Grinners reacted to TimeOmnivore in Calls for Twitch to police 'sexual streaming'
I'll never comprehend what people's issue with this type of thing is. If it offends you, or you just don't want to watch it - just watch something else, it's not difficult. And, like someone else said, if a kid wants to see that kind of stuff, it's just as easy, if not easier, to simply hit the "Yes, I'm 18" button on sites like PornHub or the various adult Cam sites. If they want to watch it, they will, and if you, as a parent, don't want them to... well. I'd say give up (waste of time), but if you really want to stop them, don't give them unfiltered access to the internet and keep an eye on what they're doing. Stop going around saying stuff like, "Won't somebody please think of the children"; that excuse is overused and annoying.

As for the advertising angle, why can't Twitch have two different categories: one for advertisers who don't care what their ads are on and one for family-friendly advertisers who don't want their ads on adult content (whether it be the streamer or the game). Speaking of which, why do people not care if a game has breasts/nudity in it (such as The Witcher 3), but suddenly get all up in arms when it's the streamers - who are showing cleavage at best. Isn't that what the whole "Meant for Mature Audiences" thing Twitch has if for? Just use that for the streamers themselves as well.

I don't understand why the last 6 months has seen such a change in video style.

Linus always said their growth has been steady, so why change to this juvenile style? Were subscriptions dropping or something?

Maybe i have just gotten too old... but that can't be it as the older videos were objectively different.

Is the new style working? Are subscriptions dramatically increasing now?

Grinners got a reaction from Mr.Meerkat in Sony Loses Class Action Lawsuit on the waterproofness of their Z series phones/tablets
On the topic of other phones;  I'd argue that water resistant actually gives you a less accurate impression of the capability of most phones than water proof.

I know technically water proof is not achieved by phones but to the average consumer I'd say water resistant gives them the impression of "can survive a light rain'....

Maybe a term somewhere in the middle would be more appropriate.

What blanket rule would you have wanted? For example would a 10 minute video with a 1 second reaction at the end be fair use? You can't claim that all reaction videos are fair use. It will always be a case by case basis but with legal findings like this more guidelines are established.

There's no such dichotomy, and i would urge you to reconsider why you would assume i would outline minorities as less qualified in a post criticizing the idea somebody's ethnicity or gender would have any relevance to their qualifications in a workplace like this.

I'm also not betraying my point at all, you're misinterpreting what i'm saying, i never said the difference is always huge but the fact you would go with someone that's not the best on your roster over somebody who is based on race/sex is the problem i'm outlining and in fact gave such an example where being a minority would be something that would hold you back if discriminatory hiring practices based on race/sex are accepted, despite the fact you may have been the best for the job. It's a two-way street.

What the fuck makes you think i as an indigenous man would be better qualified than Todd, white dude, in programming, nuclear engineering, or mathematics? Heterogenous work culture? Do you fetishize people like me that much that you actually look at us that differently? That's disgusting. To believe that the value a company sees in me as the hopes that i'm some fucking stereotypical Feather-in-Hair Indian who's going to somehow fix a line of code by thinking back to my upbringing and the thoughts of the old myths i learned as a child from my culture will give me a radical idea where i'll be able to find an answer from "The Eagle spirit". Get the fuck out of here with that racist bullshit that's only meant to make me an "other" instead of an individual.

Workplace harassment isn't solely restricted to men or white people, the fact you just painted a picture of women being uncomfortable around male drivers in regards to ridesharing as something a business should try to pander to while white people being uncomfortable around black drivers isn't something to pander to is a ridiculous double-standard. If you're going to be a racist/sexist who refuses to ride with somebody of one group or holds prejudice to somebody a group then at least be consistent, and don't bullshit by pretending that the piss you served me is any different from the piss you served the guy 3 tables over. If you're about making racists/sexists more comfortable, then don't pretend you're noble by disavowing racist/sexist from the other side.

You're either going to treat me as an equal human being or you're not going treat me as an equal human being.

Grinners reacted to Skanky Sylveon in Worse Noctua fan quality after moving production to China
I was mainly referring to this image.

Relax, i'm not saying that Noctua is shit now.  I'm just saying that I expected tighter manufacturing tolerances from a company with a reputation such as Noctua.
And that Noctua isn't the only premium fan manufacturer out there, so even if there is a difference, I will just buy something else.

    Edit:
It's the small differences that separates the good products from the great products.
And it's the even smaller differences that separates the great products from the superb products.

I've always considered Noctua to make superb products, and while there will probably be little to no difference in performance between the two fans, I expect tighter manufacturing tolerances from a superb product.

As someone who was playing on their first family PC in 1994, it amazes me how slowly cpu's are progressing these days.

I got back into Pc's about 3 years ago. The CPU i got at the time was a 4690... 4 core 3.5/3.9ghz....

3 years later mainstream CPU's are barely better... maybe a 15% improvement? (4.5ghz turbo on the 7700k - albeit with HT).

Back in the day you'd be wanting a CPU bordering on an order of magnitude better before you upgraded!

I guess it's a sign of the times

Grinners reacted to bimmerman in Oculus Rift price slashed again amid concerns over sales
I could afford it before, I can afford it more so now. My issue is there hasn't been a compelling enough set of games to justify $800 on the Vive/Rift headset/controllers on top of another $1500 in PC components for a new build on top of ~$200 in games to play (who is going to buy the hardware just for one $50 game?)

That's $2500. That's an awful lot of money to come up with to go from a 'can play most games enjoyably now' system (that struggles to play a friend's Vive) to a 'can play VR games at max settings at max Hz' like I would be interested in.

Hard pass from me at this point. Maybe once Fallout/Skyrim/etc come out in VR I'd be interested again, but the games I've seen and my friends have bought seem a lot more like tech demos than things worth paying money for.

It is mind boggling that a company as big as AMD is so bad at communicating/marketing/customer-relations.

So much of this bad press could be almost entirely avoided by just being upfront and honest. Something like "the gaming drivers are still being produced so at the moment it is only really UI changes. More to come shortly!"

They'd be paying multiple PR/Marketing people hundreds of thousands in combined salaries and they can't even do this???

Actually you're right. I'm an idiot.
AMD "only" needs to sell a higher percentage than they currently hold. It would be interesting to know what percentage that is though. I would not be surprised if it's lower than the 19% the Steam survey shows considering that Intel is so dominant in laptops and offices.

To clarify; a company that sells 1/10th of a product will increase it's market share if it sells 2/10ths of a product. Its competitor can still sell 8/10ths of the product (and therefore 'sell more').

It's the % change that matters, not who sells more, that leads to market share changes.
