  1. I hope that this means Windows Phone, Windows on tablets, and Windows desktop will be able to communicate and sync better together. If that happens I will be all for it, but what I don't what them to do is just go Hurrdurr let's stick the windows phone ui on every thing hurrdurr. If they don't do that then this could be really good.
  2. I've tried safari (on a mac, just for the record) and didn't really like it. I will admit that I haven't tried opera so that may be something i'll try soon.
  3. Hahaha IE..... Oh wait. (In all seriousness, I've been using IE for the past month or so and it has been far better than chrome or firefox.)
  4. No real reason, just like to experiment with domain controllers and similar stuff.
  5. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008R2, as well as Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012R2 on my other computer. (I got the Windows server editions and windows 8 through dreamspark)
  6. I don't know if I am the only one but has anyone noticed that there are a lot more apple defenders than there are people bashing apple? I find the claim that "blah blah the forum doesn't like apple" to be highly inaccurate when it is used as an argument for when people point out that some apple products are not worth the money since many of the people who do that actually don't have a problem with apple as a whole. Anyways, the computer. It has a market and that is people who would have bought some hp prebuilt at walmart but instead decided to spend a bit of money on a more different computer. And for those people it works well, they don't have to worry about bloat ware, it has some nice built in editing stuff, screen isn't that bad (this isn't the 27in. model, so it isn't that great.), and they are unlikely to get virus, etc. But!... That doesn't mean that people who don't like it don't have legitimate reasons to dislike it/not recommend it. It is pretty much a fact that you can build a computer that would be better for almost everything that people who would buy this iMac would use it for.. And the reason as to why you see those people here is because that is what this forum is about, that being PC enthusiasts. (We can pretend to be "A tech forum not a PC forum" all we like, but let's not kid ourselves.) Lots of people here built their own computer for the reason that they don't want to be stuck with what system builders are offering, therefore it is obvious that there will be a lot of people who are less than pleased with the iMac. So back to the original post in order to keep this somewhat related, I think that this mac is a pretty bad value, and people would be better off buying a mac mini and a dell ips monitor for less and probably getting a better experience. Also: Apologies if any of this sounds a bit... angry/ramblish, just wanted to get my thoughts out, and I suck at formatting a post/going back to edit things. Also, not angry just... interested in the discussion that is going on in here.
  7. As for the batteries lenovo is charging 120-180ish for the batteries so that's a bit expensive, but I've bought a 3rd party battery off of amazon for my thinkpad and it was completely fine, so there definitely are cheaper options. 100% agreed on the outdated workstation point. I have a Thinkpad W500 and it is pretty much the perfect laptop I could have bought, pretty cheap at $300, it has a nice 1920x1200 screen, great build quality and good online support (from owners on forums and official support.) The only "issue" is that it is a bit heavy but I don't think I could have bought a new laptop for the same price that would have significantly lighter.
  8. I think that this may be the only viable option for him because in my experience 200 dollar tablets are usually < 10 inches so they are too small to actually do anything worth while. Also if op's friend goes this route he may have to buy a replacement battery for the laptop because used laptops generally have crap batteries (from my experience)
  9. Dell Venue 8 Pro. I use it to remote into my "server(s)". Also just general pick up and search something when my computer isn't on. Also I sometimes do steam in home streaming.
  10. Not saying that you're wrong but.... In content creation, what does apple have to offer other than Final Cut Pro? Programs like Adobe premiere (and pretty much all the other adobe programs as well), as well as Avid and Sony Vegas which are all cross platform are quite "good" to say the least. And as for your laptop, you are dismissing owning another windows laptop because of one bad experience. Your experience came from owning a consumer grade Dell, if you had bought a Lenovo Thinkpad, HP Pro/Elitebook, and Dell Latitude/precision, I can almost guarantee that your experience would have been better. Also a personal pet peeve is the build quality argument, I would argue that a Macbook uses materials that feel quite a bit better than my Thinkpad but my thinkpad still has better build quality because I can have somebody step on it and it wouldn't have any issues after.
  11. Firefox Australis. I use it because it has the best new tab page ever of any browser I have used. (Ephesis on the "I have used" there may be a better ones but this is the best one that I have found) I also use IE11 on my tablet because touch screens and stuff.
  12. Nope, hate OS X, ios is okay but not my taste. If I were to get a laptop I would get a thinkpad x1 carbon 2014 or a w540.
  13. I think that is pretty much the reason why I see so many businesses with Dell computers. One example would be my Dad's work laptop broke, and they replaced the motherboard, heatsink, ram, and LCD in about 1 day. (I think that all those parts broke to an overheating issue or something)
  14. Lol, not that surprising. Someone I know accidentally broke most of the log in servers for the university that he worked at. Mistake was the he was using a laptop touch pad and accidentally copied some files off the server or something. It was a simple mistake but it took them about 2 days to fix it.
  15. Ok, so it's shot with an iPhone... Now, did they shoot it hand held or did they use their expensive tripods and robotic camera operators? If you use good equipment you can make almost any camera look good, that's why you can still watch old movies without facedesking, that reason being that the camera doesn't shake like hell as it would have if someone shot it hand held. Edit: got to the end, yeah they are using their rigs to shoot it, though the rigs not as big as I thought they would be. And before people call me a fanboy, yes the iPhone camera is good. I have used my friends and I was quite impressed, but I don't take enough pictures in places where I don't bring my dslr to actually care and in the places I don't have a dslr and need to take a picture almost any camera would be adequate.
