  1. yes, I will also be replacing one of the smaller SSD and the old HDD to larger ones, but I still would like to know If i can add another M.2 into my machine or if it will not function at all.
  2. M.2 drive is 1TB 1x SSD = 1Tb 2x SSD = 500GB 1x HDD = 1TB
  3. I've currently got my boot drive on my main M.2 drive and an additional 4 x SATA SSD/HDD filling up all my usable sata slots on the Mobo. I've noticed that my Mobo also has an additional smaller M.2 (2280) slot (says on website "NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA Mode (from Chipset)" Can I still add a 2280 M.2 drive in addition to all other drives? or have i maxed out my capacity? I've got this Mobo (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550M-AORUS-PRO-P-rev-10#kf) and the AMD 5600x a 3070 is plugged into the main PCIE lane. any help is appreciated.
  4. Hello there, I'm seeing if it's at all possible to connect two displays i already own to my work laptop that has a single HDMI port and multiple USB3.1 type -c with thunderbolt support. Laptop: HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebook https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06680927 Monitors: ROG SWIFT PG349Q https://rog.asus.com/au/monitors/32-to-34-inches/rog-swift-pg349q-model/spec/ has 1 display port and 1 HDMI ASUS VE248H https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=16558&cPath=1087 has 1 HDMI and 1 DVI port open to upgrading secondary 24in monitor if it means i can have both monitors connected to my main PC and work laptop at same time. Just trying to see what my options are any help is appreciated.
  5. I did not know the MoCA option at all, thanks for that, i do have optical cables in each bedrooms already routed so that might be my best solution
  6. My cable internet inlet in my unit is in the living room and it is very difficult to route a ethernet cable to the office without either spending lots to have it within the walls or looking very ugly across the ceiling and walls. I was thinking of connecting my modem to one of these mesh wifi routers, leaving one in the living room and using the new 6 ghz backhaul to connect the second router in the office about 15m away and then connecting my pc to directly to the second router via ethernet cable. https://www.amazon.com/Deco-Mesh-Wifi-6E-Router/dp/B09VW5JHPH reduces the need to buy a pcie wifi card to install in a slot i don't even have room for, and probably the closest I'm going to get in terms of keeping latency low without a physical cable from router to PC. can this work? or is there a more efficient way to get minimal latency while keeping cables clean?
  7. just tried it out, does this help at all? all i can think of is comparing these results with different ISP's and see if they take a different route that's quicker # Country Town Lat Lon IP Hostname Latency (ms) DNS Lookup (ms) Distance to previous node (km) 1 Australia (Unknown) ---------- ------------- --------------- melndlns2.wireline.com.au 10 1553 0 2 Australia (Unknown) ---------- ------------- --------------- te1-1-6.melndcore1.wireline.com.au 9 27 0 3 Australia Brisbane -27.4679 153.0325 220.101.116.137 (None) 10 201 1155 4 * * -27.4679 153.0325 * * 0 0 0 5 * * -27.4679 153.0325 * * 0 0 0 6 Australia Brisbane -27.4679 153.0325 59.154.18.22 te0-1-0-0.22btig12.optus.net.au 22 1781 0 7 Singapore (Unknown) 1.3673 103.8014 203.208.150.189 (None) 136 1636 6164 8 Singapore (Unknown) 1.3673 103.8014 203.208.178.198 (None) 140 171 0 9 * * 1.3673 103.8014 * * 0 0 0 10 * * 1.3673 103.8014 * * 0 0 0 11 China (Unknown) 34.7732 113.722 116.251.83.226 (None) 240 205 3858 12 * * 34.7732 113.722 * * 0 0 0 13 * * 34.7732 113.722 * * 0 0 0 14 Japan Tokyo 35.6893 139.6899 47.91.24.239 (None) 235 270 2356
  8. i was afraid that might be the case. i guess i'll try out the better rated ISP's in my area and see if it makes and noticeable difference. thanks for the info
  9. thanks for these steps, gave it a try just now and it resulted in one less ping but worse gaming latency. unless im supposed to try many different combinations for the DNS server?
