  1. You're right they don't have enough memory. These machines have 4GB of memory, and 3.7 is used just from loading into the desktop.
  2. A lot actually. I'm at the headquarters, and there is a fair amount of spreadsheet processing and forecasting. It struggles even loading webpages with 150Mbps downloads and 100Mbps uploads.
  3. It's a Intel i3 7310T, there is 1 core 2 threads lol. The machines are the Optiplex 3050 I believe, I'm not at work so I'd have to check again. They are god awful slow lol.
  4. We do not have a sysadmin. Pretty much there is myself, my supervisor and my manager, and no one has that title. Which was a concern of mine as well.
  5. So I work as a Desktop Support Tech for a small financial company, our computer systems are SLOW... Most of us are running on thin clients, that have a dual core processor, and a 500GB old mechanical HDD, with just 4GB of RAM. We have to log on to the system, then open a remote connection to do actual work from a centralized server. I'm in the process of writing a change proposal for at a minimum upgrading to SSDs, I'd like to do both the RAM up to 8GB, but the RAM is easy for me. We have over 70 PCs over a MAN network with 7 branches across the city. How would I go about cloning all of those drives to SSDs and replacing them? Would I back them up to the server and redeploy them some way? If not what would be my solution for a mass cloning? The only other thing I could think of, would be to come in after hours and do 1 floor per day just going computer to computer cloning and replacing. Anyway, any help you guys can send my way would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  6. I figured they would be, but I was gonna build a full on rig if u know what I mean lol. I was going to go 10700K, then I was thinking, well its not doing heavy lifting just serving up files, do I actually need the power? Because I've only every build workstations, I wasn't sure what the power process would be to do a server build. With RAID 6, do you think it's best to run dual parity?
  7. Man, I was making a big fuss over this and about to spend $1500 lol. This will be a pretty cheap system. Thanks a lot. I might go back and try to find some older equipment to make this server. Thanks a lot.
  8. Okay guys, myself, my girlfriend and my son are creating a Production Studio. We will be handling 24bit 48,000hz audio, 4K video (exported HEVC H.265, because it's the only way I know to publish 120FPS video, and lots of RAW photography files. Our main rigs each have 2TB NVMe SSDs, 3070GPUs, Intel 10700K processors & 32GB 3600MHz RAM. The server does not have to do any of the video rendering, just mainly as a file transfer solution, until we can afford to build a server with as many GPUs and a powerful enough CPU to be able to run everything from a single server. What I would like to know from you guys is, what would be the best storage setup for the server? What type of RAID would you use? What would be your backup solution (we currently use BackBlaze as our cloud solution)? We need about 20TB (at least 16TB to store all of our work (so I know a lot of the budget will be spent on storage alone)). How many processing cores would be need just to move files back and forth between the server and 3 computers (currently, with plans to expand to 5)? How much RAM to support the processor? Basically if you have any build ideas, send them my way. My budget is $1,700.
  9. Would you happen to have a link to the software? The one I found won't allow me to open the website.
  10. Thanks. I'm going to look into this right now lol.
  11. Really? I've never even heard of this witchcraft lol. I'm going to check it out. Thanks. Since I'm sure I'll be splitting bandwidth, could I say run some GTA5 while she's on FortNite?
  12. I want to try Linus' 2 Gamers 1 PC build: 2 Gaming Rigs, 1 Tower - Virtualized Gaming Build Log Is it possible to do this with my current computer, without losing my data? My daughter is getting into gaming, and instead of building her a full system, I'd rather just add on to mine. She sits directly on the opposite side of my office, so USB extensions and HDMI can literally be routed through a curtain lol. She's 10 and her games aren't really graphically demanding, and I feel like this would be a cheaper solution than me building her a PC of her own. Thanks in Advance. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, CoD Modern Warfare, NBA2K21, GTA5 Current Setup: Ryzen 5 3600, ASUS B350 Strix F-Gaming, G.Skill 32GB 3600MHz, 1x500GB Seagate FireCuda M.2, 2x2TB Seagate FireCuda 5400RPM HDDs (Raid 0), 1x8TB Seagate Barracuda Compute 7200RPM, EVGA BQ 650W Power Supply, Corsair H50 Water Cooling Kit, NZXT H500 Parts I Plan on Purchasing: Additional 8TB Seagate Barracuda Compute 7200RPM (to add parity), 2x8TB Seagate IronWolf 7200RPM HDD (upgrade for the 2x2TB Seagate HDDs [switching to raid 1]) , 1x1TB Seagate FireCuda 520 M.2 (upgrade), EVGA GTX 1650, Corsair 750D (I don't think this is necessary, but I know I can't get 3 GPUs in my current case), & EVGA 850W PSU.
