I removed my CPU OC and RAM OC. Same issue. Its only one the 1080s. Im gaming just fine with one of them. I did test my PSU and it looks good. I plugged my other 1080 into a separate PC and same issue occurs.

Good Points. I guess we will have to see what they can push out of Zen+. Piledriver was a pretty bad architecture.   The only thing it was decent for was a budget gaming/workstation. Ryzen has alot more potential. I got my 1800x is a bit of an impulse buy. I saw it performed like an I5 in gaming but offered 6950k levels of performance in multi threaded workloads for a really solid price.

I think for him the Ryzen 1600 will be solid for the next 3-5 years.  Though I would personally go with an I5-8400 if all I did was game.

Then maybe this build would be the "best of both worlds"?

I can agree. I game on a 3440x1440 Acer Predator and to me its incredible. It looks and plays incredible. I think going with the Ryzen 1600 will be fine for him. Hes an AMD Fanboy and  think this will make him feel better. Though I personally view brand loyalty is stupid as hell.

I like the rig you posted and Im thinking it would be quite better. While I love Ultrawide, I think a Gysnc monitor would be better.

I know what you are saying. I am not trying to brag at all but I make quite a bit over 6 figures. I do save and would not do it if I could not afford it. I dont pay for his college or anything. He has loans and is working part time. He probably would have bought a used 970 or 1060. But I am in a position to help him.

A single ultrawide will always get my vote, for me it is the exact same deal as SLI'ing, it is not that having 2 is bad but having 1 single superior one will always be better besides it does occupy less space to get a single ultrawide: my desk would not fit 2 monitors side by side optimally:
My bedroom as is right now.

please don' start thing again with a shitty "console killer" with low-quality parts, the gtx 1060 comes nowhere near 6tflops. let people enjoy whatever they want, no one cares which is "better", it's all subjective anyway.

cant we all just understand the fact that microsoft have actually come out with a good value console for once? The Xbox One X is solid value for what you are paying.

So sick of this Console vs PC bullshit... No one wants a PC that's spec equivalent to a console, they want the console for what it is: A compact device that they can easily set up and play with their online/couch buddies.

You didn't factor in ipc, clock speeds, pcie lanes, overclocking, l2 cache, l1 cache, l3 cache, optimizations, memory channels, memory overclocking, CCX crap, etc.

Back on topic, I think it's going to boil down to what's more important to you.  If max performance at any cost is your thing, Intel is there to take your money.  If value is important, Ryzen remains the answer.

I dont think you will be necessarily downgrading depending on what your monitor is. Are you gaming at 1080p at 144hz? If not Ryzen makes a ton of sense. Yes, GPUs will catch up and eventually even higher resolutions will push CPUs to be the bottleneck. However, by then DX12 and Vulcan are showing that the future is more cores dependent. Also, for everything else that Ryzen does slightly worse in gaming does better in everything else than say a I7-7700k.

Lol. I would upgrade your monitors! You have a great CPU still. Unless you are into heavy production.   Get an awesome 3440x1440p monitor at 60hz or a 1440p 144hz monitor.

Its an excellent build. Fury performs better than the RX 580 and a 1600 is a great CPU.

I'm getting itchy waiting for my AM4 bracket from Cryorig.  Not their fault it took forever, autofill messed up my address on their form and I missed the email from support, lol.

I know I could have saved like $40 or something if I'd gotten a 1600 and overclocked it, but it wasn't like the price difference between a 1700 and an 1800x, and a 1600X has all the single-thread of the 1800X for half the price, and I basically won't need to screw with it aside from making my ram happy.

I turned a $160 RX 470 into a Fury Nitro thanks to the mining craze, and after shipping/ebay fees still had enough for a couple large cold brew iced coffees.

Looking at benchmarks, I should be able to keep most games comfortably inside the freesync range on my monitor at 4k/high-ultra settings, so I can't complain there.

Oh for sure, totally see the appeal of that.  My new build is pretty much me dipping my toes into the high-end to see what it's like to have nice new things.

SoloDolo got a reaction from maartendc in Whats coming after 1080 ti?
AMD is not pushing  Nivdia to do anything right now. At the mid range they are very competitive and they own the enthusiast class market for over a year now. It reminds me when AMD launched the Radeon 5000 series and Nvidia waited six months to drop the GTX 400 series cards. Though right now its worse for AMD as its been over a year and well be nearly 2 years before Vega actually launches.

Anyways, the 1080 Ti will be the king of 2017. Volta will come Q1-Q2 2018. The 1170 will perform 10% better than the 1080 Ti and the 1180 will be a marginal 20% better than the 1170/1080 Ti. Then in 2019 the 1180 Ti will come out.

Vega will probably be at best 1080 Ti levels. If they can release it in August they will be alright. However, if the high end Vega is weaker than the 1080 Ti and more around the 1080 then it will be another Fury X for AMD, unless it is priced at $350 range which is not likely as HBM2 Memory costs a ton.

The best overall CPU for pretty much everything is the R5 1600. It can game around I5 levels and perform 6850k levels in multi threaded workloads. Its a really excellent value.
