  1. I am not 100% sure if your hoping for a monopoly or not with this? I would disagree if you are referring to monopoly being beneficial. We can see this with steam, When Valve used to make games and first made the store and now it does very little except sit here taking bigger and bigger % of a sale from the developers. Pretty much anywhere there is a monopoly we see stagnant progress since there is no need for it. We can take intel where from 2000 series up till AMD released Ryzen we say every CPU have maybe a 5-10% performance boost with 4 cores and 8 threads with increasing prices. Now with competition we have selection and 2 companies going at it to get our money forcing each other to either lower prices or give a better deal. With world events its hard to have the full argument since Covid cannot be taken as the standard of what happens with sales.
  2. I have issues with Steam mostly because its customer support is almost non existent and with Steam greenlight and prelaunch games they have allowed some very sketchy games on the platform some of which proved having coin miners or suspicious software that are still sitting on the store. Its hard to take on something that hasnt had competition for so long that its hard to pull people away. The store is the main reason I believe that valve sort of stopped making games. It makes sense to capitalize on the store since its pulling in easier money (probably more when you count in dev costs of a game). The next iteration for me would be one launcher that without utilization impact hold all my friends lists and groups cross every launcher while having the ability to cross play with all of them. Everything right now is either in very early development or has a large impact on performance due to having the need to communicate live with all the launchers. I think we are too early for subscription based launchers giving you all games (see origin some people might like it but not mass accepted).
  3. Recently dealing with the ASUS Thor PSU. Asus recommends to not have the fan facing up when there is no venting from the case. The paid link shows a different model as the one linked doesnt have a viewing section for the PSU. Watching the video at 10:57 you can see there is no ventilation from the PSU chamber and the main area of the case. Since this is a 1 off build and not to be used as a daily driver it should be ok but I would note that anytime you put a heavy restriction on a PSU that it could cause issues. If someone where to use a smaller Thor PSU the fan would most likely turn on since you would be utilizing alot more power from the PSU thus it would need more airflow. Since you are using a 1200W PSU for the video this problem could be mostly averted. Note that this is different from the fan normally facing up as that is ok its the issue where its being placed with the fan pointing towards a surface that doesnt have perforation holes thus restricting its ability to get any air. Just thought I would note this down since the exact reason is why I chose another PSU and a case that doesnt have a PSU view. I wanted to use the 850W Thor but use a small case and none has available airflow where even ASUS was saying they do not recommend it as it could cause overheating restricting the fans access to air. **I could be wrong as the case could have the holes but I do not see any ventilation**
  4. Hold on a minute....A company with a history of leaking personal information and selling personal information had another leak. Not going to get into all the parts of whats good or not good and all that. But as someone in the IT field this shouldn't be a surprise.
  5. Teams from Microsoft is like a more thought out complete platform for business but both it and discord have the same feel and look (at least to me) I can see Microsoft buying and expanding it into teams. Just another massive data collector we all agree to. I still keep some private server voip software for myself and friends.
  6. I think its more a preference thing. Its like how some people like certain keycaps over others. There is someone at my work who has a dvorak keyboard and its a joke about how "elitist" he/she is about it. Also remember he has small hands and fingers maybe he just cant reach the smaller enter button with proper form. /endterriblejoke
  7. That was part of my explanation. Parents should be aware of this before letting kids go free on consoles. As I do not have game consoles I would only assume they have parental controls. I understand kids could go around this but attentive parents would be aware. That was more my point. I agree that its not 100% on either side.
  8. There needs to be some sort of regulation in place for these online purchases or Microtransactions. This is pretty common where kids dont have an understanding on the impact of these small purchases. Since alot of them employ a sort of gambling action as well it plays on peoples addiction to gambling. There are alot of rules on how casinos and other gambling places have to listen to but since video games have a loop hole they pretty much go around this 100%. I wont pretend to have any answer to this as I am not near smart enough in that field but I do believe that the companies employing these tactics should hold some responsibility for these issues. I am not saying the parents or guardians to kids are 100% off the hook just giving kids credit card details, as they should also try to understand what the kid is trying to purchase. I have seen alot of parents be 100% oblivious on what a kid is doing online and I also believe that to be bad.
  9. In theory it should work. But defining work is difficult. Windows should be able to pick up some basic drivers for the new hardware depending on the version of windows and the hardware but it might have issues with conflicting drivers. There is also the issue of licensing since most Win10 licenses are stored on the mainboard. I would recommend doing a full reinstall on the drive in the new machine.
  10. The above posters are more correct as Thermal paste (unless using something very cheap) doesnt really produce much of a temperature difference. Sadly the silicon lottery would have a bigger part to play depending on generation. Making sure the mounting pressure is correct and that the surfaces are properly being covered are important. Most of the time the change of thermal paste from what is being used by reputable brands is just fine, you could see a few degrees difference. Making sure the gpu is able to get proper airflow and that the air in not circling around inside the case could yield better results. What case/gpu model and fan placements are you using. Also note that the delta of the temperature can play a big role as well. If your room is sitting at a cool 19C or a scorching 30C thats adding 11C temp difference which can easily heat up the inside of your case which in turn makes for hotter computer components.