  10. I just recently moved house from an apartment in the city to a unit in a suburb 30min away from the city in Australia. Connected my PC to the router via ethernet which goes into the NBN box. my ping on speed test doesn't seem bad but my in game latency has spiked up from what i used to have... I used to get a ping of about 5 with 100Mbps Download and the in game latency was approx 120ms. Now my ping is at 9 ms with 200+ Mbps download but in the game I've got approx 230ms What i really don't understand is when i use usb tethering from my phone, i get a worse ping on speednet, but better game ping?? ping on speednet increases from 9 ->17 but in game decreases back down to a playable 150 What can i do to reduce my ping to these Asia servers? do i need to change ISP? don't think it's a router issue with the ethernet connected... i just can't imagine these "gaming" VPN doing much but do they actually work? any advice much appreciated
  11. so am i having a bandwidth issue or latency issue if i can't simultaneously watch and play on multiple devices at once? on the smart tv the video just stops and buffers so it sounds like a bandwidth issue but is that caused by router not being able to provide enough bandwidth to multiple devices? in that case, why did this problem not occur once when we were on the faster speed internet from the ISP? will start reading about the cpu/ram/software in these routers and see if i can find the difference in them. cheers.
  12. I've just moved to a 2 bed home and will be on the fastest available NBN plan (australia) in my area at 250mbps download. only reason being i'm currently on the 100mbps plan and have the internet dramatically slow down when i'm watching youtube + playing game and partner wants to do anything online, but when i was on a 6 months trial of 250 mbps this issue didn't exist so it must not be enough bandwidth (?) to go around It looks like the entry price for wifi 6 routers are $150AUD, like this model https://www.mwave.com.au/product/tplink-archer-ax20-ax1800-dualband-wifi-6-router-ac34683 and the next tier up is at aprox $250AUD with these sort of routers available https://www.mwave.com.au/product/tplink-archer-ax72-ax5400-dualband-gigabit-wifi-6-router-ac45505 my main question: is there any point in spending $100 more to get higher speed capable router when my max download is at 250mbps anyway? i could get an older wifi 5 router and still not reach the advertised wifi speeds? i don't see much of a difference in the two models other than the more expensive router being able to go 4800mbps in 5ghz. again, not sure if that even matters if my speed going into the router is capped at 250. my main computer that i play games and watch content is connected via ethernet cable, don't have space for a pcie wifi card so will likely stay this way for a while. if anyone can help me understand routers in general it's much appreciated, all i'm seeing are higher speeds and a router i bought 4 years ago (which i gave away) seems to not reach my available speed anyway so is there any point to spend more than the minimum.
  13. Thank you all some mixed answers but i'll just try back up the important apps individually to keep any macros for them and do a clean new install on a brand new ssd. seems to be the safest and potentially time saving option overall.
  14. I'm finally upgrading my computer from it's current 4690k to the new 5600x tonight/this weekend and i'm wondering how this will work with windows. ideally i don't want to try re-installing all of my applications as i fear some of them will lose the set up i've spent way too long optimizing. i was going to follow this random guy's steps in trying to retain windows without doing a fresh install, but is there any known issues especially going from intel to AMD? or should i just give up and do a fresh install, in which case i might as well buy the 980 pro nvme ssd and install the OS on there.
  15. upgrading from an intel 4690k platform to a new r5 5600x and b550 mobo set hopefully this weekend, and i need some help with windows 10 re-install i've found a few youtube video's and articles but not entirely sure if this is done right: - i've made a bios flashback for the b550 mobo on a usb - got another usb with win 10 install kit from microsoft website - i made a backup on a completely separate ssd that has the storage space (took 600gb) I was planning to only have the boot drive (the 250gb sata ssd i currently have the OS installed on) plugged in when i boot for the first time, and go through the prompts to clear everything on the ssd to re-install windows from scratch? is that the right step to do? does it need to be the same drive that the backup is stored to get every program back? also if i wanted to install a new nvme ssd and make that my OS drive would it be best to do that now or can i still do that later? many thanks
