I guess that it's a stack connector, the same type that you will find on network switches that can be connected together. You probably won't find any adapter for this one. I mean, a lot of the server stuff is proprietary and not designed for any home use. Those servers are optimized to work in the given configuration.

huh... what a weird combination of RAM modules.

But hey! Whatever works. If I were you, and the laptop was in perfect working order, I'd pick up another 8GB module and stow the 2GB one.

Lolucoca reacted to iamdarkyoshi in How to Solder Tiny components?
Get a flux pen. Put some flux on the board. Tin your soldering iron. Hold the component in place with tweezers. Then touch the tinned tip to the solder pad on the board and the solder will flow onto the cap.

i can't stress this enough, YOU NEED FLUX. I use electrolube flux. One pen has lasted me over 3 years and its still got plenty in it

So in this video, Linus revived a 780Ti using an oven. While this technique DOES work, it is NOT a permanent repair.

I have discussed this topic on the EEVBlog Forums, and here are some quotes:

The issue with home "reflows" is that there is no flux present, and any of us that have tried to solder without flux find ourselves pulling our hair out...

I would ONLY use GPUs "fixed" with this method as spares at home in maybe a HTPC or something, NEVER on a rendering server or anything that NEEDS to be running reliably, and NEVER sell it! I have sold my 270x I "repaired" and I told the guy that if it fails within a year, I will either repair it or replace it at no cost.

    Needless to say, it died.

So if you guys are going to attempt this, just be aware that it is a TEMPORARY repair. Keep in mind this is NOT the only issue GPUs can have. You could have a blown mosfet in the VRMs, corrupt BIOS, etc.

Also, @LinusTech can I take a stab at repairing your SSD and the GPU from the WAN show PC?

that'd come in handy indeed, sadly my parents think i'm just making shit up and will get scammed online...

how does one tell their parents that theres a difference in mental capacity between a 12 year old and a 21 year old?
last month i sent one text message, to canada, as a shortcut to fix some BS. the international fees were less than the cost of a text message on my rpovider, they still wanted to know every fken little detail to avoid me doing stupid stuff while my dad just got his bank data stolen and thinks its normal...

Here is some bad news about Btrfs and their raid code for types 5/6. Unfortunately, this is what I believe Linus and his team use on all of their unRAID servers. It also makes me question whether or not this could have been the reason for their catastrophic data loss from before.

I really think they would have been better off with a file system more time hardened like ext4, but it's their call.

EDIT* I guess unRAID does not use RAID5/6 with their system, so this shouldn't affect LMG after all

It's pretty old, but you can certainly play some DOS gaems on it. The GPU is an S3 GPU which was pretty common back in the day. Just remember, this thing can only handle a certain amount of storage (HDD storage). It might only use 2GB.