  11. If you dont like Micro transaction games dont play them. If nobody played and purchased stuff in them they would go away really quickly.
  12. Most of the reviews for the user are him/her buying products. Sadly reviews can be purchased easily these days. Make sure that the product your buying is covered by Ebay and if you purchase its something that can be tracked by Ebay. Capture copies of everything and make sure that all emails and data are saved including the sellers product info. That way if it is a scam you can go to Ebay. You can check out their guarantee here.
  13. PSU:Seasonic FOCUS PX-850 Cablemod: CableMod PRO ModMesh RT-Series Cable Kit Looking to confirm that the cablemod kit is compatible with the PSU. here are the links to the products, PSU and Cablemod. Looking at Cablemods site I am not sure how it reads, I could assume that the RT series covers most of the seasonic but I try not to assume those things. thank you,
  14. Imagine if nobody purchased from Scalpers we wouldnt have an issue with scalpers? The problem isnt bots/savy users buying your cards and reselling them to you for a markup, its the people buying the markup price. Miner "comapnies" buying cards might be buying through business means which is smart thinking cant hold it against startups buying cards and relating them to the issue of nvidia not having enough supply for the demand during a global pandemic.
  15. I dont blame people from taking advantage of buying multiple gpu's and reselling for a profit. I blame people buying them at the marked up prices created the market for it to work so well. care hot take.....
  16. You would need to know the parts and such before you go buy a UPS. That should be easy once they have the parts you can ask what parts and from there you can search up the total power they would draw.
  17. What computer are you buying if you dont mind the question? There should be some indication of what its pulling. If its a gaming pc prebuild it should show the PSU wattage and from there its easy to account for a monitor and such.
  18. The size and VA of the UPS would be based on how much Wattage your pulling. The calculator on the APC website should assist. Lets say your gaming pc pulls 500w and you also need a monitor, so you would need one to safely take 600w (923va) as a ups can only push out X amount of wattage. The conversion to VA is on their website and alot of guides to assist.
  19. Buy a UPS as this will stop brownouts and surges in power. It will also have a battery for when power goes out giving you enough time to safe and shutdown. Amazon has a wide selection and most computer shops will carry them. To find out some information on how big of one you will need APC has a tool to assist https://www.apc.com/shop/ca/en/tools/ups_selector? (note you will have to fiddle with the wattage. make sure anything you wish to plugin you measure as you would need a monitor to see what your doing after a power outage) You can even get ones for your house installed now. I live in an older house so I am unable to do this as it would require alot of work. Also because I live in an older house I use a large UPS for my gaming/office PC's and monitors. I believe major tech channels never touch enough on how great a UPS can be as its a pretty boring piece of tech.
  20. I have been trying to find one without a shroud as I never liked shrouds. I always liked old school builds with cables everywhere looking more industrial. had to be creative for cables. Trying to find one that meets the requirements I am looking for can be very limiting.
  21. It does have some perforation holes and there would be some room between the shroud and the PSU for compatibility.
  22. I had this question in troubleshooting but this might be a better place for this question. I am looking to purchase a case and PSU where there is a possibility of the fan to be restricted but I do not know by how much or how much it could be affected. Case: http://www.phanteks.com/Enthoo-Evolv-mATX-TemperedGlass.html PSU: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Graphics-Cards-Accessories/ROG-THOR-850P/ Since the PSU has an LCD screen while the fan is facing up the case could cause some restriction on airflow. There is some perforation and I would assume there is some room between the shroud and the PSU for compatibility. Do you believe it would be greatly affected if I where to pull the full Wattage from the psu where it might need to turn the fan on time to time. Any advise would be great, as I havnt purchased the parts yet I am looking for a case that can hold this PSU with the LCD showing, MATX board rtx 3080 and a 280mm/360mm aio. I realize how random the parts list can be and how randomly specific it is.
  23. Case: http://www.phanteks.com/Enthoo-Evolv-mATX-TemperedGlass.html PSU: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Graphics-Cards-Accessories/ROG-THOR-850P/ I would love to find another MATX case that supports 360/280mm rad aio support while also allowing the PSU to ahve the fan facing up without a shroud covering the LCD on the ROG Thor. There is some perforation holes in the Phanteks case but not alot by the PSU area. Would having the fan facing up restrict the air enough to cause damage? I assume there is some room between the PSU and the PSU shroud but I cannot find anywhere that shows how much there is. Any information would be great. Also if there are recommendations for a different case it would also be of help. I am building a new pc/upgrading and will be moving some parts over while other are being upgraded. Currently waiting for my 3080 to arrive. I also currently have a 360mm rad but can switch it out for a 280mm This would only be a factor is im installing the rad in the front while having room for the GPU since some MATX cases can be small and not support gpu with rad in front.
  24. I am more baffled that gamestop is still afloat...Unless its a smaller shop for old school videogames/audio/technology equipment I cannot see a chain store dedicated to videogames...
  25. So weird that happened? I couldn't imagine how they have loose ones...Any confirmation on how that happened or just the normal "we sry this happen, we talked with internal to stop it in the future but no promises"?
