  1. Thanks guys, I will check out the JBLs and I am not getting a sub anytime soon. I really like the design and make of the KRK, although I understand I am paying for audio, not aesthetics.
  2. Okay, so I have been using these cheap Dell computer speakers for years but now they are breaking on me and I was looking to upgrade. My friend has these studio monitors (KRK Rokit 5) and he loves them and recommended them to me. I understand monitors are meant to reproduce flat sounds, but will they work for casual listening/movies/gaming? I also produce videos which can have sounds effects and voice recordings, so that's why I was leaning toward studio monitors, particularly the KRK Rokit 5's. Just asking for opinions if these sound good for normal use. Thanks!
  3. Hey guys, I have the beats solo headphones and I have previously used the mic on it to talk to friends on my old PC. I just built a new one and plugged the beats into the front headphone port of my case. I can hear audio fine but the computer does not recognize the microphone on the beats. Here is the case I have: http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/define-series/define-r5-black Is this because the front audio jack doesnt have audio in/out (not sure which is which)? There is a also a microphone jack next to it, but then I cant hear anything out of my headphones. Is there a driver I can install to make this work? Or do I need some sort of adapter? Thanks for the help.
  4. Well I just completely finished my first build today and I can gladly say everything works great! I worked 2 days on it, the first was putting everything together, and the second was troubleshooting. At first the computer didn't turn on at all (I was pretty upset) but then i looked at the headers on my motherboard and found the connectors in the wrong place so now it works. Also had a little problem with the fans being plugged into the wrong ports but also got them to work fine. After these 2 days, I have learned a lot about building computers and can probably do it much smoother the second time. If I can give you one piece of advice I wish I knew when building, is to make sure you read the headers on your motherboard to make sure everything is plugged in the right places, even it it plugs into a place, doesn't mean its the right place. Apart from that, this website has a great community full of helpful individuals who will help you with any problems you have. Hope everything goes well and congratulations on your soon-to-come PC!
  5. Thank you! I fixed everything and found out the place I plugged in the fan before were for the top 3 fans that are optional on the case. They are not part of the chassis so they are not monitored by the motherboard but they will spin and keep the computer cooler. So technically, I could have left the chassis fans plugged into those ports instead of the motherboard, but now I can monitor them easier through the bios. Thanks for all the help!
  6. Alright! So i plugged in the case fans to the correct spots on the motherboard and im testing it now so make sure they work. Although, i did unplug them from something else which seems to be the plugs for headphone and microphone jack on the front of the computer (they had the same size plugs as the case fans apparently)
  7. Ok so i opened it up and the CPU fan was plugged into CHA2 FAN slot on the motherboard, so I put it into the CPU FAN spot. Hopefully that fixed the CPU problem, but now i dont think the CHA (chassis?) fans are plugged in correctly
  8. I apologize for my ignorance, but I dont know what the headers are. I just plugged the chassis fan into cord that came with the case, i dont remember what i plugged the cpu cooler into, im checking now
  9. Well the fans are spinning, just not being recognized by the computer if that makes sense
  10. Hello guys, I just built my first computer, when I start it up, I get a CPU fan error and it says to press F1 to get to the bios. When Im looking at the bios, it says N/A next to CPU fan and also next to CHA1 FAN but CHA2 FAN is working fine. Did I plug everything in correctly? I have an Asus Z97-E motherboard with the fans that came with my Fractal Design R5 case and the Hyper 212 Evo cpu cooler. Here is a picture of my bios: EDIT: The fans are spinning (both the heatsink and chassis fans) so I guess its plugged in right, but maybe in the wrong slot or something?
  11. Thank you all for the helpful responses and guidance. I really appreciate it!
  12. Thanks for the quick response. Would a 650W PSU be adequate for this setup? This isn't including monitors: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/R9jXt6
  13. Just like the title says. I am getting dual monitors for my setup and wondering if they use the wattage from my power supply. I know they plug into the wall but are they also using PSU wattage?
  14. Im building a new computer and bought an 8gb stick of RAM. I also have an old computer with 2gb and another with two 1gb sticks in it. My motherboard has slots for 4 sticks of RAM. Can i combine these sticks to make 12gb? Im just not sure if it is practical or even allowed to combine an 8gb stick and 1gb stick. What do you think?
  15. I just bought the GPU, it was on a great sale on newegg for $340. Do you think I need an optical output? Im not even sure what that is?
