System

  1. I just bought a new (used) laptop that came with Ubuntu 16.04LTS pre-installed. I tried to update the system and I'm getting this error: "dpkg: error processing package libexiv2-14:amd64 (--configure): package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration" Anyone let me know how to fix this?
  2. I'm interested in installing my GPU with a riser card to change up the aesthetics of my build. I have a Corsair 400c case with nothing else installed in the PCIe slots on the motherboard. I'm just wondering how exactly this would work in a case like this. Won't the output cables in the back be inaccessible because it won't match up with the slot covers? Also, how does this not cause the card to fall down under the weight of the heatpipes etc.? Anyone have experience doing this who could provide me with some explanation of how this works?
  3. I finally found a decent deal on a Corsair RGB keyboard to upgrade my cheaper one and got a beautiful Tek Syndicate desk mat (am I disqualified now) to go along with it. All I need now is to upgrade my cheap-AF mouse to complete my gaming setup.
  4. Yeah, I looked up the recall and didn't come up with any results.
  5. So I took all of the other screws out, and pulled on the battery and it came out... aparently the hole the screw was screwed into broke off whatever it was attached to. So it's still there, but not doing aything. At least it's not in my way. I'll try to bring it into an apple store this week too and see if I cn get a free MacBook out of them
  6. Does it matter that it's not under warranty anymore?
  7. I found a few sources that state that 16GB is confirmed to work with OSX 1.7.5 or later. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.4-white-13-polycarbonate-unibody-mid-2010-specs.html *edit: 16 not 18GB*
  8. We can't afford to replace it atm, so some minor upgrades should keep it relevant for a while longer. I tried the torx screw, but there is jut nothing to grip onto anymore. I guess I will have to try and drill it out. It's a 2010 Macbook, A1342 (45048EZ3F5W). For what my wife uses it for, the main issue is that it only has 2gb of ram, and chrome slows the heck out of that now. I'm planning on giving her at least 8GB of RAM and a 240GB SSD to replace her harddrive. The most intensive thing she would use it for is photo/video editing, but she usually just uses my PC for that. This upgrade would at least make using photoshop possible, along with some light video editing if mine is busy or something.
  9. My wife's Macbook is old, the battery is finally craping out so for Xmas I'm planning on giving the whole thing a nice upgrade. First off I am trying to replace the battery, simple, right? Except for this screw which looks to have taken a beating and is completely irremovable. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this sucker out? It is basically just a big dent on top right now.
  10. I've got to say that the Feenix Aria Headset is my favourite! That Japanese Pine just looks really darn pretty.
  11. I thought that since it supports the 290x there might be a chance it would fit a 390x, even if it didn't say it was officially supported.
  12. I have an R9 390X from XFX and the card gets hot, and when it does the fans get loud. It is a lot louder than the MSI GTX 960 I had previously and I want to get it to run quieter, and cooler. I found the Kraken G10, which looks like a promising solution so I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not it would be compatible? It is supposed to work with the 290X, but will it still work with a 390X, non-reference card? Otherwise, would Corsair's version of this work?
  13. I realize now that the 6000mhz is just the base 1500 x4 because its gddr5... lowering the mem clock to 1500 and setting the core to 1140 got me 70fps average. Any need to keep pushing it? It's almost at a 10% overclock already. Is it safe to keep going?
  14. I'm using MSI Afterburner to overclock my GPU (first time overclocking). Base: Core 1050Mhz Mem 1500Mhz (online on the XFX site it says 6000Mhz... not sure what that's all about). I managed to get the Core to 1130Mhz so far and it has been stable running Furmark and Valley benchmarks. I left the Memory clock at 1500Mhz and these were my results: At 1080p Furmark: 69FPS (72max/69min) Valley: 64.4 FPS (223.5max/31.8min) Then I upped the memory clock and my Furmark score dropped to 39FPS(44max/39min). What's the deal?
  15. Cool thanks guys. I thought so, but someone told me I should get a multi-channel set if I was upgrading. Good to know I can get whatever I like
