Well... If nothing else, that's cheap desktop / laptop computers / computer parts for you to use, sell, or just to do whatever you want with them. My grandmother bought herself a new laptop just because the older one "had a virus that made it unusable"; turns out it was just a single trojan, removed it, and got the laptop for free.

    So these just happened today:

My mother was complaining about her Lumia 625 running out of storage space. I go check it, not a single byte free. I proceed to check what is taking up all that space; 4 GB worth of pictures she has taken with it and never deleted. That was over 2000 photos, within 3 months or so.

My little sister complained at her laptop (that's finally in use now, just because I bought a functioning charger for it as a b-day gift) was acting up, and constantly complained that Firefox extensions needed updating. I go check it, the laptop opens a new window every time you click a link or open a new tab (wat? Doesn't even allow just to open to the same window, it forces a new one), and installing new versions of the outdated Firefox extensions was impossible because of that. Solution? Download Chrome and call it a day. Extension problems were gone, but still opens a new window every time you go anywhere on the internet.

Her laptop's keyboard also has a mind of it's own: you can type one correct word per 3 seconds or so. Otherwise it just blurs some random letters without any structual reason.

I guess it's time to re-install Windows on her laptop (it's running Windows Vista Basic, in case you're asking. It ran without problems when I owned the laptop, but after giving it to my sister, it got messed up, like every electronic device she touches...)

Not really a non-techie story, but a little something else:

So in the past few days there has been at least one occurance per day that when connected to either of our school's WiFis, when going somewhere on the internet while using a laptop, it for some reason redirects to a site with a CS: GO screenshot of some StatTrak knife, and soon after redirects to a website about hinduism (in Finnish). This has happened to me, and some few other sophomore students. I tried asking our IT responsible teacher about it, apparently some student / pupil (our high school and middle school share the same building) has done that with an android app, which he won't tell me for obvious reasons... (Although all it would need is Google and a few brain cells) He still hasn't been caught, though.

So... Some script kiddie is just trolling our school. Doesn't happen often, though. Maybe once or twice per day. Still something that hasn't happened here before.

Are they really that stupid, or are you in a school in which majority are complete idiots?

Heck even around the high school I'm in, no-one thinks (or at least say anything) than I'm hacking even if I have cmd open. Though it could be that no-one says anything related to me when I'm nearby (if I am, they'll try to whisper), as "I only exist when others need help with tech"...

I'm thankful that my non-tech literate classmates aren't way too illiterate like yours, and that there's actually one classmate who understands tech (but not so much hardware).

    EDIT:
It was your brand new 4770K!? Are you crazy to bring that expensive piece of tech into school full of idiots?

A lot of parents understand that. Sadly my mother doesn't; she thinks I'm her property and that I have no rights to complain about her.

Coming back to the first post of this text chain... (this one bellow this text):
...I guess he shouted at his mother due to lack of her understanding in audio (at this level quite common) and because of LapX not being yet another kid who wants more premium stuff, but being an (at least sort of) audiophile.

Don't worry. There will be more, as non-techies are far away from dying out of this world.

Off topic: We have absolutely no websites blocked (other than region locked websites, should be obvious) and we get to install whatever we want on the laptops / convertibles our high school provided us (heck even some second-year students sometimes randomly go to adult websites just for lolz on the general use desktop PC that's free for everyone to use). And the teachers won't give a damn as long as we don't break anything physically.

My little sister is very similar to this... Although she most of the time uses a broken LCD screen as a hard surface, as I've taught her not to keep laptop on soft surfaces like blankets and such, but she still sometimes does that.

On topic: my recent experience with non tech-savvy people: my mother woke me up at 11.00 PM because our compact camera said that the SD card was locked. Well... You can pretty much guess why that is and how it was solved...

When under 8 year-olds are around ,there shouldn't be anything valuable and small (like processors, cash, batteries etc.) in their reach, otherwise they (especially those under 6 years of age) proceed to try to eat them... Though I think you knew that already.

