NowThatsDamp got a reaction from Thinkfreely in Is this a good buy?
I used the Proliant drawers back in the pre-hyperthreading quad core days.
Great hardware.
Be ready for a little bump in your power bill though... That'll be a 500w unit with all those drives in there, so it'll cost $20 a month to run.
If that doesn't bother you, server on baby.

NowThatsDamp got a reaction from TechMan2175 in Future Proof 1st Build (Ryzen/Nvidia)
No it's fine. There's not much to PC building these days. You kind of have to be an idiot to really mess it up.
Ultrawide monitors are the best. Sacrifice everything for them. Don't let any of these heathens tell you otherwise.

then why don't you do it? there's no excuse not to start right now. any smartphone that isn't a full-on potato can do good enough video to get started. editing software can be had for free (i use shotcut because it is free and multiplatform and all that). some cheap lights may be a good idea.
it's your ideas that matter most. the equippment comes second.

NowThatsDamp got a reaction from aratras in Motherboard for i7 8700k
Unless the sex appeal of the more expensive MB is worth the $100 to you, save the money. Put it into a nice pretty ultrawide display
You'll never notice the difference in day to day use. What motherboard you chose is really a visual thing; As long as a given board has all the features you will be using, it doesn't make a difference.

NowThatsDamp reacted to BluJay614 in 1440p 144hz or 4k 60hz?
The majority of people value frame/refresh rate over resolution. Display port is able to support higher refresh rates at higher resolution then HDMI is, which is why it tends to be preferred by some people, despite it being harder to find(thanks to it not being as common. As of right now(I mean what's presently on the market, not what we know is coming), 4K monitors don't go higher then 60Hz. If nothing else, I would go 1440p Ultrawide with high refresh rate for a good balance between higher rez, high refresh rate, and something that can still be easily run by the 1080ti

780ti is still the best card in the history of the world next to the 8800gtx

I feel like I already saw this??? I'm confused. Is this new?

NowThatsDamp reacted to doomsriker in Will there be upcoming budget gpu's?
Honestly I would just buy used. I have seen gtx 980s going for around 150$ on craigslist, and one of those would smoke a 1050 any day of the week. Other cards to consider would be gtx 980ti, gtx 970, R9 280, 280x, 290, 290x. HD 7970, or 7950. (Or possibly gtx 770, gtx 960, HD 6950 or 6970 but only if you find them for close to 50$ otherwise avoid them.)

My thoughts exactly on Ryzen+ to be honest. I may have gotten a Ryzen CPU, but I feel like it's gonna go similar to the FX lineup where AMD more or less stops and Intel leaves them in the dust again. But that's a post for another thread.....

NowThatsDamp got a reaction from catzambia in is it worth it? or does it even matter?
It doesn't matter. GPU overclocking is a thing of the past since GPU boost 3, they overclock themselves now. The speed they will run at is never what the box says. Take that $50 and invest it in your twitch stream instead
Also, what Evanair said.

I currently own x2 of the 1080s... I'd recommend saving up longer than the extra 50 bucks and get a TI. Much better investment.

NowThatsDamp reacted to 79wjd in is the gt 730 or 1030 any good for light 720P gaming
What CPU/GPU do you have now and what games do you play? Also for the price of a 1030 you can probably get a much more powerful 950/1050 used.

NowThatsDamp reacted to Misanthrope in EA Loses $3.1B in Stock Value in wake of Star Wars Battlefront 2 Loot Box catastrophe
Losing Disney is probably next so they can forget about them lucrative franchises.
But back on topic: This might be the beginning of a videogame crash: EA did this because they have lost all confidence in the market's ability to sustain AAA development and such a great reversal probably means they'll either try something even worst and alienate players even further, spiraling into a rapid cycle of tremendous loses and eventually making all major names default.
I'm going to call it now: next round of AAA games will do things like force always-online DRM even for single player and if it's multiplayer title to begin with they'll move it to a subscription based model or something very similar to loot boxes in a full pay-to-play scheme but for AAA releases. This will actually get far worst now.

NowThatsDamp reacted to Damascus in 1080 Ti VS Volta
Meh, the 1080 ti is fantastic, if you want a 2080 ti you’ll need to wait another 10 months minimum
