Xaring got a reaction from da na in Changing thermal pads on RTX 2080 Super Gigabyte
Pretty sure that what you want to change is your thermal *paste*, the pads are really really durable, you only need to change them if they break during maintenance.

Search for the ones with the highest conductivity, or whichever fit 🙂
Also, don't buy a 100x100 sheet. You wanna get a pack with different thicknesses (normally ranging from 0.5 to 2mm, as they are the most common, its weird to find 3mm ones used)
I bought a pack of 5 sets like 3 or 4 years ago and i've still got 2 laying around.

Regarding thermal paste, i'd recommend Artic-MX5 or Noctua NT-H2.

Edit: Also, its fine for GPUs to run hot, they literally boost themselves to the limit. Just remember to give it a nice clean/dusting every once in a while.

Xaring reacted to LogicalDrm in PC Games will shorten your computer's life?
Using any electrical or mechanical equipment will shorten its life compared to not using it. The talk about "will X shorten lifespan" is pointless, and usually gives you wrong idea of what "lifespan" means.

Life of PC hardware on average is 7 years. They can easily work over 10 years on active use and still work after 20-30 years of occasional use. Usually you are looking for upgrades before you even get close to end of life (note also that actual end of life and EOL stated aren't same thing, latter means end of the support from manufacturer). Does using PC hardware in normal environment and use shorten expected life of the components? No. Do extreme environmental issues or uncommon use shorten expected life?  Possibly. It is sensitive hardware compared to your fridge for example.

In your situation, you are dealing with unstable and/or "dirty" electrical grid. That's not common situation. Your use of the hardware is. So environmental issues have much higher effect than use of the hardware. Good thing is that, as said, you can do something. The purpose of UPS is to allow controlled shutdown or continue operations over short power cuts. But it also cleans incoming power fluctuations, preventing spikes that would kill PSUs and the more sensitive components.

Editing and specially rendering are way more demanding and will burn out components way quicker than most gaming loads. Only AAA most-innovative titles (lets say, like Cyberpunk) are demanding enough to be compared to rendering.

Having blackouts while rendering is waaaaaaaaay worse than a blackout while gaming. You risk corrupting your project files and losing hours of rendered content.

During blackouts, your drives (HDDs and SSDs) are the weakest part, your PSU could also suffer quite a bit due to it.

You should really invest in an UPS 😛 - Even a small one will be infinitelly better than not having one.

intel  fan specification pdf : https://www.google.com/search?q=intel+fan+specification+pdf

First result is this : 4_Wire_PWM_Spec.pdf

Also, it doesn't matter.   You can control by adjusting voltage or by limiting current, if you don't have the 4th pwm wire.

Also, figure out what you want to do, gather your questions, make a longer post / thread. Explain what you're trying to do.. because out of context people may give you some answers that won't apply to you, or you're asking the wrong questions and other easier solutions may be available.

You should open it up and give it a good cleanup.

Also, having a clean windows install wouldn't be a bad idea.

Xaring got a reaction from Freakwise in Why there are not many PCIe Gen 4 add-in cards available yet?
Gen 4 has a incredibly large bandwidth and its somewhat complex to implement (both board and card side).
Unless the device needs the extra bandwidth, like GPUs or NVME SSDs, theres no point in having the extra complexity for literally no benefit.

You should really save up a bit more and get something like this:
    https://www.power.se/datorer/datorer/stationar-dator/hp-omen-25l-gt11-1426no-stationar-dator/p-1164775/

The CPU upgrade is well worth it and you can fit all of those components in a better case later on down the line if you want.

My guess is that you will wanna fix the thermal solution too - airflow in 99% of prebuilt cases is shit, get a new CPU heatsink and a couple of fans - maybe "mod" the case with a dremmel and open a nice airway at the front LOL.

    Heres a nice summary: https://www.reviewed.com/laptops/content/hp-omen-25l-2021-review

Xaring got a reaction from Kumar114 in CPU temps reaching 100°C on laptop
You should undervolt the CPU and leave the boost and speed clocks to run automatically - Of course its going to run worse at 2.6GHz than at 4Ghz, but a laptop is not supposed to be boosting constantly.

My laptop is running a i7-9750H undervolted by -0.125v at stock speeds and it basically makes the fans go from 60-70% (very noisy) to 40-50% (much quieter) and still keeping the temps under control (90-95ºC, which is normal for a laptop).

Also, change thermal paste as they mention above - It would thermal throttle at 100% fan speed no undervolt when I first got it. Paste swap to Artic MX-5 made it those 90-95 at 70% fan speed, undervolt took the fan noise down 🙂

so this one time I was hanging out with my friend who is the manager at a tech shop by where I live and a girl comes in and buys a 2tb hard drive. we let her know that we install hard drives for $1 (the cost of the sata cable we use) and she says "just because I am a woman does not mean I cant work on computers" and leaves in a huff. two days later she comes back in saying that the HDD is not working so we take the computer in to look at it, we open it and the HDD is nowhere to be seen, so we ask her where it is. and it turns out that she scanned it and put the scanned image on her desktop to install the drive. and to top that off she threw away the drive she paid almost $200 for and she wanted us to give her a new one.

Linus has discussed this multiple times. LMG is focused on delivering quality, entertaining content, and largely, I think they deliver on that promise. However, Linus has said that these titles, which he actually doesn't even like himself, markedly improve the click rates. He's running a business, a content business at that, so he has to get eyeballs on the videos. If this is what it takes to do that, it's an acceptable evil, and ultimately means more and better content for everyone.

I find the titles stupid, as well, most of the time, but I care about the content not the title.

    * Remove ALL usb, all hard/solid drives, basically everything not needed for the basic function of the system.
    * Remove all RAM sticks from the mobo. Test a single stick on several slots and make sure its seated properly.
    * If your CPU has an iGPU, then remove your GPU too.
    * Reseat all your cables...

Basically you want to troubleshoot all the pieces see if you can find the cause of the issues 😞
