  1. I've run into this issue which occurs a few times a week whereby I'd be watching Youtube (maybe with Discord or something open in the background) i.e. very little load. My monitors would immediately go blank and the GPU fans spin at 100% but I can still hear sound from Youtube. The only way to fix this is power off from the PSU and power back on. This also happens when gaming but it doesn't really seem to matter what the GPU/CPU load is (I'm assuming GPU is the culprit here).

I have an overclock of 120MHz core clock and 900MHz memory clock (down from 130Mhz and 950MHz respectively which ran stable for hours on TimeSpy/Unigine Superposition/Furmark). But I don't think this OC is the issue because when on youtube I don't even hit high GPU clocks at all (it's around 650MHz). Temperatures also seem to be fine for both GPU and CPU.

Any help/tips for further troubleshooting would be appreciated. I've removed the OC for my GPU for now and my CPU isn't OC'd at all. Memory is running at D.O.C.P profiles and has passed Memtest86 run.

    Specs:

    Ryzen 7 3700x

    Asus ROG Strix X570-F

MSI Gaming X Trio 2070 Super

    Crucial 2x8gb 3600MHz RAM

Corsair RM750x (fairly new, the issue also happened with my older EVGA G2)/

  2. I have an Asus X570-F motherboard and just updated the bios from 2207 to 2608 as this has added GPU support. I've set the exact same bios settings which include some fan curve changes and setting the D.O.C.P profile.

This now causes crackling audio from any source, whether it's on Chrome or any other application. I've found that configuring my D.O.C.P settings manually but dropping the frequency from 3600Mhz to 3466Mhz fixes this issue. Although it's a minor drop it's not really desirable.

The D.O.C.P settings are: 3600Mhz at 16-18-18-18-38 timings @1.350V. All other voltages have been left intact.

I initally thought this was something to do with SOC/VDDP settings as I read online but I've tried tweaking these to suggested amounts and this just causes sporadic shutdowns/doesn't even fix the issue. it could be that I have set the wrong voltages as this was based on MSI's bios which renames things slightly different.

For what it's worth mentioning, this issue occurs with all bios updates after 2207. Again, lowering the frequency or setting it to Auto fixes this.

    Specs:

    Ryzen 7 3700X

    Asus X570-F Gaming motherboard

    Crucial Ballistix RGB 2x8gb @ 3600mhz

MSI Gaming X Trio 2070 Super

    Corsair RM750X Psu

Any help would be much appreciated.

    sometimes updating bios clears it

is the timing you set different from DOCP or the same? try DOCP if it's the same

    if something shorted, you'll know

though idk if it's a PSU issue since it's intermittent and debug LED is consistently at CPU or RAM

which makes me suspect a bad connection with the CPU

The timing I set is the same as DOCP.

Okay fair enough - I don't think I've ever had anything short so not sure what it looks like (I guess it wouldn't turn on at all).

I don't think it's a PSU issue either. I just got the rm750x today and this also happened on my evga g3.

Possibly a bad connection with the CPU but I'm also thinking it might be my GPU now... I touched one of the 8 pin connections and voila the PC shut down with the same issue. I think it's possibly a bad extension (as mentioned I changed PSU's so also changed the GPU cable but I have extensions which remain the same). Curious why this would cause the RAM or CPU debug to go on until it's pushed in properly though..

I've taken that extension out, got some canned air to make sure there's no dust and now made sure it's secure. Wiggling it doesn't shut the PC down now, so not sure if it's causation or correlation here..

did u set it after updating bios?

    could be, or it's unstable

I've had it set that way since building this PC. I did have a set of G.Skill's which I returned in favour for this set (cheaper and faster - 3200 vs 3600).

I actually just double checked the QVL list and the memory I have is listed (slightly different serial, but same brand, speed, die-type, timings, voltage) so it's not a compatibility issue. I wonder if it's worthwhile me trying to downgrade to a previous BIOS if it happens again. I've also confirmed the RAM is properly latched and all other PSU cables are also clipped in tightly as I'm curious if its a power issue or something shorting

  5. 2 minutes ago, Moonzy said:

did u try reseating the cpu?

