  1. Id be ok with most of these apps being removed for children. Screens of autoplaying shortform videos, non monitored or properly curated content should be brought to light. There are parents now simply sitting kids in front of devices to parent them. Or allowing kids to have too much freedom of the internet. It was bad historically allowing millennials on the internet without much control or understanding. There are ALOT of controls in place for people with easier appearance to do so. TikTok employing its users to call people shows what sort of power they could employ and this is the same with so many of these apps. Every app for social media steals information as well as other sources stealing from those social media apps. To me it sounds more who has that data. Where they are ok with NA based companies stealing and using the data for their means but not foreign non disclosed ones.
  2. After the google interview questionnaire they did was the nail in the coffin for me to think that a bunch of old law makers who have all been purchased and paid for will do anything is out the window..
  3. I have had this sort of argument within groups and companies. Where you have an "ai" bot supporting people. They hype up this bot and how its "AI" and it will support people so much faster and whatever. Where I bring up questions like "what if it finds incorrect info or its platform is circumvented?" where nobody wants to answer who is responsible. Is it the bot maker, the company impingement it, the admin in charge of feeding its data. If its the bot created company does their initial agreement or a clause let them off the hook? Since there isnt a fall human to simply re-educated or simply scapegoat companies are going to have that scapegoat go more and more uphill lol.
  4. Lawmakers require more attention to what "AI" is going to be doing in the next few years. With bots getting better as alot of tasks, some companies are looking to offload work to this "AI" to save on costs. More and more will hop on board where we may see a similar event to the industrial revolution where jobs that were prominent are now being replaced by automation. These people need to be moved to other jobs or we will see a drop in economy due to less spending and the companies that replaced humans with bots will then simply get payouts due to them complaining their service isnt needed. The transition period needs to be addressed as we move from jobs we have now to other roles and ways of thinking of work. This is the same with schools that are teaching out of date information and ways of thinking/learning. Depending on what your ultimate outcome of schooling is most people simply need to know how bots work and how to use AI and become creative in thinking to use the bots to supplement their work as this is what we will see in the near future. Where alot of tasks become automated and alot of old jobs get lumped together since a bot and someone utilizing it can do multiple roles very quickly. The other role would be to help design the bots on the backend which can use bots to help with the initial coding but you also require people to understand the baseline underneath coding as well. This is what we should start seeing in universities for Computer science. Most of what I see from grads isnt useful for this sort of aspect. Its very baseline and is usually just a way of saying "This person wants to learn more and is easy to teach". Note this is just an imo and what I see as someone who researches and creates AI solutions. Its coming alot sooner then people think.
  5. I don't mind updating the app and control panel. As long as its not removing aspects to make it "simple". Alot of there redesigns tend to remove features for the sake of "simple" and impact performance of the product.
  6. As long as you have a head on your shoulders you can be relatively safe. Dont go to sketchy sites and do NOT download anything from emails or click links in emails. Double check the sender for anything you even remotely believe to be a real email from someone you expect https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/how-do-i-check-a-senders-address-without-opening/18750add-c155-47d2-b6d5-98416a4c305e https://support.google.com/mail/thread/9692180/how-to-display-the-email-address-of-the-sender-of-an-email?hl=en That will stop most attack venues. Unless your some crazy rich target or a company most "hackers" simply dont care about you. They want payouts and money. If you download a file you can check it with malwarebytes, windows defender and you can also use https://www.virustotal.com/gui/. Simply downloading the new 3rd avatar movie from some random tor site off grid that contains an exe will cause more issues lol. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/keep-your-computer-secure-at-home-c348f24f-a4f0-de5d-9e4a-e0fc156ab221 Its never 100% sadly as you could do everything correctly and still be targeted but its a risk everyone takes. its the same thing you could catch a cold while on a buss in public.
  7. The main issue I have with these sort of questionnaires is that its a bunch of people who have no idea what actual questions to ask and what information to find out. example: These are mostly to help make people feel better. Its simply some cfo/ceo going on stage and answering stupid questions with technically correct answers or circling the truth. No real information is gathered and no correctly worded questions that would actually make them sweat is asked. Simply asking if TikTok sent data over to X country would be easy to say "no we didnt" because TikTok could claim they are a segment of their parent company Bytedance and its Bytedance sending the info to X country and Tiktok can claim they are unaware. Since they didnt ask the proper question its easy enough to sway the answer and thus public opinion. They should get properly educated in the respective field users asking the questions with the other people present. There is so much more wrong with apps like TikTok then what videos simplify.
  8. IT is a big field and covers alot. Comptia A+ is the basic get your foot in the door for t1 contact centre. Unless you have a university degree and multiple certifications before you apply for the job there are 2 basic ways to get into higher up positions. IT is a learn what you enjoy and are good at. There are alot of fields from networking, server, SaaS, CcaaS, etc. So many certs and most will be very narrow in its use case so depending on your each company it may require new ones which alot will simply pay you to take. 1. Put your time in on the service desk and get your foot in the door at a company. Many will promote internally if you show your skills and willingness to learn. Not all will do this sadly. 2. While working get certifications for the positions you want. CCNA/MCSA/etc to get into the portion of IT you want to go into. tldr: have degree and certs for jobs or work t1 and work towards certs for positions you want.
