  2. The two best way to cut down cost would be to get a cheaper case i.e. Fractal Core 2300 or cut down to a quad core i7 and z97 mobo instead of 6 core and x99. You can also get a Corsair CSM550 PSU since the most that build will draw is 350W.
  3. Corsair brand some reliable PSU. I just think the CX750 is good if you're on a budget but the Seasonic SSR 650 is amazing according to johnnyguru. It is also semi modular. Why not spend more for a way better PSU?
  4. i5-4690K would be enough for a long time. i7 if you want more power. Motherboard doesn't matter much. Just pick one you like and would fit the i5 4690k. Drop the HDD and get a 512GB SSD since you don't like storing on separate drives. 512GB ssd are cheap now. Get a more reliable power supply like Seasonic SSR-650 which is highly rated and performs amazing. Get two stick of memory to take advantage of dual channel. Your GTX 970 is good. Cases are personal. I recommend the NZXT H440 or Fractal Design R5.
  5. Extra $350? Then buy a nice IPS 1080p monitor to pair with your other monitor. The last thing is you can upgrade to a smaller modular PSU from Seasonic. Improve to gold for cooler operation.
  6. If you go with a mini itx FM2+ board, it cost $40 more but you can get a thermaltake core v1 which is a much smaller case and save $40 on the case. Even better, gigabyte has one with wifi on board so you save an extra $10 and newegg has a $10 rebate but it is sold out there.
  7. GTX 970 blows the snot out of the R9 285. Check out Anandtech's benchmarks. They perform a through test. The i5 4460 is equal to or better than FX 8350.
  8. The ASUS H61M is good enough. Get the MSI H81M if you want USB 3.0. The Cooler Master TX3 is enough to keep your CPU below 60C You only need a 500W power supply.
  9. You can cut your cost by going with a CM TX3 cooler. It is smaller but I only hit 60C max on my i5-4460 in an ITX case. If you want a cheaper mobo, MSI H61M is a good choice. Try to get a SSD. It makes a night and day difference in your system. I would recommend Seasonic SSR-450M PSU. A PSU is a core component of any computer and they last the longest so it is important to get something that is very reliable and is less prone to causing coil whine in your system. If you can, I would go on craiglist and find if anyone has a GTX 770 or R9-280x in your area. I bought a EVGA GTX 770 for $200 and it worked great.
  10. 4GB of ram is way too little for a gaming PC. I recommended a Corsair PSU since they are cheap and most builders on a budget use them. I however would suggest investing in a better PSU for long term reliability like Seasonic G550W which is highly rated. A 256GB SSD is what most people recommend currently as 128GB will get tight for keeping your games on. If you have a lot of media, then you can get a 128GB SSD and 1Tb HDD now. Overclock at your own risk. I lost a i5-2500k once but I blame my defective mobo for frying it. Enjoy building your new computer.
  11. How is that budget tight? It is ~$900. My recommendation: Fractal Core 1000 (1,790) Asrock h61M (2,250) i5-4590 (8,900) Palit GTX 970 (15,800) Crucial Ballistix 8GB dual (2x4GB) (3,900) Crucial mx100 256GB SSD (5,300) Corsair CX 500 (this build only use around 300 watt max load) (2,800) Total cost: 40,740
  12. Thank you for the feedback. The only option in my area currently is a ASUS R9 280X and GTX 770.
  13. I am looking to build a gaming rig for Battlefield 4. I built PCs in the past and sold them off as I started focusing more on college and work. Now that I graduated and have a job, I have more free time to come back Battlefield. $ Limit: $650 Location: Pacific NW I have a 1080 IPS monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, and a SSD. Current build ideas: $200 EVGA GTX 770 SC (craiglist) $190 i5-4570 $65 MSI H81 Mini ITX $73 Crucial (2x4GB) RAM $60 Seasonic S12G 450W (I prefer Seasonic for reliability) $50 Thermaltake V1 (good air flow) Total: $638 Let me know if an AMD build would be better. I don't have experience with AMD products. I want to know where I can improve or reduce my cost. Thank you and Happy Holidays.
  14. I love the Kuhler 1250. It is powerful and silent which is what I love about my Fractal Define R2 Build.
