  1. Hello, I was wondering if someone can share the LTT newsletters. I got the last one "The ones we DIDN'T release" but would like to read the previous once too.
  2. Are 4 GB kinde close for VR?
  3. Im currently running a Asus 780 Ti ROG and so on. I really want to win so i can buy me a 4k Monitor primarly for higher resolution when watching movies and also try 4k on games. So a gpu that is able to support 4k at a decent performance would be nice. Also i always wanted to try AMD and i think a polaris gpu would be perfect for this. Please excuse my poor english.
  4. Hi, currently im using a Fritz!Box as an all in one device. Im getting ADSL Annex.B so i need a Splitter in front of my modem/fritzbox. I added a Picture of some sort of concept drawing of my future network and have some question about it. 1. Is there some sort of vlan powerline adapter so i only need 1 pair of adapters? 2. What software router can you recommend(for free) i was that there is a esxi is that fine or should i get another one? 3. I just need straight through cable or did i miss something? 4. I usally get a ping around 30ms do i have to expect a higher ping and how much higher New Network concept(The powerline adapter are paired seperated but go over one wire) Old Network
  5. Thank you. But I going to search for a nother one this one is way to loud.
  6. Ok. So i need a case for my VM server like an Intel SR2625? What hardware does the storage server with ZFS need? And can i use the CPUs of the first post and if i can use them with which mobo?
  7. My buget is about 1k. I already have a case for storage server and the LSi card. So should i buy some hardware for the storage server and then some more powerful hardware and a case for the VM server? Im still dont get my i shouldnt but everything into one server. The most user for the storage server are 2 people and the VMs.
  8. It would be kinde expensive to buy an extra case etc. Whats speaks against an all in one server? Heat problems? Instability with ZFS in a VM? Security issus with the firewall?
  9. I only got the case with PSU and SAS/SATA Backplane so does it matter? I think the case is designed for storage server because it has 15 HDD Bays. My plan was it to buy a mainboard and the HBA i mentioned in the first post. Then i would connect the HBA and maybe the mobo sata ports with the backplane of the case.
  10. I'm not sure if I understand your question. The server should run a firewall and a file server both in VMs. The VM with the file server should act as a NAS. And a VM with lets say Kodi or a web server should be able to acess data from the file server.
  11. Already got a Supermicro SC 933 3HE from a friend for free. And im going to buy a LSI 9211-8i for all the HDDs.
  12. ohhh im sorry accidentally pressed enter i think. Im still writing sorry EDIT: Now the post is finished
  13. Hi, im currently learning a lot networking (going for my CCNA) so i decided to build a server. Im still not so sure what hardware i should use. I hope you guys can help me. What the server should do: Running VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6.0 VM with Arch Linux and ZFS VM with Sophos XG Firewall VM with MediaServer maybe Kodi (VM with little Game Server or Website) maybe Hardware i want to use: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2670 ~200€ Intel S2600CP2 or Tyan S7050GM4NR (never heard of Tyan before) ~250€ Budget for Mobo and CPU: ~800€. My question: Does the Xeon has enough performance? Or is there a better alternative? Which mobo should i use never heard Tyan before and the Intel one was some bad reviews. Any cheap ebay alternative? Should i use ECC unregistered RAM? The VM with MediaServer and Website need to acess my ZFS VM is this VM setup fine with esxi as base or should i go another way? Does it make even sense to run the firewall in a VM?
  14. Hi, quick question i have a Asus Fatal1ty z97 killer motherboard with a i7 4790k and a SSD as main Drive with Windows installed. Now i wanne setup storage for all my old DVDs and Pictures and i was thinking about Raid 5 to get a bit of failure safety. Should i set-up the Raid via a Software and when yes which on or should i use the onboard Raid feature. My main concern is what happends when my mainboard breaks? Im kinde new to the Raid stuff so it shouldnt be so complicated and i dont want to use a complete safe solution with ZFS and stuff like this because it way to much affort for just some DVD data. Sry for my english, im from germany Hope someone can help me.
