Only thing that I'd change is that NEX PSU. And the mobo to an h170 if he doesn't get a K series CPU in the future.

I had that same problem. Turned out one of my ram modules was pushing up daisies. Try taking out one ram module and see if the bios still registers it.
If it's the ram, you'll see that since it won't show up in the bios. You can always try reseating them. While you're at it, clear your cmos, that helped for me ones.

Will work provided it's a decent Cooler Master unit. What's the model name?

Is $660 the budget for the upgrade? If so, a nice liquid cooler and a GTX 980 or a decent cooler (Hyper 212 EVO) and a GTX 980 Ti would be your best bet. Nice system, btw.

I enjoy having 16. Mainly because I know I'll probably never use it all. But mostly because having a full four sticks just looks better than two.
