  1. This question is a very philosophical one, as it questions the most fundamental part of our human existence. Now, people have an innate desire to worship or believe in a transcendent deity or spirituality of some kind. I mean, every ancient culture had some kind of religion, mostly polytheistic deities like Osiris, Zeus, Set, etc. However, what makes the Christian God, the Muslim God, or the Jewish God (they all worship the same one, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, with differences like the Holy Trinity) differed from those gods? There is only one. Well, the Christian God (I am a Catholic) is not just an item in the universe. He doesn't need us to worship Him to exist. I personally like Aquinas's definition of God: the non-contingent foundation from which all continent things rise. God cannot be proven on merely empirical grounds because He specifically created things that can be empirically verified. That is just a category error in questions God's existence. The universe cannot have existed forever because everything inside the universe is contingent and it is finite and is dependent on the Big Bang. Now, let's go one step further, what caused the Big Bang? If gravity is a main perpetrator, then what created gravity? There has to be something that is able to bring gravity and the universe ex nihilo, or else we have an infinite regress problem, or the phrase, "it just happened."

All Tesla Vehicles Being Produced Now Have Full Self-Driving Hardware

Self-driving vehicles will play a crucial role in improving transportation safety and accelerating the world’s transition to a sustainable future. Full autonomy will enable a Tesla to be substantially safer than a human driver, lower the financial cost of transportation for those who own a car and provide low-cost on-demand mobility for those who do not.

We are excited to announce that, as of today, all Tesla vehicles produced in our factory – including Model 3 – will have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver. Eight surround cameras provide 360 degree visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. Twelve updated ultrasonic sensors complement this vision, allowing for detection of both hard and soft objects at nearly twice the distance of the prior system. A forward-facing radar with enhanced processing provides additional data about the world on a redundant wavelength, capable of seeing through heavy rain, fog, dust and even the car ahead.

To make sense of all of this data, a new onboard computer with more than 40 times the computing power of the previous generation runs the new Tesla-developed neural net for vision, sonar and radar processing software. Together, this system provides a view of the world that a driver alone cannot access, seeing in every direction simultaneously and on wavelengths that go far beyond the human senses.

Model S and Model X vehicles with this new hardware are already in production, and customers can purchase one today: https://www.tesla.com/autopilot

Before activating the features enabled by the new hardware, we will further calibrate the system using millions of miles of real-world driving to ensure significant improvements to safety and convenience. While this is occurring, Teslas with new hardware will temporarily lack certain features currently available on Teslas with first-generation Autopilot hardware, including some standard safety features such as automatic emergency breaking, collision warning, lane holding and active cruise control. As these features are robustly validated we will enable them over-the-air, together with a rapidly expanding set of entirely new features. As always, our over-the-air software updates will keep customers at the forefront of technology and continue to make every Tesla, including those equipped with first-generation Autopilot and earlier cars, more capable over time.

Cool. While I'm not really a fan of full autonomous driving, this is a major technological step. Most of the auto industry is worried. :P

  3. OK, despite it being an tiny tiny GPU, GP107 is one of the most interesting things Nvidia has done in a while. Why? Nvidia didn't go with TSMC 16nm and instead went for 14nm. Is this Nvidia telling everyone AMD has a better process? I have no clue.

Leaked photos showcase the full PCB of one of the Chinese branded GTX 1050 Ti. The PCB is equipped with a single 6-pin power connector, although this is optional and was added just to increase overclocking headroom. Meanwhile, the power is distributed across 3+1 phases as seen on the photo. The GPU is slightly smaller than GP106. I think there’s just enough room to fit 6 GPCs (Graphics Processing Clusters), so just like it was suggested by earlier leaks.

The sticker placed on the other side of the PCB confirmed that GTX 1050 Ti indeed features 4GB GDDR5 memory. The launch of GTX 1050 Ti is should take place in about two weeks, so we expect to learn more about this new family of GTX products in the coming days.

Interesting. I had a feeling they were going with a cut down GP106, but Nvidia this time decided to make an entirely new GPU. Let's hope they don't overprice it like all the other ones.

Edit: Sorry, forgot the link :S

  5. Why does every big conglomerate do this? Oh yeah, they worship the Almighty Dollar. This reminds me strangely of this article:

    http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/2016/09/15/michigan-denies-tesla-dealership-license/90427216/

The government in my home state, Michigan, has been blocking Tesla from opening up a store here. Why? Well they give their "reason," but if you really read between the lines it's the Big Three bribing the politicians in Michigan. They fear Tesla, and ISPs fear cheap gigabit internet.