EDIT: Oh and yeah, RIP Terrytek's 4770K. You will be missed.

Not gonna lie. I have to admit that I've vacuumed my older PC about half a year ago, and was fully aware of the dangers of vacuuming PC's internals. Nothing happened, even the dust inside the PC didn't move anywhere.

Haven't seen that kind of problem when looking at desktop PCs. However, I see that a lot when looking at laptops.

Meant to post this when I got out of school for the summer holiday in the last Saturday of May (2,5 months of doing basically nothing). Just forgot and got lazy.

About a week ago, my mother thought that I could use a leftover SIM-card that we're paying for but it's not in use, to be used in my tablet so I could go to internet wherever I need to. Otherwise a good idea, but the tablet (Acer Iconia W510) doesn't have any SIM-card slots. Then my mother told me to disassemble that tablet and try to stick that SIM-card in there somewhere... I obviously responded negatively (+600€ tablet and it's not even mine, but for me to use in high school by the same high school) and then she told me to contact my other tech-savvy relative to get the SIM-card in that tablet if I'm incapable of disassembling it and re-assembling it. Once again, I responded negatively and tried to tell her that you just can't put a SIM-card inside the tablet if it doesn't have any SIM-card slots and that trying to disassemble a +600€ tablet would be a rather mindless idea. She still won't believe me.

Another thing related to the tablets my ''class'' can use in high school: two days ago we had to show some powerpoint presentations to our class. The teachers thought that we could link our tablets directly to the projector with an HDMI-cable. They ordered few full-size HDMI cables, and they didn't remember the tablets have only mini-HDMI. Also the projector only has two VGA ports and there's no adapters anywhere in the high school building...

And yet another thing related to the Acer Iconia W510 tablets our class can use: two days ago (again) one girl randomly asked me to figure out how to disable camera flash (it's on by default). There's a very visible button in the touch screen when the camera is in use that's pretty hard to miss. And she didn't knew what it does... So out of all classmates it's me that has to solve small tech related problems that about half of our class can solve? I guess I'm again the 24/7 free tech support for my classmates (back in junior high school I had the same role).

    Something completely off-topic:

Got back into TF2 for a bit of plr__ tdm_hightower (no-one plays the objective... lol), and played a little too well... Got kicked (votekick) for being a too good Scout on a pub server...

Couldn't get a better screenshot, but new high scores for Scout... (changes happened to points, kills, assists, damage, dominations and life expectancy)

I guess this went according to the rules of online gaming: there's either "noobs" or "hackers".

Idea sounds great, the execution might be great, people will use it... I would use it, but I never really use anything else than my desktop PC and phone. Sometimes I wish I could stream to my Windows 8 tablet (with a keyboard dock... I'm not a complete moron), but only wish so when I'm outside of home... Yeah, wouldn't exactly work.

I have had issues with Logitech's software too. Their hardware is great for the price, the software is meh.

The software to make the monitor on my Logitech G19 keyboard to function, makes the monitor reboot every 10 - 30 minutes, lagging the whole computer in the process. Thank god I found out that in order to have the backlighting (the only reason I bought the keyboard, honestly), that software is not needed.

    Want sniper wallpapers?

that feeling when Murphy's law is hitting you hard...

In that kind of scenario, I'd probably be furious too. That's why I gave up early. Will mess around with Linux in the future (possibly Debian), but for the next few weeks or so, not feeling like it.

Also, fun to get notifications to my phone, thinking I am actually getting some text messages, but no; it's just an anime watching app giving a notification spam mid-lesson and in the middle of a night... Should probably turn that option off...

    lol yeah
I've only seen one instance where a hacker (more like script kiddies) got switch justice on TF2, I haven't played enough CS:GO yet to experience the full range of hard times.
Most of the time you gotta votekick them, and even then they have a username changer script that copies other players name every few seconds.
