Those catapult systems really work for small fighter craft.

Also those catapult systems only provide a boost to get the plane into the air in lieu of a longer run way.  The jet is still throttled very high and is otherwise burning a similar amount of fuel to a traditional take off.

Also wind turbines on a jet wouldn't work because that would be kind of like a perpetual motion machine, which isn't physically possible.

To reduce fuel consumption the more feasible methods are better aerodynamics and lighter materials.

Thunderpup got a reaction from Damascus in Clean energy airplanes questions
current solar panel technology doesn't generate enough electricity per square foot/meter to offset the added weight to the air craft.  So even trying to create a hybrid system isn't feasible at the moment.  Given how much airline companies spend in fuel cost alone they would jump at such a plane if the technology existed to make it a real thing.

barring some unlikely jump in solar technology the only way an all electric plane could work is if we switched to a non-fossil fuel like hydrogen; which would emit water vapor as it's only by product.

Unfortunately hydrogen fuel cell technology isn't quite "there yet".

Thunderpup got a reaction from Anjelllo in Canada, good place to live?
The answer kind of depends on what exactly you, or your family, intends to do career wise and what not.

The USA would be easier for you to move to because you are technically a US citizen already so there isn't any immigration issues you have to worry about. In contrast you'd have to apply for a visa to immigrate to Canada, and unfortunately for you Canada doesn't admit many immigrants a year.

So tell us a bit more about you and your family and maybe we can provide a more appropriate answer.

Ive been through heaps of Tropicals, and catagory 1s&2s, maybe even a 3. Never a 4 or a 5.

That being said my advice to you is to check the forecast at least twice a day, and pay attention to mandatory evacuation orders.

Make sure your gas tank is full, and you have a primary and secondary route to leave the area planned out.

Pre-pack anything you know you must not lose, and have them ready to go.

I'm technically in the path too (VA), but we still have a few days to prepare.  I hope you are far enough away that you actually have time to prepare.

Sadly it is a bit late for this piece of advice.  For this sort of stuff there is typically a delay between when you buy the insurance and when it goes into effect.  Especially flood insurance.
I went through Matthew directly, and while it was a rather dull storm as Hurricanes go.  Not having power for almost a week afterwards really sucked.

sad thing is insurance rarely ever includes flood insurance as that is almost always a stand alone policy.

where i live some parts require flood insurance if you have a mortgage as the banks wont let you get one without it.

Don't discount the velcro straps before using them. I bought a pack of 100 and i've been using them on anything that has an attached cable ever since.

Also do a search of organizing retro video game equipment.  What a lot of folks do to keep the older corded controllers, power cords, A/V cables etc... organized will probably help you in what you are attempting.

    Yea i figured that.
I'd really like an explanation from the OP as to the intention of this post.  If for instance he is trying to showcase the lack of congestion; i know for a fact that is all relative to which motorway and the time of day.  Just like any place.

Thunderpup got a reaction from Zando_ in Linus becoming an AMD Fanboy?
Linus is a tech geek at heart and what AMD is doing is pretty impressive given the sheer value of the products they are releasing.  Ryzen provides a lot of stuff Linus has been complaining for a very long time about how limited the "features" an intel CPU has at all but the highest priced units.

The i9 is pretty indicative of all of the pet peeves Linus, and the tech community, has had about intel for years.  That they can release a nice powerful product, but they don't because they have a monopoly on the market.

It's still pretty respectable as turn over in today's economy is pretty high even in small businesses.

Some other factors that also affect price, but not discussed here.  Import fees, shipping costs, size of the market, and corporate taxation etc...

As far as the wage differences between Americans and Czech people; i understand your frustration, but there isn't anything to do about it.

When i was a kid my dad took me on a British destroyer and while sitting in the lounge/bar area talking with a crew member a bunch of other crew members came back from a shopping expedition in town.  They had several bags worth of items, mostly clothing and electronics/game systems.

I asked my dad why didn't they just buy it in the UK, and he explained that those guys likely saved a few hundred dollars just in taxes from buying it here.  I didn't really understand it until some years later during a trip to the netherlands that i saw just how high the prices were simply because of the taxes.

    Question,

Is there anything unsafe about the unboiled water that would make you want to boil it?  You said your water is delivered using "advanced pipes", but i really don't know what that means.

I think most of us are trying to figure out exactly why you think you need to boil it in the first place.

unless your water has harmful microbes in it, like bacteria & viruses, you shouldn't need to boil it.

Also boiling it usually won't improve the taste.

He doesn't crap on "low end Sh&t" because it's low end.  He trashes low quality products that aren't worth the price despite being made to tailor(take advantage) to people on a budget.

There is a big difference between cheap and inexpensive and his low end mice/keyboard videos prove that he can and will notate the difference.

large buildings filled with expensive equipment cost a lot of money.

10,000 jobs, if that is the average number of employed per year is very good and will add millions in yearly tax revenue.

Thunderpup got a reaction from Dark Force in foxconn picks wisconsin for its us plant
You also have to take into account whether the plant reduces the local unemployment as well as those currently living on some welfare service.   So while adding additional tax revenue it could help alleviate tax burdens elsewhere.

That being said you are correct that it really does "just depends", and it's a little too soon to write this off as being good or bad.

Overall though people need to realize that some jobs simply aren't viable here in the U.S without some sort of incentive program or an overhaul on the tax code.  While others need to realize that government incentives aren't always good investments, and we should cut company's off if they do not fulfill their end of the bargain.
