FM2+ socket is "dead" as in there will be no better CPU then the 860K. At least for 1150 you have i5 and i7. And yes as games become more CPU demanding if OP is playing mostly AAA titles then upgrading to an i5 will be of benefit in the next few years.

That video is more overused than a south american prostitute. The Pentium although it beats out the athlon in most games has a feature which is missing. It doesn't have 4 threads. You can't start newer games on the pentium as they are fazing out dual core processors. The witcher 3 is probably going to do the same. And the i3 (and athlon) is better than the pentium in every single way because of this reason.
The i3 as i said is the best of both worlds. It has 4 threads and has the single threaded performance of Intel cpus, which means that it will start and play newer games while running older games flawlessly.

If you haven't noticed, nobody is linking that video any more. Any video that only shows average and/or maximum frame rate should NOT be used to compare the overclocked G3258 against other CPUs, because what they don't show you is the minimum frame rates and the stuttering which makes many newer AAA titles very annoying to play. Many people on this forum are now noticing these stuttering issues after upgrading their G3258's to i3/i5/i7 chips. Although 860K doesn't have as good of an upgrade path which makes it a worse "futureproof" contender then the i3, it still has MUCH less stuttering issues and lower frame times then the G3258.

i3 is going to be the best of both worlds. Its going to have the single threaded performance of an overclocked pentium while its going to have 4 threads ( like the 860k). This means that newer games which aren't starting on the pentium will start on the i3.
I3 vs 860k is still going to be the same story. The i3 is better than the 860k in gaming for sure.
    Benchmarks of 860k vs i3 :

Also to top it off in the future you can upgrade the i3 to an i7 which is absolutely insane.
i3 is the best choice without a doubt.

Pardon the rudeness, but I'll have to oppose you here...

We're talking a low budget rig here... now, considering the budget of OP, how likely would he upgrade to say, an i5 or an i7 over getting a better GPU or more RAM in the next 3-4 years?

So you say the FM2+ socket is dead, isn't the 1150 on it's final 2 generations too?

I strongly suggest going i3 over G3258 but if OP is confident about overclocking, then 860K all the way... More multithreaded games are coming, and unless OP wishes only to play the older games, that's when the G3258 comes into play...

I'm only laying out the options here though...

As for OP, try to squeeze as  much cash into getting a good graphics card as you can without compromising too much on the CPU side...

They work on Mac but there is no driver, meaning you won't get the virtual surround or EQ options.
