  1. You have only 165mm cooler clearance which means that most big tower coolers will be right against the panel. The NH-D15 will literally be touching the glass panel so that's probably a no. The dark rock pro 4 will leave you a few mm gap. If you want something that isn't as massive as these two but still performs exceptionally well, look at the Scythe Fuma 2.
  2. Ah that's fair enough. For me, it's around £100 less unless I go for a Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super which is just a no. Their cards since the 1000 series haven't been great due to bad fan control
  3. It's hard to say for every generation, but generally they will be equivalent performance for the model up, so 2070=3060 ROUGHLY. Prices have gone up and with the covid-19 pandemic, it's even worse. Have you thought about a 5700 XT? I actually bought a 2070 super but am returning this for a 5700 XT because the price increase for the few fps is not justifiable to me. It'll also sting less if I want to buy a new card (whether that's Nvidia's 3XXX series or AMD's Big NavI)
  4. If you need it now, buy it now. If you wait for the next best thing in tech, you'll always be waiting. It's hard to tell what the delta will be like, everything is based on rumours, but based on past history one can assume the 3060 will be equivalent or better to the 2070, the 3070 equivalent or better to the 2060. How much better is anybody's guess.
  5. I may have potentially found another fix aside from fan curves. It looks like by default Nvidia Control Panel sets the power management mode to optimal power, meaning high GPU clock speeds at idle/low performance tasks, meaning higher temps during idle/low performance. You can change this: Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3d settings > Scroll to Power Management Mode and set to "Adaptive". I've tested this only for 20 mins or so just now but it looks promising with my GPU not hitting more than 42c on idle/basic tasks (browser open, youtube video playing, facebook, steam open but no games running, etc). The fans kick in at 53-55c so I'm a good 10c clear of that. Before this change it would hover over 52-53c hence the revving. I'd suggest you try this out, close afterburner (so that the fan curves don't run) and see how it is. Maybe we can use fan stop mode without the annoying revving after all? Edit: Slowly went up to 53c but it's not revving, fan is just on. Your mileage may vary tho
  6. I bought the Phanteks P400A for my new build. This case came with 3 RGB fans at the front. Initially I had no plans to use an AIO in this build but due to the width of this case, I don't have enough CPU clearance for the big air coolers (NH-D15, DRP3, etc). I think my easiest solution for great cooling after oc'ing is to go for an AIO cooler. However the P400A only has support for a front rad (240mm-360mm). If I were to go the AIO route, would the 3 RGB fans included with the case be suitable for radiator mounting? I wouldn't assume they're static pressure but not sure if this makes a difference. I can't find an awful lot about these stock fans either so wondering if anybody has tried this?
  7. Thanks for the tips. I always update the bios a few weeks after release to ensure system stability
  8. Yeah I'm looking at that cooler but also considering something more beefy like the Scythe Fuma 2. I want watercooling but only have front support and would have to take out my stock RGB fans on my p400a and they look pretty sick
  9. My room is eerily silent at times and my pc is really close to me so I hear it somewhat. Hopefully when I get my new desk and move the pc away 30-40cm it should be somewhat less noticeable. I hate fan noise Edit: In fairness though, the cpu cooler noise is probably what I'm hearing the most.. Should really upgrade my amd wraith prism
  10. Thermals look okay although not decent for an airflow case. Have you considered the Phanteks p400a? It's around $15 more and was given case of the year by Gamers Nexus who focuses on thermals. I have it and love it. Only niggly bit is no top radiator support and beefy air coolers like the dark rock pro 4/nh-d15 will be a tight fit.
  11. I read an article a few weeks ago about installing the AMD Chipset Drivers and setting the power plan to Ryzen Balanced to reduce core voltage at idle. I'm now doing more research into this as my core voltages still spike to 1.45-1.5vv at idle, and have noticed there are posts dating back to late 2018/early 2019 saying not to use the Ryzen Balanced Power plan. I'm running a 3700x on an x570 motherboard. Do I need to be using the ryzen power plan, or installing the AMD chipset drivers at all? What benefits do they give me? It seems there's a lot of conflicting information here so I'm getting very confused and any help is much appreciated. Is it normal to have upwards of 1.5v of core voltage at idle? It makes the idle temps toasty
  12. Glad to hear it's working now. Albeit not an amazing workaround because it's still somewhat audible at 40% but I'd take this over the fans revving constantly any day.
  13. This is strange. I've managed to set a fan curve via MSI Afterburner that I'm running at startup: So mines starts at 37% and goes up after 60c. Try these settings, and if they don't work, try something higher than 40% - say 45%. Failing that, I'd possibly RMA as it should be able to run fine at 40%. Let me know if you need any further information.
  14. If your monitor only has a VGA connector then you can get VGA to HDMI cables.
  15. Hi, Looking to buy the following ram: https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/bl2k8g36c16u4bl 3600 Mhz at CAS16 so looks solid for the price. I'm returning my hyperx fury which is 3200 Mhz at CAS 16, mostly because it literally does not work with Aura Sync except for static modes. Has anybody got experience with this crucial ram and Aura Sync and can confirm or not whether it works?
  16. Yep pretty much the reply "Set fans to above 40%"... annoying.
  17. Oh those are pretty nice temps for F@H. I like your radiator/fan setup - thought it would look odd with the radiator but you can't notice it! Air cooler or AIO now... decisions decisions. Rocked a dark rock pro 3 for so many years and it performed nice and was silent, but water cooling looks niiiicee.
  18. I think my cpu fan curves were a little on the softer side because the stock cooler was too loud. I've managed to adjust them to get 40c~ idle which I'm happy with. Time to find a new cooler, this shits loud
  19. Yeah it is a bit high. I'm going to test with d.o.c.p disabled tomorrow, and possibly re-mount the cooler again but thinking about just going aftermarket tbh. Does the phanteks p400a front look weird with a radiator and stand-alone fan? Do you have a picture by any chance? I was going to get a 360mm radiator to avoid that
  20. Nah this is a latch system unlike the older ones. I'll revert d.o.c.p and do a load test and check temps. Damn that is low idle temps - what's your fan setup like? Yeah, tightened the screws when re-mounting earlier.
  21. You're not being condescending at all! I appreciate the help. 1. I applied a pea-sized amount as I'd normally have applied with intel's consumer cpu's 2. The stock heatsink is a clip/latch system with no screwing in needed 3. Voltage is stock as per bios' optimised defaults 4. I did not - I thought D.O.C.P only affected the RAM? 5. Yep - latest bios. Just for reference what kind of temps do you get at idle and at load (also what do you use to test load temperatures?). Is your case fan setup similar to mine? Cheers!
  22. I've re-seated the heatsink and applied some more capable thermal compound. 45-50c idle and 80c+ in games (CS:GO for example gets up to 82c). This is unchanged since applying new compound. I have a p400a which is a well ventilated case - 3 front stock fans and 2 silent wings for exhaust. Using Ryzen Master but MSI Afterburner in game for the OSD.