I haven't because I thought if that were the issue it would happen way more often and it only happens maybe once a week. The wraith prism is also a pain to take off/re-mount

FWIW I think it started after updating my bios to 2207 now that I think about it but not 100% sure about that.

I wonder if this could be because it's something as simple as my RAM not being latched properly hence why it normally always works when taking it out/putting it back in

  6. I've been intermittently having issues where my PC would randomly shut down, and when switching it back on everything will power up (including RAM's leds) but the motherboard debug LED would either be stuck at the RAM led or the CPU led. My motherboard speaker would make the usual 1 short beep so nothing out the blue there.

    My specs are:

    Mobo: Asus RoG Strix X570-F

    CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

RAM: Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600MHz C16

GPU: MSI Gaming X Trio 2070 Super

    Cooler: stock AMD Wraith Prism

    PSU: Corsair RM750X

The RAM isn't listed in the QVL for my mobo, but reviews online suggested others with Asus motherboards had no issues. I'm not sure what the cause of this is but the fix is to normally take out my RAM and insert it back in. This works most of the time but not always.

For what it's worth, my CPU or RAM are not overclocked, I'm not running XMP profile, instead I've set the values manually. I've also ran Memtest86 for 8 passes and it showed no issues.

Then maybe the thermal paste on the stock cooler is bad? Not like the cooler is that good from the beginning

I think I'll upgrade to a better cooler. Maybe a NH-U12S or Arctic Freezer 34 Duo (I hate the thermal paste application on this cooler though). FWIW I did remove the stock thermal paste and apply my own MX-5 (not that this is the best thermal paste around but surely better than stock).

I assume the GPU temp differences from reviewers are because they test it on an open bench.

I'm just wondering if I can justify the £15 for the 1c~ temp changes for the top fan. I guess as long as it doesn't have any negative impacts then it's not the worst, but I expected slightly better temps with the top exhaust.

  8. 6 minutes ago, Jurrunio said:

Yup. I assume all fans are at max speed, top and back are exhausts?

Yes, they all hit max at 65c. Top and back are exhausts. Front 3 are intake obviously. I've retested over a longer test and it's a 3c GPU difference and 2-3c CPU difference with the side panel off, which really isn't that massive. I assume a little bit of difference is to be expected with the side panel off?

I've taken the top fan off and ran a CPU stress test and CPU average increased by about 0.7c, so there is a little bit of benefit in that fan, but not much. This fan is above and slight to the left of the CPU cooler so there should be no negative impact with it (i.e. exhausting fresh cold air like the front top would have done)

  9. 10 hours ago, Jurrunio said:

Just take the side panel of the case out. If it still gets hot, your case fans arent the ones to.blame

Both GPU and CPU get quite a bit cooler with the side panel off (4c and 8c respectively), which means the case fans are to blame in that case?

    9 hours ago, LogicalDrm said:

GPU is normal, CPU is on the higher side. What CPU cooler do you have?

It's the stock wraith prism RGB cooler. I'm looking to upgrade it to a smaller mid-sized cooler but still surprisingly high.

    9 hours ago, Jeppes said:

Easy to try without the roof fans is it not?

Yeah I suppose it is. I was more asking of a general consensus of whether or not the top fan is advised or not

  10. I purchased the Phanteks P400A-D case based on GamersNexus reviews on thermals. As well as the 3 stock fans in the front, I've bought a Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 (120mm) for the rear exhaust and a Shadow Wings 2 for top rear exhaust - the top front slot is empty.

I'm getting quite poor temperatures all around - CPU temps are 45-55c on idle, 75-80c whilst gaming, GPU temps are 5c higher than benchmarks I've seen (70-72c whilst gaming).

