  1. I've been browsing for a few peripherals, namely charging stations/bricks.

    I'm in Australia:

When buying a product from a company based in a region outside your own, let's use Ugreen as an example which is a company that doesn't have AUS/Oceania as a region option. Will the power plug I'm sent be a US one, or is it standard to send the relivant plug from the region the order was placed from? My question is particularly aimed at products like wall chargers where the plug is actually a part of the product which leaves no option to swap out the power cable like you would do with a HUB/Dock.

Just picked up a 7000D to build in and I'm looking for some thoughts on air cooling in this case.. Early days parts list here (PCPP) if you're interested.

*FYI (Brown and green in the diagram is the NH-D15 cpu cooler).

More than likely going to use Noctua NF-A12x25s or their 140mm fans. I'll also mention that I plan to vertically mount the GPU as there's plenty of space to do it effectively here.

Some concerns I had with the above configs were voiced briefly by G.N in this video, basically he states that the fans toward the front will "steal" more of the cool intake air than they exhaust hot air emitted from the tower cooler etc. I'm considering leaving the top partially or fully unpopulated which aesthetically isn't ideal 😞  In my previous builds I've always had an AiO exhausting out the top, 2-3 intake in front and one exhaust in the back. This time I'd like to try the NH-D15 (black) which I think looks really slick in an all black build.

Again, still in the early planning stages so feel free info dump or suggest a completely different (AiO instead of tower for e.g).

The cooler performs fine at low wattages but once you throw a lot of power on it, the fans alone can't keep up. You will overload it. In those situations the NH D15 pulls ahead quite a bit.

Wow that is a considerable difference, thanks for that info. I'll probably be building in a large mid/full-tower (7000d or Fractal Torrent) so I'm still considering all my options as I won't be short on space that's for sure. Was also looking at AIOs particularly the ones from EK although all that RBG cable spaghettti is a big turn off. The EK aio basic looks fantastic but unfortunately doesn't share the same pump as the Elite. The Liquid Freezer II looks like a top performer but that pump is ugly imo. Choices choices haha.

    swamp cooler

We've had a few bouts of extreme extended rain here in AU, so I'm doing all I can to avoid humidity. We're running a dehumidifier quite often to keep the moisture levels in check. There's a big mould problem because of the set-in moisture across most of my state. I can relate to the sinus issues with air-con but I'd primarily be using it intermittently to keep a nice ambient temp during Summer.

As I am in prety much the same situation, except I live in Slovakia. I had up to 36*C during the hottest days in my room and I was only using my PC at around 300W and it was absolutely unbearable.

AC is definitely what I wanted to get but the people that were supposed to install it havent showed up for 2 months now and at this point I feel like it's a waste since summer will be over soon anyways.

Have in mind that the better cooling your PC has the more heat it will decipate so you will have a lot hotter room. I have 360mm radiator on my CPU and even if the CPU is not doing much, the heat buildup during summer was definitely noticeable.

I ended up sitting at the PC without shirt and just having wet towel from cold water over my shoulders and back during the worst days. Even now it's 3AM and I have 29*C in the room and its not even hot outside.

Regarding the build you linked, I had that Noctua cooler and I absolutely can't recommend it because it performs terribly for the price and it's not even that silent and I was using it for R9 3900X which is way less power hungry CPU than 12900k. NH D15 is much better cooler than this one while usualy even cheaper (some incompatibilities with RAM may occur so it is what it is though as it's so big).

That's strange about the NH-U12A, I've seen a lot of folks saying that it's comparible to the D15 with some small trade offs with performance vs size/compatability. The CPU cooler is the least concrete choice (besides RAM, just going with cheapest DDR5 kit until prices drop). Still deciding between air and water cooling atm. Thanks for the feedback WereCat.

  6. I live in AUS, it gets really hot here (30℃+ averages during summer). In my current housing, there's no air-conditioning and I'm considering other options before potentially investing $1k + running costs on a window air-conditioner. Temps are tolerable before introducing a PC to the room but I'm about to build a new fairly high end system, something like this: (https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/NJBm2m) and I'm a bit concerned that my room will turn into a furnace during the hotter months. In the past the ambient room temp gets to a point where I have to stop what I'm doing and let the ambient drop. Any tips for cooling without air-conditioning?

The room has 3 small 0.5x1.5m windows along one external wall and one 2x1.8m window along the adjacent wall. The room is 3.6m x 3.6m x 2.7m high the ceiling fan is centred in the room. The large window gets sun during the hotter part of the day the smaller ones are mostly in shade from ~9am onward.

  7. Goal: Small form-factor  CG/1440p @ 144hz Gaming build, good thermals and noise performance.

Budget (including currency): ~$5000AUD upper limit.

    Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Photoshop, Blender, various games @1440p.

Other details: Typical load: 3D in Blender/ZBrush, heavy Photoshop files and gaming at 1440p (Games ranging from old to current AAA). Aesthetic preference: As black as possible, as little RGB as possible.

I live in AUS and it gets really hot here and we don't have air conditioning in our home, so quality cooling components will be a priority. I'm quite sensitive to "low framerates", so the minimum FPS I'd be looking for is 80fps at 1440p for demanding single player titles like RDR2, competitive shooters aren't usually and issue.

Rough parts list I have so far, nothing concrete:

CASE: NR200P (Will be using the mesh not the tempered glass side panel)

CASE FANS: Noctua NF-A12x25, Phanteks T30 or similar

    PSU: SF750

MOBO: ? (The component I have the last knowledge of) Seems like a lot of boards are DDR5 only?

