Pretty much smashes anything you would want to so with it and could probs run almost any AAA game on high at 1440p with those dual 290s. Not sure about 4k though but as long as its not a AAA game it should be fine

I used to work from home and foot specific calls for Comcast cusomers. We were basically a step above their tier, so if there was something that Comcast couldn't solve (e.g. malware-related issues; over-the-phone network setups; software installs; etc) a customer would be sent our way. It cost money to talk to us and use our services, and some customers made it blatantly well-known how much they hated Comcast, but at the end of it all, we were usually able to come to a solution or at least have a course of action laid out.

Given the restrictions of that job and the awful reputation we'd have being associated with Comcast, it was surprising how effective we were. I left that job with something along the lines of a 98-99% customer satisfaction rating, which I'm quite proud of. It's never fun being the person who can't solve a problem or needs to ask someone to pay more money in certain circumstances, but with the right approach and copious servings of empathy, you can teach just about everyone that you really are on their side and want to help them. If they're calling in, they're already frustrated. Sometimes they just need to vent before they'll be willing to work with you. It was kind of fun to talk to dozens of people every day and solve so many unique problems.

Funnily enough, there were only two times where I had to terminate a call with a customer. One time was the day before Christmas Eve, and the other was the day after Christmas. I've since always joked that the holidays have a way of bringing out the worst in people...

Unfortunately, being so closely tied to Comcast, we still had to bend to their will. Comcast started requiring us to do things differently, which ended up tanking morale, profitability, success rate, customer satisfaction, and so on and so forth. I wound up quitting, and a few months shortly thereafter Comcast ditched the entire operation, resulting in massive layoffs. Around the time I left, I believe that there was an intentional drive from the folks up above to increase turnover before they announced to everyone that they no longer had a job. Sure enough, the layoff was something like a week after the holidays. I'm glad that I wasn't there at that time. Everything sounded incredibly scummy and shady.

Practically speaking, it's just voltage. Your mobo won't really affect max overclock. Too much voltage will hurt your chip.

And it's silicon, not silicone. They add silicone into fake boobs.

The chip itself (silicone lottery). Power delivery, the board, PSU and other components such as memory can affect it too.

2x these would put you in the 290/290x performance territory.
Problem being, waiting after game releases for crossfire profiles...

More powerful Single GPU's are worth it for that alone...IMO.
Sell your current 270 and put cash together for a 390 or used 290x.

I think some people measure performance in "years old" when they weren't around during that generation and so aren't familiar with it. Instead of actually *gasp* researching or just *double gasp* not commenting on something they don't know about (shocking philosophy, I know), they just say "oh that's old, must be crap" and then say it as if they know it as fact. Even on this forum there's a surprising amount of people who think Phenom II chips are a lot worse than they are simply because they were from before that person's time.
It's a shame so many people talk like an authority and give people advice even when they're not knowledgeable on the topic.

    1. The amount of voltage going into the chip
    2. The amount of voltage going into the CPU cores
    3. When you're overclocking other integrated components, such as the memory controller (not recommended)
    4. When you want to get a higher clock speed on your CPU (you'll almost always increase this, and usually only this)
    5. It depends on your cooling, what clocks you're aiming for, and just how well your CPU takes to higher clocks and voltages
    6. Somewhere between 1.3-1.4V. The lower the better.
    7. Unsure. I don't recommend modifying it at all.
    8. Don't aim for 5 GHz. But you'll be increasing both your core voltage and your multiplier. Nothing else should need to be changed.
    9. My 4770K achieved 4.3 GHz on 1.3V. My 5820K achieved 4.5 GHz on 1.35V.
    10. Overclocking Intel K-series processors is really easy, especially with adequate cooling! You may also want to disable Turbo Boost or ensure that the cores are all synchronised at the same clock. Turbo Boost can cause lower real-world clock speeds on many motherboards while all cores are active.

Oh, and check out AnandTech's 4790K overclocking!

That's definitely a reasonable starting salary for a programmer. Your extra technical skills are a huge bonus as well.

Like some of the others have suggested already, you should definitely hunt down an internship. Internships are fantastic ways of gaining valuable industry experience, and they can even be direct pathways to a full-time job offer after graduation if you really wow the employer.

Since you're into programming, poke around the open source community a bit. Create a GitHub account, if you don't have one already. It's one thing to be able to show an employer that you can do well in class, and another to show them that you know how to work with and maintain real-world software. Being able to talk about unique problems you've experienced and how you overcame them really helps you stand out from the crowd.

You chose an exciting field to study and work in. You may be amazed at how much demand there is for highly-skilled candidates.

I'm really happy that 60 FPS seems to be available across all of YouTube now, even at 4K and 1440p. Once you get accustomed to 60 FPS video, going back to 24/30 FPS is a bit jarring. Once you're used to higher framerates, it's way too easy to realise just how much stuttering there actually is while the camera pans through a scene.

Plus, watching 60 FPS gameplay just feels natural.
Funny, it's the opposite for me. When I'm watching 24 or 30 FPS footage with a shaky camera, it makes me a bit nauseous. When it's bumped up to 60 FPS, the shakiness is quite a bit smoother and the entire experience is far more palpable.

Frickin' USB headers in cheap cases.

And of course when the motherboard manufacturer is too lazy to label any of the headers on the board itself.

Or places a RAM slot so close to the PCI-E slot that it now becomes tetris to install anything.