The fan curves are fairly aggressive for all fans - they ramp up to 100% at 70c gpu/CPU respectively

    The important specs:

    Ryzen 7 3700x

MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming Trio X (not vertically mounted FWIW)

    Asus ROG Strix X570-F

    Wraith Prism RGB Cooler

    Phanteks P400A-D Case

EVGA G3 power supply (eco mode OFF)

Is there anything I can do to improve my fan setup? Is my top rear fan necessary?

    Any tips are appreciated.

  11. I'm looking to get some G. SKill Trident Z 3466Mhz C16 RAM as there's a good deal on it. I know it's not the fastest but it is faster than my 3200 Mhz C16 HyperX Fury RAM and a bit cheaper also. The main reason I want to return the hyperx fury and get G Skill is because the RGB on the HyperX fury doesn't sync with Asus Aura as advertised. The increased speeds for cheaper on the G Skill are just a nice plus.

The memory isn't on the QVL list. Should I be concerned about being able to run it at its advertised speeds/timings?

  12. I see in ProgramData that I have Log_Backup1 files that keep getting re-created for what looks like my Nvidia drivers:

    7e4c0f32ea479737603338216c8423e4.png

Does anybody else with an Nvidia have these (C:\ProgramData) and know what they're for? The files can get pretty massive and it's annoying.

    Cheers

Last week I purchased the 5700 XT Saphire Pulse Edition.

So far I haven't really had a lot of problems. I upgraded from a R9 270, and had a 300% increase in FPS in the Shadow of the Tomb Raiders Benchmark.

It's a great card. The only issues I've had with the AMD Adrenaline driver is when using features like Anti-Lag etc. They're still pretty experimental and caused frequent micro stutters for me. If you ever experience anything like that, you should check which AMD settings you have activated.

One of the big reason's I went for the 5700XT is because in Europe, the Saphire Pulse edition only cost 390 Euro's. The AMD interface is 1000 times better than NVIDIA's in my opinion as well. You can overclock, show any gpu or cpu stats as an overlay in game, and tweak game settings.

Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend this card, especially since a lot of the driver issues have been fixed in the newest update.

Thanks for your reply, that's helpful. Was Anti-lag the only culprit in settings or are there others I should be careful about?

Do you use freesync or multiple monitors with different refresh rates? I've heard this can be iffy and can't seem to find many reports with the latest drivers.

  14. I've returned my current Gigabyte windforce 2070 super card due to horrible fan issues.

I now have my mind set on either:

    1) Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT special Edition (~£450) - 3 year warranty vs the red devil's 2, better customer support from what I can see - the extra £20 is justifiable I think, plus comes with 3 ARGB fans which sell for £30 alone.

    2) PowerColor Red Devil 5700XT (£420-£430)  - poorer VRAM cooling and little more noise but can likely overclock better due to more VRM's

    3) MSI 2070 Super Gaming X Trio (£570~) - every reviewer says this is the quietest 2070 super with great cooling so hopefully don't have the fan issues the gigabyte had.

I'm quite set on the Sapphire Nitro+ for £120 less, but the thing that concerns me the most is driver issues. I know that the 2070 Super just works. If I spend 20+ hours working out driver issues, that £120 premium suddenly doesn't seem so bad given the slightly better performance also. If I were paying £120 ONLY for performance, the 5700xt would be a no brainer, but I also do need to factor in technical support time.

Does anybody still suffer from any issues after the AMD 20.2.2. drivers?

Furthermore, is it likely we'll see even better performance from the 5700 XT as the drivers improve, possibly closing the gap between the 5700XT and 2070 Super?

I've never owned an AMD card so am not sure what to expect at all, and would really like to make an informed decision here.

Edit: 5700 xt currently has a promotion whereby I get resident evil 3, monster hunter and 3 months of games pass so thats what? £80?

are you OCing your GPU at all or just stock settings?

i currently have an EVGA RTX 2070 super FTW3 ultra+ and no fans on at all. but i am also running at stock everything with out touching a thing on the program other than to turn the RGB on and off.

i would suggest that you try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to see if that is the issue or update them to the newest ones.