    RAM: 2x16GB (I see DDR5 is very $$$)
    CPU: 12700k

CPU COOLER: AiO vs Air Cooler?
    GPU: 3070ti
    STORAGE: 980Pro vs 970Evo? 1x 1TB M.2 OS/Programs 1x 2TB M.2 Games  - I liked having OS and games etc on separate drives in previous builds.

I had this problem with a pair of my bluetooth headphones. It was something to do with a bluetooth setting that seems to be more geared towards phones. Anyways, go to Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> click your headphones -> Go to the services tab -> Disable Handsfree Telephony and press apply. If it doesn't fix it you can just reverse the steps.

I provided a picture below in case you wanted a reference.

Cheers for the response, I'm actually having the issue on a Mac, but I'm very familiar with Windows too so I should be able to find some similar settings.

  9. Hi, the audio I'm hearing in my headphones (Bose QC45) is unbalanced favoring the right side. The strange thing is it's only when I'm connected to my Macbook Pro. Sound is balanced when connected to my phone. I've tried charging them, switching them off/on re-pairing and I've also checked the sound balance settings on the Mac. The headphones are only 4 months old and I haven't had issues in the past on the same laptop.

    Any ideas?

  10. Looking to step up my storage efforts after a series of recent drive failures. I've just picked up a Macbook Pro which has a 1TB SSD as my primary machine now and am looking at setting up a NAS for media and file storage/management as well as backups. I value power and ease of use (also want something professional looking), and obviously compatability with Mac & PC. I like value for money as much as the next person, but within reason. I don't want to compromise into a significantly worse option to save a few bucks in the short term. Looking to start with about 8TB which will give me a bit of headroom. My current system stores about 3TB of data, and my family are light users so I'd estimate another 1TB for their files.

I'm mainly looking for specific suggesitons. I've seen Synology NAS and the Seagate Ironwolf drives getting a lot of praise. Any input would be much appreciated.

    Budget: ~$1000 or less.

    Primary Uses:

    - File Managament across multiple devices (Mac, PC, Phone, Tablet)

    - Media Library (Moderate size, around <3-4TB total at the moment)

    - Backups

  11. Thought I'd post here as this question, although primarily storage focused, might branch out and go off topic.

TLDR; I'm switching from a big permanent Windows PC setup to a 13" Macbook Pro and there's a grey area with the specifics of my new setup outside of the MBPro & the monitor, and I'm looking for some suggestions (particularly storage). This setup will be used primarily for digital painting with some light video work and 3D in Blender and Marvelous Designer. *Will most likely include an iPad/Wacom display at some point.

    Detail

The idea with this switch was to make a move toward something more portable. I've been into games in the past, so my current setup (~5yrs old) is geared toward that and it can't move anywhere. I don't really play any games anymore so my values and usage have shifted so appealing specs like high refresh rate have been replaced by colour accuracy and easy of use. One of the major problems I have is data managament. Not organization, but storage and backup. In my current system I have a large mechanical drive and two SSDs. I have Dropbox which I store projects I'm actively working on but my slow connection gets in the way with cloud storage making it awkward and time consuming if I drop a large file in there. Saying that I should be getting a much better connection late next year, so that won't be a limiting factor forever. For the most part my projects aren't HUGE, but I do have a large photo reference library and a bunch of educational videos that are several hundred GB.

I wanted to discuss some options with mobility in mind, how to backup my work so it's "safe", what are the pros & cons of the different external storage optons.

    Values:

-Simplicity: "Less, but better." - Dieter Rams (not having to unplug 10 different cables when taking my Macbook from my desk haha)

    - Easy backups, access files on multiple devices quickly

    - Transfer speed (minimal down time moving/saving "large" files)

    - Understated/professional looks, no flashy lights or gamer-aesthetics.

    - PC & Mac compatability (low prio, but I might have a Windows machine in the future if I need for 3D)

What type of port are you plugging the HDD into on Windows? I would maker sure that it is not a USB 2.0 port as those ports are capped at 40Mbps transfer speeds.

It could also be the format the videos are in. Windows has to go through extra decoding for some video formats compared to Mac OS. So that could also account for the slowness.

90% of files are MP4, the others are MKV. As for the port, I'm using one on the front panel which are both "SS" 3.0.

  13. I have an external HD which I use for movies. A quick question regarding load times. On my 10yr old Macbook I plug in the HD, open a Finder (explorer) window and it displays all the files within a second or two and I can scroll smoothly without having to waiti for it to load more as I scroll down the list. On Windows, it's the opposite. I plug it in, wait a few seconds for it to load however many files are visible in the explorer window, but whenever I scroll down 5-10 files it has to load again and again as I scroll down the list. It feels really aweful to use, in contrast to how snappy Windows usually is these days.

Why is this? Is it as simple as Mac forces the drive to load everything and Windows just load whatevers in view?

Damn man, that sucks. Well that COM message is normal...hmmm. Since it doesn't seem to be CPU issue I'm starting to lean towards a power delivery issue, perhaps get your PSU tested? One other thing you can do to at least rule out a RAM issue. Go to your start menu magnifier glass, type Windows Memory, run that diagnostic tool to see if that will give us some more information.

Ran that tool, I stepped away for a while as it took good while to complete. When I returned I was at the login page so I assume no issues were found unless there's a log generated somewhere.

Check on the left menu. Under the system tab, what error warnings if any are you getting?

    Capture.PNG

This is the only one I'm seeing however instances of the same error predate the shutdown issues. (Also my mouse wheel just broke out of nowhere, woe is me! :old-sad:)
