  1. The cheapest 5700xt I can find is £375 - around 420 EUR so if you've found one for 390 then that's pretty good, its around the same performance as a 2070 super so if the 1070 got you 144 fps at 1440p in the games you play then the 5700xt might be just fine for you and you'd be wasting money getting the more expensive 3000 and 6000 series cards?
  2. So, I now understand why I can only do 4k30 on my work laptop; the intel UHD 620 can only support upto 4k30 via HDMI - it can do 4k60 via display port - the issue is my work laptop only has 1x HDMI and 1x USB type C thunderbolt (DP) so I need to buy a usb type C to display port cable so I can get 4k60. I've also figured out the Gsync issues with my personal laptop - turns out both monitors are only Gsync "Compatible" and not full fat Gsync and so I had to enable freesync in both monitor's OSDs. Once I did this, Gsync became visible as an option in NVIDIA control panel.
  3. So I've just bought 2 new monitors, both are 27 inch IPS displays, one is 4k 60hz which supports HDR (even though peak brightness is only 300 nits) no G-Sync on this one but it does support Freesync. The other monitor is 1080p 144hz that also supports HDR (with peak brightness of 400 nits) Now, my circumstances are like many, that I'm working from home, so I've got my work and my personal laptops hooked up using the various ports available to me, HDMI and display port... My issue is I cannot enable HDR in windows on my work laptop AT ALL - it's a 8th Gen i5 with UHD 620 graphics - The little bit of research I've done so far seems to suggest HDR should work on 6th gen onwards??? Why can't I enable HDR on my work laptop? The other issue is on my personal laptop which is a i7 9750h with an RTX 2060 - I CAN enable HDR on both monitors - but only at 120hz on the 1080p one, if I try it at 144hz the screen goes off and on a load of times until I turn HDR off again. If I lower it to 120hz, HDR stays on with no problems I also cannot enable G-sync on any of them - even though the 1080p one says it is both freesync and G-sync compatible and the 4k one is only freesync compatible but I've read some freesync monitors can use G-sync? so TLDR: Can I enable 144hz and HDR on my 1080p monitor? And how can I enable G-sync on any of them - the option just doesn't show up in NVIDIA control panel... and yes I have got the latest drivers installed and all windows updates etc etc. This isn't my first rodeo. Thanks
  4. Dec 5th might be a good shout for AIB cards, AMD are releasing the founders editions (or whatever AMD call them) on Nov 18th - AIB cards are usually 1-2 weeks after that.
  5. Hmm no mention of a dedicated usb port for bios updates on Asrock's web site for this board, I know some motherboards have a special usb port for bios updates but it looks like your out of luck for this one, unless you can borrow a (very good) friends CPU to let you do the bios update then put your new 5000 series one in?
  6. You want a decent HDMI to DP cable - Don't get a cheapo one off eBay - especially if you want to run at anything higher than 1080p and higher than 60hz but if your monitor has VGA I doubt it'll do anything more than 1080p 60hz anyway...
  7. Ah so budget is a thing for you then? Its just with you spending over $3k already, I thought another couple hundred or so wouldn't hurt you to get the very latest and greatest.
  8. Is there a reason you're spending that much money on a motherboard and not going x570? Also is there a reason you're not going pcie gen 4 for your NVMe drive? Aside from the fact that the performance gains are not noticeable for most people (getting that in before any comments) Samsung do a 980 PRO now that is 250, 500 or 1tb looks like budget isn't really a thing for you so just thought I'd mention that.
  9. All rumours at this point: https://www.techpowerup.com/273846/nvidia-allegedly-already-preparing-an-rtx-3080-ti-graphics-card
  10. That is a nice case dude, are you from Turkey? Can't find it for sale anywhere else in the world - well anywhere that displays a price tag for it anyway, 549 Turkish Lira translates to about £50 so not a bad buy, does the PSU come with it? If so, quite a bargain even if it is a bit sketchy, it'll do till you get something better. Pity its not for sale in the UK....
  11. In a word, no. If its over heating/you are not happy with the thermals and is in warranty - send it back Unfortunately its common for manufactures to use poor quality thermal compound on the CPU and GPU in even the most expensive laptops They fail to realise that adding $2 or $3 more to the cost of the laptop will solve the thermal throttling issues in most cases if they use higher quality thermal compound from the factory. Granted some outlets allow you to specify which thermal compound you want them to use but this is usually from integrators not off the shelf laptops like your Acer
  12. Surely it's a case of "its not you its them" I don't play rocket league so I don't know how it works but can't you just choose another server to play on? Not everyone in the world has got 200mb internet unfortunately
  13. The Lenovo is cheaper and your getting double the RAM Everything else is pretty much the same No brainer
  14. Take all other drives out leaving only the Sabrent installed: In this scenario: 1. Does it boot now? 2. Can you install windows on it? If so put all other drives back in. If you can't boot with only the Sabrent installed, then it is likely it is DOA So unless you can test it in a friends rig, send it back and get a replacement or refund
  15. Sounds like the 970 has your windows boot partition on it - try switching to legacy bios instead of UEFI
  16. Thanks! Takes me back to being 13 again, I had the Xmas version of this too think it came free with my Saturn. Reckon I was one of only about 3 people to own a Saturn where I live. All my mates were PlayStation fan boys! I'd love Sega Rally Virtua Cop 2 (with gun) Fighters mega mix Daytona USA Destruction Derby Virtua Fighter 2 Crazy Taxi House of the Dead (with gun)
  17. Yeah over £200 on a dock ain't gonna fly. Nice idea, but I've just bought a USB-C to display port cable off eBay for £10.99. Hopefully it'll do the trick and its not a dodgy one... eBay is full of scammers these days... Anyways, thanks guys!
  18. I've got a Dell G7 7790 with an RTX 2060 I've got a Samsung 4k 60hz monitor and an Acer 144hz monitor that I like to use simultaneously hooked up to my laptop. The laptop has: 1x Mini DP - I'm using this to go to the 4k Samsung as it will give me 4k 60hz - working well 1x Full HDMI - I want to use this on my Acer 144hz monitor which wouldn't be an issue except it only has 1x HDMI port on it that I'm using for my work laptop - it has a spare display port on it that isn't used at the moment. So I'm wondering if a HDMI to Display port cable exists (note I'm going from my laptops HDMI port to my monitor's Display port) that will allow me to game at 144hz when I want to as well as 4k 60hz for other stuff. My laptop also has USB type C - Can USB-C go to Display Port? Thanks
  19. I had an Asus ROG laptop that accepted both SATA and NVMe drives It came with a 128GB SATA drive but I swapped it for a Samsung 970 EVO You had to change a setting in the BIOS to enable it though IIRC
  20. Haha! That's precisely what I did before posting my friend, genuinely missed that