Have tried that. This is a widely known and reported issue I guess and it can so easily be fixed with a bios update. Some of Gigabytes cards have had bios updates to address this but not mine and when asking Gigabyte support, it looks like there was no scope for this.

That is very odd and i am sorry you are having issues with your 2070S.

My Aorus has not done this though it is an AMD one.

Aorus doesn't suffer from the issue because AFAIK they had bios updates really early on to address this.

Sucks that happened, i have the same card but non super and it doesn't do that at all

Likewose above, the non super version also had a bios update to improve the fan issues, so I assume your card has this bios flashed.

It sucks that the Super variant of the windforce cards don't have new bioses. The card isn't exactly new now... Bios updates for the non super was released in Feb 2019.

  16. I'm returning my Gigabyte Windforce OC 3X 2070 Super because of an annoying fan revving issue (see

It seems like this is an issue for quite a lot of GPUs that use 0db fan mode. Has anybody got any experience with any 2070/2070 Supers/2080/2080 Supers where the fan just works? Where it doesn't rev up and down if your GPU is hovering over the limit, and there's no other known issues with fans? I'm contemplating either the MSI Gaming Trio X or the Asus RoG Strix but have heard that even the latter has issues with one fan failing to stop spinning after going below the temperature threshold.

Another issue with the gigabyte card was setting a custom fan curve didn't allow me to set a fan speed below 40% - the fan would just rev up and down again, assuming because this is too low a speed for the fans. Has anybody managed to run one of the RTX cards at a lower fan speed, say 10-20%?

Would appreciate some others share their experience to help me make an informed decision on my purchase.

I didn't really pay attention to the temps lately since I put in all the case fans.  When I added the CPU cooler I moved a top fan to be for the GPU.   The GPU is running a lot cooler now as well with the optimal setting turned on.

Right now my GPU is sitting at a nice cool temperature of 32c.

I am not sure of the number of fans in your case, but mine are configured with 3 fans up front for intake, 2 fans for exhaust - 1 on back and 1 on top.   I am using a 5 pack of arctic P12 pwm pst (iirc).

Thanks for the tip though.  I will keep that in mind if my GPU temps get up there again.

Same fan setup as yours. Mine also runs at 32c when my fans are running at 40%, but this tip was mostly for if you want the stick with the fan-off mode.

i mean, if it's got the issues they pointed out resolved i don't see why not but frankly i'd rather take the red dragon anyway

Okay. I guess the red dragon and sapphire nitro are well reviewed so may as well spend the extra for a product I know is good. I've found a sapphire nitro for around the same price as the red devil so I guess at that stage, it's just what looks good right?

I feel that Sapphire have better customer support though, and their TriXX software looks cool

Thicc has a very choking cooler on it - GNSteve did an excellent review (of all 3 perhaps, iirc).

Red Devil and Nitro+ are two very good cards. Since the RD is a bit cheaper, you might as well go for that one

i'll update this comment if i can find the video i'm looking for

The review Steve from GN did was for the Thicc II, which yes was terrible. But the Thicc III was given a design overhaul and I don't think Steve has reviewed that one

  20. Have returned my Gigabyte 2070 super because of a really poor fan implementation, and the next decent AIB card is a good £80 over, so I'm going to take this opportunity to just buy a 5700 XT which I should have done in the first place. The main thing that put me off was driver issues, but it looks like most of this has been fixed now?

I'm struggling to find info that compares the 3 (can find info that compares the Red Devil and Nitro+ easily). They're 3 different price points:

    Thicc iii - £390

    Red devil - £428

    Nitro+ £441

Does anybody have any experience with the Thicc III and would recommend it? I'm looking for something ideally with good 0db fan implementation (or just really silent fans?) because fan noise bothers me.

Any advice between the 3 is much appreciated.
