hang of it (After an hour or two of just messing around) you can make something very secure and free. Any problems and there is a thriving community for it and I can also help if needed.
  11. But that temperature is noting to really be concerned about. Looking around some people get around 55 degrees celsius when gaming. The time you would need to worry is when it starts exceeding 80 Degrees celsius. You can always try the Asus real bench test for overclocking? (Can be used for stock clocks anyway)
  12. I may sound really dumb right now but I might as well be better safe than sorry. I have set up port forwarding on a port to my server administration panel. I would like to know is if I have the computer that's port forwarded off will this leave a vulnerability in my network or would it only be open and exploited when the machine is online? I have it port forwarded so I can show it to a friend to help me out tomorrow. Thanks in advance. Jake
  13. I have been looking into getting a better monitor. I would like it to be a noticeable upgrade from my current 1080p panel. I have looked into the LG Widescreen 5ms 2560 x 1080 monitors https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BV1XB2K?pf_rd_p=9daa0afc-fa5f-4673-9ff4-e926d27e7d1b&pf_rd_r=1JBSV52GAMAZETM3KJW1&th=1 and also the AOC 1440p 1MS monitior 27 INCH. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-Response-Monitor-Display-Q2778VQE/dp/B00U2ZZX5A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1509991952&sr=8-1&keywords=aoc+1440p Now my GPU can run my games at 1440p at settings I am comfortable with (Using DSR) but I noticed that turning off MSAA and FXAA (More MSAA) yeilded more FPS in my games. So I wonder is AA still warranted with these higher resolution monitors or is the jagged edges still a noticeable Eye Soar? Any Options would be great as would like to think what other people think.
  14. Thank you I can stop checking the temps now when it sounds load
  15. So its alright that my fans speed up after a bit of time gaming?
