    Summary
Gamersnexus followed up on a LinkedIn post by a former employee of EK Waterblocks and uncovered significant problems within the company:
    - Employee wages not paid on time
    - Business allowances not paid or not paid on time
    - Pressure from EK management to employees to sign inferior contracts (e.g. removing sales dividends)
    - Suppliers not paid on time
    - US branch and HQ (Solvenia) fighting each other to the point where the US branch sourced some items from the supply chain instead of ordering them from HQ
    - excessive inventory (of some SKUs) binding capital/liquidity
    - EK has fired some manager(s)
    - EK is confident that it can resolve the current liquidity crisis.

Roku has filed a patent for a system to display ads on the TV screen when a pause has been detected from the HDMI output. It could even detect what kind of content is being outputted so it can serve the user more targeted adds

I can see uses in the technology to detect pauses in the HDMI output, like turning of the TV after a few minutes to save power or to show a screensaver to prevent burn-in on OLED TVs. It is kinda sad that even when you just want to pause something on the TV Roku immediately whant to shove ads down your throat.

Nearly 20 years after the debut of LiMux, the project where the city of Munich, as well as Lower Saxony, migrated the majority of their computer systems from Microsoft Windows to a custom Linux distribution before being cancelled in 2017, someone else is now ready to take on the challenge. This time, it's the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Citing the goals of independence, sustainability, and security, the state is planning on migrating its 30,000 computers to Linux and other open source software.

This is a huge win for consumer rights. Companies should never have been able to hide pricing for anything and hopefully these labels will minimize hidden fee's. This has been a long time coming with the original plan made in 2022 and I'm glad it is finally implemented.
I also want to add that the fact that they need to display these like a food label is also just slightly hilarious.

let me translate that for you:

apple has stopped binding components to devices by serial number, using some false pretense about calibration profiles to avoid facing regulatory backlash for actively blocking any sort of repairability of their devices.

you cannot get legitimate parts to repair apple devices without agreeing to horrendous agreements designed to put repair shops out of business.

on top of that, the stolen phones argument is complete BS here. no one is stealing phones to harvest their battery and display.

DededeKirby reacted to LAwLz in Microsoft makes it even harder to change your default browser
The idea that this is to comply with the DMA doesn't make much sense. The DMA, if anything, would require them to make it easier to change the browser. Not harder.

This is just Microsoft trying to block programs from making it easy for users to change their default browser. They want it to require as many clicks as possible.
Firefox and Brave found a way to set themselves as the default without having to go through the defaults app settings page (where Microsoft asks you multiple time if you are reeeally sure you don't want Edge as the default). Instead in Firefox and Brave you just had to click, inside the programs, "set this as my default browser", similar to how it worked before Windows 10.
Microsoft doesn't want to make it easy for users to change. They will say that they do it for security reasons, but that is bullshit. They time and time again try and make it hard to change. Even if there was some legitimacy to their security argument (which I personally don't think there is), it's pretty clear that security isn't their driving motivator. It's control and making people use Edge (and Bing) that is.

It is probably too soon to know what effects this will have on the tech sector.  Thankfully this 7.5 magnitude quake hit Taiwan which has high building standards and an economy that can meet those standards in practice. The buildings being strong enough to not totally collapse likely saved a great many lives.  Compare to the Quake which greatly damaged Por Au Prince Haiti some time ago which was about the same magnitude.  Well-built modern structures stood but a great many did not live in such structures.

Vibration and shaking is probably not good for precision Manufacuring equipment or for things that were in production at that moment.   This likely won't be some big systemic effect.  I really hope it won't be.  I would not be surprised if there weren't some defective parts in the supply chain for a while.

First AT&T had the major service outage, and now a massive breach of personal data. While the data is speculated to be from 2021, it is unknown how far back the data extends, so customers who switched form AT&T back in 2018 (Hi, hello, its me) could still be affected. Admittedly I was part of a family plan so my SSN should be safe(r).

As a reminder, using both a 2FA app like Google Authenticator as well as a Password manager are some of the best ways you can protect yourself in the digital world we now live in, which feels almost inevitable that our data will be at some point compromised.

Negative opinions on it always seem to just miss the point hard. its not there to try to beat ryzen, its just there to see how hard you can push it. Competition literally does not mater here. I dont even understand the "dont recommend" statements like that needs to be explicitly said. no one asking the question of what PC to buy is even looking at that budget, the same way you dont recommend a porshe 918.

DededeKirby reacted to creat0r in Apple’s new “Why Upgrade - See What You’re Missing” page
    Summary
Apple has created a page on their websites where the user enters their current iPhone model and gets a list of reasons to upgrade to the 15-series. Interestingly, currently only the 11- or 12-series are selectable. The user then picks one of four iPhone 15-series models, and the list is generated with reasons to upgrade. It’s similar to the older “Compare” feature, but this new page only shows the differences.

    My thoughts
Honestly I feel like Apple is getting a bit desperate to get users to buy new products, the title screams of desperation of wanting to give users FOMO. I’m a big tech nerd who usually wants the best, but my iPhone 12 Pro Max from 2020 is still serving me great. I know a lot of users are feeling the same way (maybe not on this forum though): that their smartphone is good enough - so why upgrade? If Apple made product that was innovative and revolutionary for real, then they wouldn’t need a list with all the subtle differences for the average user. My conspiracy theory is that the old “Compare” tool showed how much each “new” generation had in common with the previous generations, and that’s why they want to hide it and only display the differences. Also, wanting to give users FOMO by using their devices that are just a few years old is VERY hypocritical considering all their environmental focus.

Even if verfication can be fooled it's still better than sitting around just watching it happen and not even trying to stop it somehow.

Florida Govenor Ron DeSantis passed a new law banning people under the age of 14 from using social media with the reasoning that it is heavily addictive and the young people don't understand what they are getting into.
This legislation, called HB 3, is the same legislation that is requiring age verification for sexually explicit websites.

I think all of this new legislation has the right heart and people under 14 100% should NOT be on social media. There are so many scammers and child predators that are just waiting for kids like these to fall for their schemes.
That said, I think the age verification is a TERRIBLE idea. Not because verifying age is bad in order to get on these websites, but it 100% could get hacked.