  9. most likely some issue in the video: Reactive (after the video is posted) Video Replace: replacing the video with a new version without re-uploading This relies on YouTube and takes some time. There are fairly strict guidelines around the use of this tool and strong justification must be provided for all changes. This is preferred to a re-upload, but there is likely a soft-limit on how often we can use this resource. Re-upload the video: Set the original, erroneous video to Private and upload a new version. This will have algorithmic effects, but must be done if replacement is not an option Pinned comment: add a comment describing the correction. This will not be received by viewers who do not check the comments (common, especially for those watching on a Smart TV) and should only be used for low-severity errors. I was watching the video and it went away mid video. Though not rly paying attention as more background noise while I work lol.
  10. AI needs some controls or companies will quickly replace as much as possible to make a quick $$ I hate how AI is being pushed when in reality its simply the same chat/audio bots we have had for years. Companies are quickly trying to replace humans with bots to save money to then sell products to the same out of work People...We could be heading to another Industrial revolution, where we need to find work for people while there is a transition where alot of jobs are replaced by automation. To me as someone who actively researches AI and how to maximize its use for IT this is something that is coming sooner then people think and is one of the biggest issues facing the next oncoming years. Before simply replacing positions we need to find new places and new facets for the labour force to work. Bring back physical media Digital ownership is a mess. Every game now isnt yours and is simply a rented extension that you have no control over. Gaming is at a sorry state where big devs are more inclined to milk you for every penny rather then making a fun game. Convenience of not having to go to a store and have a physical medium has made it so people dont own most games they buy currently. I still buy physical media as it feels like collecting now where its not simply a fun thing to won but also an investment as the game/movie/show/etc could be taken off or changed and I would have an original version. Think my old disney VHS's.
  11. I doubt its anything more then notes on paper and ideas trying to be sold to investors. We are still far away from utilizing someone while they are dreaming as we barely even fully utilize people when they are awake. There are entire departments in big contact centres designed to only manage utilization/occupancy/adherence yet some company found out how to make dreams and brain waves physical? We dont have a proper map of the human brain and a full understanding. We have some parts mapped like the brain stem but other then "Right side better for X and left side better for Y" analogies we are YEARS away from anything resembling putting pictures to brain activity let alone being able to work or do anything productive while asleep lol.
  12. I use beeper and its kinda cool. Its missing ALOT of features you get from each messaging app. My main complaint was all the different chat apps and having them in one place which is great with Beeper. Imessage, sms, fbchat, insta, discord, whatsapp, telegram all in one place. So instead of having to open 6 different chat apps where someone sends a link or chats I simply have it all in one place. Havnt used the mini yet.
  13. This analogy can be made about most things. Oil filling can sometimes cost $100+, Replacing a bathroom faucet costs $40 in parts and $100+ in someones time. You are paying for their experience and knowledge to do the job for you. They can charge what they believe their work is worth. Alot jobs are simply doing work that another person doesn't have the full knowledge of doing. Someone in their own house could work on their own electrical, yet they pay companies to come in and do it for them. Its the premium of the knowledge and if there is a warranty attached/other services being used.
  14. To me this is the biggest issue companies like Google need to deal with BEFORE they keep attacking their end users. TV had to vet out which advertisements they allowed. Some bad things would slip through the cracks but for the most part they were ontop of what was being used for advertising on their platform. Online advertising is just a giant cesspool of more than 50% of everything I see is either a straight scam or not an accurate description of what is trying to be sold. They have bots scanning every random youtube upload to check for copywriten music/video/etc where before its even seen by the public its flagged. Yet users have to be the ones to report to Google and alike that the ads they are serving are another "MR.BEAST $1000 Giveaway IF YOU BUY NOW" scam by the official MR.Beast company called "Sir.Beest Prudectionz" official sponsor on youtube for kids. Google expects everyone to stop using adblocking when users are being served 20 minute ads 3 times in a row for a 1 minute long funny video a youtube channel with 10 subscribers uploaded for a school project. and while trying to find the video for class you have to scroll through at least 3 sponsored videos with straight up scams trying to look like giveaways. If ads where not nearly as visually/audio/length intrusive and quality controlled I don't mind them nearly as much to try and find ways to circumvent them.