  13. I'm sure that it ? They at least have done so good with the CPUs. But come on now. It hurts worse when you put out a product that is (when working) as good as this is, only to follow up with crappy drivers that force people to go to another company. That hurts so bad. I'm hoping they can fix, it... But until them I'm going team green. Maybe pet some twin 2060s like @ShrimpBrime lol
  14. I bought the 5600 XT about 2 weeks ago and it has done nothing but give me a headache. From black screens, to reboots, to system lockups... I can't watch 4K content. I can't play any of my games without the AMD drivers locking up. They released I believe it's Adrenaline 20.2.2, and I will say, all day yesterday I didn't get one single crash. Today everything crashes. Things that I have noticed for those having the same issues as I have, turn off anything outside of your games that may use any of your GPU while you're in game. Disable Xbox Game Bar, Radeon Overlay, Origin Overlay, and go to task manager and end the Radeon Software task. This will buy you about an hour or so of uninterrupted gaming, but that's about it. As for me, I will be returning this card to the store, and going to Nvidia. I will be purchasing the ASUS 2060 Super 8GB Strix I so badly want to support AMD, but this is ridiculous. I shelled out over $300 for this card and it doesn't work. Further more owners of the 5700 XT have been suffering with these issues for what 7 or 8 months now? This is truly unacceptable.
  15. Wow that's pretty fast. Yeah I have a cache on my personal PC. I have 2x4TB 7200 drives, that cache to a 250GB Intel SSD. But I never knew if I should turn of caching on the HDDs, and just let it be handled completely by the SSD. But I will definitely try it with the Thunderbolt 3 external. That also seems much more cost effective.
  16. The OS she is running is Mac OS. Main storage will be off of a NAS running FreeNAS. She uses her Adobe programs quite a bit, and she has quite a few plugins, and presets. Might I add she is running a laptop, and with apple you can't just upgrade your drive (I hate apple lol). So I will pretty much be making the NAS just so she has more storage space for those large files.
  17. Hello guys, I am not new to PC building, but I am new to creating cache drives. I was wondering, for drives that I wouldn't be using as cache drives, would I need to turn off caching? So if I had 2 hard drives that would serve as just storage, and an SSD I wanted to use for cache, do I need to disable caching on the storage drives? Also what is a good rule of thumb for cache drive size? My girlfriend will be using lots of 4K footage and has about 16TB of storage space she will be using, so what would be a good size cache per TB?
  18. That's exactly what I said. I guess, he doesn't want to hear this from someone younger than him and knows his job better than he does lol.
  19. I'm not the IT guy, I'm just an employee trying to get into the IT field lol. This was my suggestion, and I told the IT guy about this who then said it would cost them $3000 to implement hyper-v which at that point would cost us a new scanner. So as a cheaper alternative I suggested VMware and he seemed to be lost lol.
  20. I am at work. We currently are using 2 desktops for a job, and one of the desktops is just taking up space. One is used for an old fiche machine, which is not compatible with our Windows 10 computers, but is compatible with our Windows 7 computers. My question is, could I just use VMware to install Windows 7 on the Windows 10 PC to allow us to get rid of the old computer?
  21. Which power supplies would you recommend?
  22. If I needed to upgrade I wouldn't mind swapping out for the 32GB 4x4 kit.
  23. Okay so I came up with a new parts list, tell me what you think? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6rbgGX
  24. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and grab a 6-core. Right now I'm only editing in 1080p, but I know for sure I'm upgrading my camera equipment next year so I may be doing 2-4K.
