PLME888 reacted to StDragon in Windows 11 24H2 goes from “unsupported” to “unbootable” on some older CPUs
Microsoft is actively rewriting portions of the OS code with Rust for security reasons. As i understand it, POPCNT allows for efficient code to be compiled. So, it stands to reason why MS would raise the baseline by making this a hard requirement. It's about time frankly.

    Why?

Why not just cut it down to 4 GB across two memory chips and release it as a $120 "RTX 3030" so we can finally put the GT 1030 out to pasture? At that price I'd get it just as a transcoding card for my Plex server.

I hope WinRAR's servers can handle their entire customer base of 4 people downloading the new version.

PLME888 reacted to StDragon in Microsoft might want to be making Windows 12 a subscription OS
I seriously doubt this would be for the consumer market. Almost certainly to be rolled into the Microsoft 365 Enterprise subscription as a Windows Enterprise license paid annually.

PLME888 reacted to ImWilly in Apple pricing?!
Well, the fact is that the US pricing is almost always exempt tax
So, when you place an order on Apple US website, they will add tax on the checkout
I once asked my friend in the US to buy iPhone as well years ago, and I decide not to do so because of the additional tax pricing, which makes it not so far difference to the price on my local country

As far as I know, Europe market is always place price as is (no hidden fee crap or whatsoever)
Please correct me if I'm wrong

It's amazing how much of a difference modern lighting and textures make to aging games. I saw an RTX remix of a Need for Speed: Underground title, and it looked almost new. Black Mesa RTX when?

There has to be a relation and influence between /r/LinusTechTips and LMG. The censorship benefits LMG at this moment. I understand its damage control, but IMO does it hurt more, than what they gain of it. It fall in line with the bad behavior of LMG so far.

PLME888 reacted to Electricity Taster in Should any EMPLOYEE hired for tasks unrelated to modelling model company underwear?
That is not OK and I am offended by what you've just said about me. It's a complete mischaracterization based on your inability to comprehend my argument. As I've said many times, I have no problem with women modelling underwear, so long as they are employed specifically for that job. Otherwise, asymmetrical power structures undermine consent. If you disagree, fine. You don't have to participate in this discussion and you are free to leave.

PLME888 reacted to Mertrodome in Should any EMPLOYEE hired for tasks unrelated to modelling model company underwear?
Sure, could there hypothetically be some weird power dynamics or peer pressure making people feel like they are expected to model, or will be thought poorly of by refusing. Of course those things do happen in the world.

However, absent any reason at all to believe this is true at LTT, I don't really see what the value is in this thread. As far as I'm aware nobody has ever even hinted at pressure to feature on the store, and there are plenty of employees who don't, leading me to assume it's very much an opt-in situation.

Hypothetically sure, bad stuff happens in workplaces. But hypothetically they have a rule where everyone has to bring in a selection of cheeses on the first Thursday of every quarter.

There is literally no substance in this conversation other than "if this thing is bad, does that mean it's bad?"

PLME888 reacted to Electricity Taster in Should any EMPLOYEE hired for tasks unrelated to modelling model company underwear?
No. My argument is that there is no way to know for sure and the asymmetric power structures undermines consent. That should make you doubt the validity of the consent given and that should be enough for you to hire models specifically to model your merch.

This is crazy man, implying that Women can't give consent under their own power due to the idea of a patriarchal power structure within the workplace undermines their own autonomy and ends up taking your argument in the complete opposite direction, and makes you look incredibly sexist. Implying that it's ours or anyone else's job to double check given consent is demeaning. Comparing a woman in the workplace under a completely normal "corporate power structure" to her being "too drunk to consent" is also wild.