  15. My main issue with ad is companies like Google dont do enough vetting and like video muting/algorithm/what have you, alot of it is not sent over a human persons desk or seen by a human. Its approved with a set criteria. Please show my ignorance as I would love to see how ignorant people are allowing every other fake Mr.Beast scam company getting through to be able to ads on sites like youtube. If ads where not mostly scams/malware/etc more people would be ok. TV advertising has some of the same issues where we had years of the magic electromagnetic bronze wrist band that was said to cure all ailments. but for the most part they are vetted to be inm line with whatever channel that are published on. If im watching a simple commercial for yogert I have no issues but every other ad is meant to look like a legit video with clickbait title in hopes to scam you when you click it and install malware. Google and these companies are going about this the wrong way imo. If they simply vetted better for ads and simply made them less intrusive to the experience they are selling then more wouldnt be googling how to get around the anti ad blocking features.
  16. Watching the "apology" video. I only have quotes as 2023 apology videos are just common these days. They addressed the criticisms made and they are working to improve the workflow. Looking at the video it more appears it was a breakdown of the hectic upload schedule and growing pains of having a CEO as well as having Linus in every video. I do appreciate the bit of LTT humour in the video even though some kids will see it poorly. Overall a very well done video accepting the criticisms and addressing it for the public which is a bonus for everyone. I hope they built into a better work culture and from this create better videos that are not only there for the entertainment value (random crazy hardware or the AMD 5K upgrades) but also more informative videos and reviews of actual products people will use. I would love to see more normal computer case unboxing even if its not a full review with testing. Bring back The lanboy case opening outside of NCIX on a public bench lol. @LinusTech I hope you and your team dont get discouraged by Rabble-rousers and can go through the comments to find proper criticisms and conversations that will help LMG grow as a community. I still stand by my initial statement that every company/group/etc can be criticized as long as it is meant to be constructive and open up a conversation. Maybe it was a kick in the pants that was needed to fully bring to light some pains other peers in the space have. I hope everything was done in good faith to help your team evolve and view internally what needs to be changes/adapted/improved upon. For someone who works in the IT space with a large company and at times has to have these conversations they are never "fun" but they are needed. To me its a great place to really make great changes that not just peers in your sphere and community but LMG as well. I hope fans on both sides can cool down a bit knowing they are trying to address what was said in good faith here with proper conversations.
  17. People still here rabble-rousing...why? Look how some conversations aged:
  18. To clean up a forum from posts that are simply telling someone to "get F*cked" without adding anything of value. Its not censoring anything, its moderating.
  19. mods need to go through alot of this as alot of the conversation devolved into a yelling match with fanboys on both sides spitting at each other. nobody is changing minds here and I dont think the conversation is going to go anywhere. hard to see as it started out as a company criticism and learning from it devolving into whatever half these conversations have become.
  20. The amount of people creating accounts or burner accounts to not folly their mains to say "here is my opinion" to then add nothing of value is crazy. I stick by what I said before. People on both sides appear to be misinterpreting what is meant by each others wording and meanings.
  21. Every company can and should take criticism. Its about how you handle it and grow that is important. That is what is of note here its a criticism of LMG and there where points and arguments made. Making it public (said that video wasn't set for monitization and no sponsor) was for the benefit of LMG to help push their points and start a larger conversation. Honestly I wouldn't use any LMG video as the be all for complete guide on my buying decisions and simply use it as enjoyable videos with larger budgets than most channels using tech. If anything more emphasis on "do your own homework and here are some sites we like to use" would be great. To be clear both channels have visible criticisms. There are some for GamersNexus I dont agree with their stance on but Its not a topic for this forum. Where there are things I disagree with on LMG as well. Both should be able to be criticized and can grow from it. This to me isnt some hit piece to create drama but instead a great learning opportunity to hear back from competitors in the same scene giving listing out their issues where LMG could build solutions. It will be great to see the improvements made from these sorts of discussions. I for one love being part of those hot meetings internally at my company as you build out what is wrong and how do we improve.
  22. Been wanting to find a universal chat app as there are so many different apps for chatting. imessage/fbmessenger/instachat/sms/whatsapp/discord/etc. So anything that could put all these chats into a single place where I dont have to open 17 different apps which some people use but others use something else. I see a few apps but most are on pc which defeats the purpose when being mobile. I got into a few beta/alpha apps and one called Beeper but havnt tried it yet as it wasnt me to use the desktop app first. Any other apps on the horizon that allows me to integrate all these needless chat apps into one place. Others can use all the different apps id rather just have 1 place that simply grabs the data from the other chats and puts it into one place
  23. honestly not a fan since it constantly shows up on my main page so I cannot see when a new video is out and It keeps suggesting while scrolling random videos. Maybe its just me but if there was a way to have would be better imo.... I wait to see blue dots for new videos and its constantly showing new ltt live stream but its just the silly TV thing instead of a live event which is nice to tune into to listen to while working. Not a fan of the constantly live tv...
  24. Some believe they wanted the ability to see all info including text/images shared, etc and full control while others were fine with having no control.
  25. That is a odd issue for android. I wish they had a more universal one built in based on account like apple. I believe they have the family app but I dont believe its in base android or that companies have it installed at startup.
