Biography
I'm a up-and-coming student in the delightful little hole known as Grimsby. I'm trying to get into tech and games, while keeping an interest in politics, and advising some on the subject in the process.
I have had experience with, system building, modding, repairs, networking, video, video editing, sound production, game reviews, movie reviews, and being red-headed in a town with the IQ of brick.
More of a challenge than you might think. -

This is a joke right? Apple have had under/over-flow string parsing errors on iOS three times now. How the Billy-Joe-F*** does this keep happening?

Spectre+Meltdown should i build now.
Mace ya face replied to noobbuilder's topic in New Builds and Planning
Let me break this down. How awful is GPZ V1/V2/V3? AKA Spectre 1, 2, and Meltdown? Awful. How widespread is it? Very. Very very. But Meltdown does not impact AMD. How dangerous is it? Extremely. Apocalyptical kinda bad. How easy is it to pull off? EASY!? It's like trying to force a horny octopus into a string bag. That's the crux here. All the exploits are extremely hard to use in an effective manor for a large scale attack. Even that Javascript hijack can easily be messed with by having something as simple as a JS blocker running, or a sandboxed JS environment (hello FireFox), or something like bank-group swap enabled/disabled. In the end, the performance impact is effectively nothing to the average user and gamer, and there is little to worry about for now. Though given enough time, the hackers will get better. I've done loads of reverse engineering stuff over the years. Either because the DRM was total shite, the online features were too restrictive, or, I just got bored. So I played around with the guts of the new toy I bought from Steam. A huge reason, and my main one, is education. Proper reverse-engineering is a dying skill, and cracking is a fantastic tool for education. One of the best tools out there for RE, is a "hacker simulator" called Micro-Corruption. Being able to say, "I cracked game X that I purchased to practice", looks really good.

Risks associated with flashing a new GPU bios?
Mace ya face replied to Revamp's topic in Graphics Cards
Again, VRM. It's not just you GPU that's being cooled. GIGABYTE's solution has a 0db fan mode because, to be a little harsh, they engineered it better. You run a serious chance of damaging it, even with a 20% fan speed, as it may not be enough cooling for that VRM. -

Any tips for sourcing used server gear in Europe?
Mace ya face replied to Apepa's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Closing law firms, school equipment providers, system administration companies for local police (got a few switches that way over the years) and large scale e-waste handlers. I'm in the UK and gotten server/work-station stuff those each of the ways listed. -
vrm cooling Will my VRM be fine?
Mace ya face replied to smitdylan2001's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Most likely to be fine. The issue is that the board and it's VRM is not designed for this kind of work-load 24/7. Stability over time is the greater concern.- 4 replies

AMD Ryzen 7 1800X VS Intel i7 8700K
Mace ya face replied to Abhinavp's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
UK/Europe/Brazil? RYZEN. Intel's pricing is a joke. Any where else in the world? 8700K. -
Bios black screen ( windows run just fine )
Mace ya face replied to PSP.'s topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Is you motherboard MSI? If so, you must use a digital to digital connection for your monitor. E.g. HDMI / DP with no adapters. It's an ancient issues with MSI boards that has hit some users over the years. -
CPU voltage stuck at standard value (Ryzen)
Mace ya face replied to kiicki's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
The "My RYZEN is locked a frequency X and voltage Y" bug from ASUS has returned for a lot of people following their spectre fix roll out. My 1700 gets locked to 2.25GHz if i use a C6H BIOS later than, and including 3502. Nothing you can do buddy.- 7 replies

Does the motherboard affect gpu overclock?
Mace ya face replied to Docretier's topic in Graphics Cards
Only if the GPU is pulling all it's power over the PCIe connector, and the motherboard has really sub-par power delivery over the PCIe. -
Risks associated with flashing a new GPU bios?
Mace ya face replied to Revamp's topic in Graphics Cards
Based on the BIOS chips, controllers, VRAM chips, sensors, and NVidia's weird and awful BIOS homogenisation, you shouldn't brick in theory. What WILL happen, is that you'll melt you VRM/GPU. The reason the 1080 Mini has a 34% minimum speed, is because it has barely any heat-sink, and borderline VRM cooling. If you were to force enable 0db mode, you could damage the GPU/VRM. In conclusion, nah mate. Just don't. -
I think I'll be going 16:9. £600 GPU + £1000 monitor for 40-50FPS isn't worth it.
