So I ran memtest and while it didn't give errors, it locked up and froze at 1 hour and 1 minute 71% though the first test. the same lock up I always have sometimes during boot or use. ill run it again

kofman13 got a reaction from Slayerking92 in The hack of popular streamer Dellor - how did it actually happen and how can people protect themselves from this particular type of attack?
many of you might not know of the streamer dellor but he is pretty popular and has recieved lots of hate and trolling over the years. Recently he was hacked. He apparently lost "everything" this virus infected all his computers on the network, "destroyed his smart lights and smart home devices" they got his bank passwords, electric company, dumped his robin hood account, he couldnt pay rent or pay bills, they took over his cellphone account. like literally destroyed his life.
here is a video covering it.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I6WDlpikHw&ab_channel=EsportsTalk
in his tweets and videos he is saying it was a "keylog trojan, a rat file" . what exactly does that mean. its not clear how he got hacked this bad. did someone trick him into running a virus inside a file? or was he just minding his business on his computer and someone just magically remotely hacked him because they knew his IP address? And side-note he says he had 2FA turned on for all acounts
what do you think? and how can people protect themselves besides not being popular enough to target?

EDIT: in one scene in the video he shows all his Hue hubs and smart lighting bulbs and smart switches and all the other smart home stuff saying they destroyed it all. how can a hacker destroy a smart hub or smart light bulb with a virus from his computer?

This tweet and others I see, and the fact that they went for his crypto currency in his Robin Hood account before anything else makes me think that it was some social engineering phishing scam involving some cryptocurrency or investment scheme and they got him to install something....

maybe. did you watch the video already that fast? lol. ALso he says in one of the twitter video clips in the video that "now i know about security and we are good to go" does that mean he might have not been careful and was clicking on random stuff?

kofman13 got a reaction from JabroniBaloney in recently getting worried about bluetooth headphones and EMF radiation
I was watching reviews about to get new Airpods Pro and i watched  This video and got worried. tests here video show that the EMF radiation from air pods pro is 3x the healthy limit, 100 times more than normal cheap bluetooth $20 buds... any one else worried about this? I then researched and most bluetooth headphones especially with active noise cancellation also have tons of EMF radiation. And people are using them for hours and hours a day and then i read about the effects on cells they did in tests with the emitted by bluetooth headphones and its really scary. If im using headphones only 1-2 hours a day what do you think the risks are?

kofman13 reacted to dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd in Question about custom rom safety/security
I second most of what Jade says.  LineageOS (link to official site) would be the first one I'd look at.  In fact it IS the first one I look at, I even verified that my S7 (non-edge) was supported before I bought it.
Many custom ROMs come without any of the Google apps, but those can be installed if you flash the right OpenGapps (link to official site) package after flashing the ROM.
For your S7 edge that package would be ARM64, Android 7.1 ... and then depend on your preference for the amount of Google integration.

If you would want to keep it Google-free, that's very much possible too.  There are alternatives to the Play Store, Maps etc.  Perhaps not with the exact same functionality and without the ease of all the Google account integration, but personally I don't mind that.
On my personal phone I've been Google-free for around 2 years.  My work phone (a 2016 Galaxy J3) still has a stock ROM with all the Google stuff, so I have plenty of opportunities to compare both options.

With regards to updates and patches, I can't speak for other ROMs but LineageOS normally gets updated every week.
My phone is currently running the build of August 16th (last Wednesday as I write this), which according to the "Settings -> About device -> Software info" menu has an "Android security patch level" of August 5th.  Last month the security patch level was July 5th and the month before that it was June 5th, so it looks like security patches are released by Google once every month and implemented in the next LineageOS update.  I assume that a critical vulnerability would be patched ASAP though.
Stock ROMS get patched way less often, my work phone for example has only received 2 security patches from Samsung so far this year (January 1st and July 1st).

Long-term support depends on the phone's popularity.  That's not a problem for the Galaxy S phones though, even the Galaxy S2 (released in May 2011) is still supported on LineageOS so I wouldn't worry too much about your S7 Edge not getting patches anymore.
That's the full Android 7.1 too on the S2, Samsung dropped support for that phone back in 2012 at Android 4.1.2.  So you get the latest features as well as security.

As for root, installing a custom ROM doesn't mean you need to enable root.  My S7 is doing just fine without it.  I wouldn't bother with root unless you for some reason really want/need an app that needs root access to work.

If low latency is important you're pretty screwed. You should be able to game OK on a decent quality WiFi NIC but from time to time you may experience lag. Cannot be helped.
