Speakers? Yes. Headphones? No. 7.1 is not possible in a headphone. Any headphones that claim 7.1 is all fake and it sucks. No one should ever buy a gaming headset, headphones are MUCH better always.

If you have actual speakers, sure. "7.1 surround" in headphones is often not really all that great.

Can you possibly test with firestrike?

I know those scores better and can tell you whether or not you're on par with what you should be getting.

    Hello people of the interwebs!

First post to this forum, but I've found it very useful in the past so thank you in advance for all/any who reply.

So I've just built my new rig with the following:
    6700K
    Asrock Extreme4 z170
    2133 kingston 1x8gb ddr4 ram
    120GB 850 EVO M.2
    1250W Enermax
    GTX 970 G1 x 2 in sli

Now a quick warning to all who buy an Asrock Extreme4 z170 or the + version. I had to upgrade from 1.0 to 1.6 bios in order to stop MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and IRQ_ NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bsod from crippling my system (windows installed ONCE, then bsod loops, then Win 8.1 wouldn't reinstall).

OK, so my issue is with my 3D Mark 11 (P) physics and combined scores. Compared to my 2700K and other 6700K scores I've found online, it's a tad low for my OC (currently 4.7GHz preset in bios)

    2700K @ 4.7 - Physics= 9719 Combined= 9083
    6700K @ Stock - Physics= 8294 Combined= 8067
    6700K @ 4.7 Physics= 8644 Combined=8395

Tests I've found online (top 10 3d mark 11 scores) put the 6700k in the 10-12k score range for each test... so why cant i get that score? Is there something in my rig holding me back? I doubt the motherboard is so cheap that it would put me down 2-4K in points. Could it be the Ram amount or speed?

But Jim... maybe your chip is just a little crap? Well I wondered that too so I looked up Cinebench R15 scores and mine are pretty damn good, even if I say so myself:

    6700K @ Stock, Single Core= 180, Multi= 912
    6700K @ 4.7, Single Core= 199, Multi= 1004

Any thoughts on what this could be?

    Cheers,

    Jim

P.S - I've created a Benchmarking Spreadsheet that might be pretty useful for people, you can find it here: doubleudoubleudoubleu.mediafire.com/view/4czn524z7c7mr9d (I cant upload it yet and not sure if I can post links yet)

Well, the US tends to get the better end of the stick, due to the fact that a lot of the companies making the products are based there, so shipping and tax costs get put on the price in other countries to cover the costs of importing/exporting them.

Canada is also a huge (spread out) country with a relatively small population. Hell, you have almost half the UK's population but over 40 times the land mass, things have got to travel a long way. Not to mention most of the major Canadian cities are on the coasts. It's a long way for stuff to travel, so prices are pretty certain to be higher.

Still, I like Canada. Went to Ontario a few years ago, Toronto is a very nice city (nicer than NYC if I may say so), though very hot when I went. It's all very different than here in the UK, you can drive from one end of the country to the other in a day, and London doesn't have you constantly looking up at massive buildings like a lot of US and Canadian cities.

The Canadian dollar is also very weak right now. As well us Canadians have always had higher prices.

Is that $350 USD and $550 CAD? If so, go for it. It's really not that bad of a difference compared to other places.

So, I'm still 14, but I have a PC already. However, my best friend has been playing on a crappy AIO that runs TF2 on medium settings on 30 fps. I don't know the exact specs, but an entry level gaming build would do better. I tried convincing her to upgrade to 64 bit because she is on 32 bit and I spent ages trying to get her to play Planetside 2 with me, but that game just removed 32 bit support several weeks ago. So, I'm trying to find a way to earn about $350 in my currency to get her an entry level gaming build. I still have school, so part time won't really do. I can do photoshop, make short movie sequences in UE4, and salvaging and building PCs. So, any ideas? It would be nice to finish it by christmas, but a whole year is also okay

Offer to wash cars, mow lawns, get a paper round, ask your parents if they will pay you to do extra chores and such. That's about all you can do at 14.

    Oh, it won't do that?

Well then, just make sure it's not near your hard drives or gpu for safety's sake and go nuts.

this is quite the surprise because it confirms Broadwell architecture is a failure; desktop models are limited to just two: i5-5675C and i7-5775C

there are speculations that the giant chipmaker may introduce its code-named “Purley” server platform based on “Skylake-EX” and “Skylake-EP” processors earlier than originally expected

also, there are rumors customers are canceling their Xeons orders in favor of waiting for Skylake: https://goparallel.sourceforge.net/16-petaflop-supercomputer-on-hold-to-wait-for-skylake-xeon/
