  1. Hello guys, bit of a strange one for you. My friend was recently playing Hogwarts Legacy on his PC using a 1070 (Pushing it I know) when all of a sudden it switched off, and now refuses to work as it did before. Not displaying any output, but switching on. I believe the motherboard my have been vaulted when it switched off damaging the primary PCI slot for the display out. Having overworked as the GPU, as it has been confirmed to still work in another PC. It's really quite hard to diagnose being so far away but this is what we have established: The Motherboard still accomidates a GPU and the fans turn on for a fraction before giving up, no LED's on the motherboard light up but the fans do spin. This is a PC that won't even display the BIOS. He's tried: Draining the PC of power Reseating components Making sure everything is plugged in correctly Checked memory moduals one at a time to see if they're hindering the POST Resetting the CMOS Specs: 5900x (No APU for onboard graphics testing) Corsair Rm850x PSU 4x8GB Corsair vengeance X570 Aorus Elite WiFi MB Was a GTX 1070 (Is currently a 970 for testing purposes The current 970 which we know works in another PC doesn't work in the broken current one. We're at a bit of a loss, naturally the next course of action is to try a new Motherboard but he's a bit strapped for cash at the moment. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  2. Specs: Intel Core i7 4790k MSI Gaming z97 Motherboard 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 Ram Corsair H100i Issue: I threw together this PC not long ago out of spares that I've had lying around the house. I decided to add the H100i since it's there to be used, initally I plugged the H100i cable into the wrong slot (like an idiot) which caused the PC to turn on and off. However once I'd figured out what had happend, I plugged it into the correct slot. This is when it burnt somthing, a bit of smoke appeared from the cable, which of course I instantly turned off the PC and tried to sus out what the issue was. Of course, I could not detect what was wrong and continued building it. However from here on, the USB's would not work at all. The Display works and I get to the 'Please insert bootable media' screen but none of the USB's at the front of the PC or back I/O want to work. Would I be correct in assuming that they've potentially fried? Which is still strange since I'm still getting a display output. And yes, I tried the keyboard/mouse on another PC to make sure they're still working... they are. Thanks in advance, - LC
  3. Just found this actually, Microsoft are pulling the 'PC Health Check' app for now, because it doesn't shed enough light on what needs to be done to prepare the PC for the upgrade. https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/06/28/update-on-windows-11-minimum-system-requirements/ However it does go into a bit more info in the requirements.
  4. Oh right, so you've actually done it with no issues? Good to know. I've not attempted it myself yet, but may do once I saved all the valuable info on the drive. And yes, it's surprising what actually googling issues can result with.
  5. Greetings, yes I have come across this issue myself. TPM is fairly easy to enable for the AMD ASUS UEFI under Advanced > "AMD ftpM Configuation", as long as it's version 2.0. (On supported motherboards) "tpm.msc" clarifies that for you. With a little research, I stumbled upon this thread in another forum in regards to compatability to secure booting and it's "Secure boot state unsupported" : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/701054/secure-boot-unsupported-windows-10/ Which leads to this Microsft tool however, It's always warned that users save their data before attempting to convert thier drive from a MBR (Master Boot Record) to a GPT (GUID Partition Table) drive. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/mbr-to-gpt As the fourum thread linked states "In order to enable SecureBoot in UEFI firmware a GPT disk is required to boot. Make sure you disable Legacy or CSM boot before booting after the conversion."
  6. 10/10 Love plague doctors OP. You should have Apocalypse Orchestra playing, every time you boot it up.
  7. Do as I did and pay for it yourself, it's what I had to do... I was with Sky Broadband *shudders*... Paid for a good ol' Virgin Media 110 download and half arsed upload. But point still stands.
  8. I'm always adamant that I truly learnt PC hardware when I went to college, I mean yes I did "IT" in High School but that was more Microsoft Office and all it's functions. Since then I've just looked more in depth to the systems and how they work. I mean, my college would not have told me about the Pascal GP 100 Architecture whitepaper. https://images.nvidia.com/content/pdf/tesla/whitepaper/pascal-architecture-whitepaper.pdf Cheers - LC
  9. Anybody know why Team Group's elite packs of 8GB ram have become unavailable? I know this is only on Overclockers but I can't seem to find that pack anywhere else either. I'm going to assume they've become outdated, and moved on to better hardware? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team-group-elite-8gb-2x4gb-ddr4-pc4-19200c16-2400mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-tpkd48gm2400hc16dc0-my-065-tg.html Cheers
