Minor rant time. Can people who know 0 about th…

my favorite claim is its the worst environmental disaster in decades. Its not even close to the worst thing in the past 15 years. I'm going to disagree there and say this was partial caused (NTSB will give us the full thing) by the lack of enough time to inspect cars. NS has been hardest on cutting inspection times down Whats not clear is why both DD didn't scream or the crews didn't react. I've heard that NS kept increasing the thresholds because it was creating too much radio chatter. Which seems crazy given BNSF and UP have 3 track mains with DDs

Can people who know 0 about the railroad industry stop repeating stuff they don't understand.

I'm very tired of people acting like Electronic Pneumatic brakes are magic and the century old air brake system must be replaced. ECP is the same fundamental thing but instead of just a few valves to dump the train every car can dump the train because the cars all talk. It is better for train handling and stops a bit quicker.
Should we move to ECP yeah, but doing so is going to be a decade long process that is going to involve laws and money.

I have to temper my "I work for a railroad" with "the general public has no idea what I'm talking about" in terms of my opinions on a lot of railroad topics.

Was the NS derailment in Ohio bad? Yes.

Has NS response been somewhat tonedeaf? Also yes.

Was this issue directly caused by corporate greed and layoffs and stock buybacks and no sick days? No. Hot bearings happen, and sometimes they fail catastrophically. There are systems in place to inspect this, but from what I understand, the car only triggered "caution" and not "warning" at two sites.

ChatGPT has been causing quite the ruckus among the school IT and English departments. I actually almost got a demerit already for writing something too well I suppose? Teacher looked at it and said "Ha, must be AI!" and it was a long process of disputing that, complicated by the fact that I have an OpenAI account...

Either this teacher is quite ignorant about AI or your usual writing abilities are extremely poor.

  5. my recommendation would be get a separate headphone amp and feed that to everyone who needs it then use XLR mics for each announcer Sony MDR-7506 are good headsets with Senal SMH-1000 being a little cheaper Sure SM58 on dekstop stands assuming kids stay right up on them should do decent fed into an interface. I don't know of a good unit if you want more than 2 channels other than using a 2 channel unit fed via a mixing board. I see a lot of the mixing boards now claim to do USB input I've never used them

woops did the math in my head.
  7. most of the camera manufactures have clips for download on their site. Blackmagic for sure does
  8. you totally can use a kit lens to get good results. My favorite choice for interesting while fairly lenses has always been old film lenses Heilos44 family has a number of different looks based on which flavor you buy and adapters are under 20$
  9. a Sony A7sII can be found on major reselling sites for below 800$ that combined with a 35mm or 50mm F1.4 prime would do fairly well in low light. The issue is fast primes on E mount are pricey and sigmas EF to E adapter is 200$. sonys A7S line has a lower resolution sensor (just above 4K) but because of that has massive sensor area which picks up a ton of light
  10. crazy to think I've been on this forum for 7.5 years and coming up on 2 years as a mod

Makes me realize I'm coming up to the date (whatever that is) where I will have been on the forum as a member just as many days as i've been on the forum as a mod.

  12. the goal in most cases of dedicated cameras is to get a good image with as little processing as possible. To get good battery life most have lots of fixed function hardware with as little GP hardware as they can. Many newer cameras are adding in more and more of these features. my Fuji will do film simulations right in camera and can do panoramic and I believe do the auto bracketing for HDR not sure it can do the combining I get a mix of in body lens and sensor stabilization with in some modes active stabilization done via cropping like a phone.

  17. LMG quite often doesn't hit focus or is running the lens wide open both of which will make the image softer. They also at times struggle to get enough light in some shots. Last BTS shot I remember it was Sigma Art lenses on Sony FX line cameras. I agree you don't need to see every pore on the hosts face. I've not seen it here but I know many actors will require a diffusion filter be used so it takes a hint of the sharpness off.
  18. Got to try and use this more to know if I like it but grabbed a G502 hero to replace my tired Saber RGB and the temporary G300S I had

  19. yes it would however a bit wider of a lens would be more ideal for that. Finding a used Fuji 16mm F2.8 maybe an option Bokeh comes down to how wide open (F2) or stopped down the lens is (F8 or F11)
  20. a restart after 2 months was needed. I should update my GPU drivers but its fine that can wait

I wanna say it was TVwazhere who announced the change sometime last year but I don't expect it was his decision.
