Belgarathian got a reaction from sannukas0016 in FBI's Advice on Ransomware? Just Pay The Ransom!
The amount of people saying that the FBIs recommendation to pay the ransom is ridiculous... is kind of ridiculous. Depending on the severity of the infection, most businesses can't run without their IT for any significant amount of time. There are plenty of case studies showing that businesses who lose access to their IT end up in receivership depending on what is lost.

Imagine Microsoft losing all their payroll information and having their development servers encrypted. You can't afford to have the FBI investigate it for 3 months when you have overheads that will keep costing you regardless of what your staff are doing. Just pay the $1,000,000 ransom and move on.

Belgarathian reacted to SpaghettiCarbonara in First Performance Results of Radeon R9 380X Close to 290
Absolutely. I was excited by the title. The successor to the 280x (and the 7970, mind you) is almost as powerful as the 290, which was the go-to card for so many people in its day? Sounds great! No doubt it will be at a lower price or at the same price as a 280x when it launched.

Something people are forgetting is the massive performance increase Hawaii got from driver updates when they shifted it over to the manufacturing process that made it Grenada. Hell, just with a driver update, the 290x went from performing somewhere in between the 780 and the 780ti to trading blows with a 980! Driver updates! Fuckin insane. (I sometimes suspect AMD deliberately gimped the performance of Hawaii to stay competitive in the long term)
So the 390 (290) is performing a little behind the 390x, which trades blows with the 980, and the 380x is going to perform close to how the 290 did back in the day at a lower price. Then this guy comes around and says shit like:
"those hopes will be shattered soon due to the disappointing performance of the GPU."
"Judging by this, it seems as AMD continues to disappoint with its new generation GPUs especially if their performance is going to be similar to the old generation even though they are more expensive." (Even though the price has not been mentioned)
Neither his article or his source mention the price:

    Complete, unfactual bias.

    ...And his bio:

"Openly admits his dislike of all things Apple and is a complete Android fanboy. Whenever he looks at something touch enabled or VR, be prepared for a massive geek out. Loves spending his free time experimenting with various Android ROMs."   A tech writer who seems to obnoxiously brag about his bias? Into the trash it goes.Good lord I wrote too much... Sorry.

Belgarathian reacted to Vegetable in Nvidia 8600 Gts Review
Today on the test bench we have an 8600 Gts from Nvidia. It's the latest, it's the greatest, it's the 8600 Gts! It has all the latest tech including SLI and CUDA and supports GeForce Experience. It has a whopping 32 shader processing cores with an actual shader performance of 54 to power all the demanding titles at extreme resolutions including 800x600. It has an insane single slot cooler that includes a fan and some little heatsink that doesn't actually do anything! (seriously you put the fan on 100% and it screeches like a dying bird and runs exactly the same temperature as 30% fan under any load.)

    GPU:
    Core: 675mhz
    Memory: 1008mhz
    Shader: 1450mhz
    256mb Vram

    Test system:
    i5 4460
    MSI B85M E45
    16GB ADATA 1600mhz
Nvidia 8600 Gts 256mb (OEM cooler)
    Thermaltake TR2 600w Bronze
NZXT S340 (white) with added 2x140mm intakes for maximum airflow

I decided doing the testing inside a case would give us the most realistic results as you guys won't be running your PC's on a test bench 24/7 when you game.

Pretty solid results. Your eyes see in 240p 24hz so these numbers mean nothing. These are 100% playable. But what if you overclock?

    OC specs:

    Conlusion:
The 8600 Gts is a solid card. It runs hot, and is loud as fuck. BUT it does actually overclock well and gets noticeable gains from doing so. It only needs a single 6 pin PCIe power connector so there's no cable clutter and it's single slot. If you SLI the performance to be had is ungodly and if you can afford the insane price tag, I recommend it. I give it 8/8 I r8 gr8 m8.
