I'm thinking about upgrading to a Ryzen 7 3700X paired with a X370 ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme and a faster 16GB kit of DDR4.
Also considering replacing my P400 TG with a Lian-Li O11 Dynamic.
Thoughts on such setup?

The Extreme costs exactly the same as Hero (with no Wi-Fi) so there's no point in getting the Hero here... Taichi was my initial choice but the price difference is minimal, and I prefer ASUS' software suite as well as their BIOS, apparently this is something that sucked on the Taichi (at least when it launched)
I looked at O11 because of aesthetics and airflow, which really sucks in my current P400. It's also good for rads so it should pair well with my AIO
I looked at the R7 3800X hoping for higher boosts and all core OCs but was left disappointed after yesterday's Toms hardware review...

@Den-Fi Thanks for the input! Did you own any of the hardware I mentioned?
@Origami Cactus I know that they don't have the latest AGESA on X370, but they do have Zen 2 support so I'd expect the AGESA to come a bit later - is that reasonable? -
@Morgan MLGman Not having the latest bios is not the end of the world, but the little things, for example mouse support being broken in bios when 3700x is entered etc, which are annoying. Also by default it chose CL22 for my CL16 ram.

@Morgan MLGman Don't do it! We're 6700k buddies! There's not many of us left

@i_build_nanosuits I've seen most of the reviews and this seems to be the worst-case scenario in games that I don't even play (besides BFV, but trust me that my 6700K is worse in that game because it's maxed out)
Overall I've seen 3900X being ~6% slower than the 9900K at 1080p across 36 games, though I'd expect the 3700X to be a few % behind a 3900X due to cache architecture design choice for CPUs that only have one chiplet present, this is only visible in some specific games but it'd add to the average score.I honestly don't want a 9700K, I could buy a 9900K but it costs as much as a 3700X + motherboard here... And in this case I will have an upgrade option, when I got my Skylake setup I hoped for at least some upgradability and I feel terribly screwed that I didn't... All I could do is to switch for a 7700K for like 300MHz more and I don't think it would've been even worth the hassle. I'm not sure there would be a meaningful upgrade path if I chose to go LGA1151 again
Also, at 1440p the differences won't be as pronounced so it shouldn't really matter much even for gaming -
@Morgan MLGmanyeah i get your point but in the video they say even at 4K sometimes the CPU can still limit performance...it's an amazing video from DF and honestly the difference seem very noticeable and a lot more pronounced than i tought...i dunno man, listenning to the video carefuly...not sure what i would do.

@i_build_nanosuits I think some of those issues may also be at least partially improved by bios and software updates in the near future as well, I mean it kinda is a new approach to CPU design, they also tested with a stock cooler (they couldn't have done the same with the i9) and the new boost technology behaves sort of like a GPU boost which is largely based on temperature
If I won't be satisfied with Zen 2 performance I'll just go back to Intel -
@Morgan MLGmanThere's no doubt it's better than 6700K...but when it comes to 8700K or 9700K for purely gaming machine...yeah...nobody around you upgrading and selling second hand 8700K kits?
-
Nah, it's not that common where I live I got a ridiculous bonus at work for the last quarter so I wanted to buy new
I was also considering buying a OnePlus 7 Pro...
I'm stupid... -
I'd love to go to a 8700k or 9700k from my 7700k but second hand pc parts here are stupidly over priced becasue people want to sell you a system for the same price they bought it for 3 years ago lol So I'll spend about $1600 for a 3700x, a mobo, case, psu and monitor and still have some money left over to buy lunch at work lol
-
@Morgan MLGmanhave you considered getting a Rift S?
I got one to upgrade from my rift and it's bloody awesome...so many good VR titles nowadays too...sim racing on this is AMAZING...worth every penny.
-
@LukeSavenije Just an FYI - Turns out the Extreme and the Hero don't have the same VRM. It looks the same because the arrangement is still 8+4 phase, but the power stages are 60A IR power stages, and the Hero has 40A dual NFETs so it's a bit improved (not that it really matters, but a good to know thing)
@i_build_nanosuits I haven't really been interested in VR that much, honestly I lack the time to play normal games with friends, let alone VR ones so at this point it'd be a waste I know it's fun but I don't play many singleplayer titles anymore...
