I own a GPD Win 2 and a GPD Max, as well as a good gaming desktop. They all have their uses. I can't take my desktop on holiday or on the train, plus thesedays wfh 10-12 hours a day, i don't really want to sit infront of my desktop when I'm done working. If my wife is watching Below Deck AGAIN i can at least sit next to her with a handheld and pretend i'm interested 🙂

But 600 quid you have to be able to afford spending that on essentially a "toy" when you could also get a switch lite for 170, and that would be fine for a similar purpose.

Has there been a better CPU in PC history? I shelled out £270 or so I think for it 6 years ago and it’s still running strong now, but it’s finally time for an upgrade. I don’t remember ever having a PC part for that long and it still being pretty good.

Currently deciding between a 5600X and a 5800X, assuming I can get one in the UK, it’s £290 vs £430. I only really game and watch YouTube so I know the 5600X would be fine, but you know, new shiny.

I bought an ASUS TUF x570 plus already, just need to figure out how to flash the bios without a CPU. May have to buy an 3000G and sell it on eBay.

And worry not, the 4790k isn’t going to the eBay scrapyard, I’ll move it to my office PC so I still have a decent machine when the kids are on the main one 🙂

Heh I’m not a console gamer at all, but with the kids now my PC time is limited and with this i can play on the train to and from work every day and get my gaming fix. I had a 3DS too which I loved but this is a whole different ballgame.

So all the bends were done!

Not completely to my liking if I'm honest, I got better as I kept practicing but I ran out of tubing and I'm still dubious about the size of the silicone insert I have.

However im satisfied with it, especially as I ran out of tubing (2m) and I will do them again in 6 months when I clean the loop.

I’ve mainly been using this for PES 2018 and it runs at 60fps on 1080p fine.

Haven’t really played anything else yet, bought a Switch earlier this year and ploughing through Zelda!

i found a 1050ti second hand for £100 so it was a no brainer for me vs the 1060 in the UK.

    Don't get a 7600K! Get a Ryzen 5 1600 with a B350 board and 3000MHz RAM, it's much better

I meant the non X, because it comes with a good stock cooler that you can use to overclock it to 3.8-3.9GHz.  I would recommend an ASUS or an AsRock board, AFAIK Gigabyte boards aren't very good. @dave_k
The X is clocked slightly higher and doesn't come with a cooler.

He did mean the 1600. The X stands for "Extended Frequency Range" which all Ryzen CPUs have but those have "more". It does a automatic overclock based on cooling, but its absolutely not worth it, just like intel optane isn't worth it.

Right now the R5's beat the i5's in value because you can get more cores for less and performance wise they are pretty close, which is why he is suggesting that as the cores will help with productivity based programs, like rendering video and streaming.

Ryzen is ram hungry so faster ram is a must for the 3000mhz

Also if he moaning about the k because he doesn't plan on overclocking, that is fine. But someday he may want to overlcock it and since Ryzen CPU"s are all unlocked, he doesn't have to pay extra for the feature.

Kaby i5s are a dead end. They're being rebranded into i3s if information so far is to be confirmed. Besides, the 1600(X) already outperform the current i5s in games because modern games use 8 threads/cores pretty damn well and the extra clockspeed on i5s is not enough. This is very evident by the fact that i5s are bottlenecking higher end cards (1070/1080) at 1080p whereas the R5 1600(X) are not having trouble keeping up with those GPUs.
Take it this way, if you buy an i5 now, it's going to be slightly weaker than next gen's quad-core i3s. If you buy a R5 1600(X) now, you're going to have a CPU equivalent to next gen's i5s. (next gen i5s are moving to 6 cores with lower clockspeeds)

when go for 4k, its become more of gpu work. at this moment when intel's 8th gen is releasing in a week, its such a waste to go for 7th gen specially 7600k, because I3 8350k will have 4ghz unlocked processor costing 80-90$ less. if cant wait, then go with Ryzen 1600, that would better purchase & its very easy to overclock ryzen. but I strongly suggest to wait a week or so & get intel 8th gen cpu. take a peek of the line up & prices https://newsroom.intel.com/newsroom/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2017/09/8th-gen-intel-core-overview.pdf

My only advice is to make sure your silicon insert is the right size. The ek 12mm one is 11.7mm I believe and worked best with the tubes that I had.

Other er ones I came across were 11.4mm ish and whilst that sounds like no difference, I was getting bends that weren't as good.

Thanks folks. That's pretty much what I've decided, the only question is which port of the front rad I'll use to connect to the res or cpu.

Will start to put things together tonight and attempt some tube bending!

Don't even need to spend money on it, just use some zip ties to manage some of the cables and it'll look a whole lot cleaner!
