Went to best buy and went and looked at their "graphics card" the other day.
Literally wedged between the wall and a 450$ Asus motherboard. it was a Zotac GT 710 for 75$ (cad)

Is there any hope left? I'm seriously getting bummed out. I just wanted to finished my PC and I can't even find a video card. let alone one that actually fits my Cougar QBX.

    Effective latency math thingy:

    (13 / 1066) *1000 = 12.19ms
    (14 / 1200) *1000 = 11.6ms
    (15 / 1333) * 1000 = 11.25ms

2666MHz C15 kit is fastest. If it's in the same sort of price range, go for it.

Y'all are bae. That's why we've partnered up with Razer to give away one NEW Razer Blade 14, and one NEW Razer Blade Stealth (full specs listed in the announcement video), with a custom graphic designed by our very own Edzel Yago  .

    RULES OF THE GIVEAWAY:

    1. One entry per user. Duplicate posts and posts from duplicate accounts will be deleted before a winner is drawn, to leave one post per person.

    2. Winners will have 72 hours to respond. If a winner does not respond within that time, a new winner will be drawn.

    3. This is a worldwide giveaway with no age restrictions. Shipping costs will be covered by the shipper, but any duties/taxes/other fees upon delivery will be the sole responsibility of the winner.

Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, OMG THIS IS AWESOME HOW DO I WIN ONE???:

    1. Comment below letting us know which Razer laptop you would prefer to win. Feel free to make it fun - what would you use it for? Why do you prefer the Blade or the Blade Stealth?

    2. This is not a REQUIREMENT for entry, but you should definitely follow Razer on Twitter and subscribe to their YouTube page. In addition to providing the laptops for this awesome giveaway AND sponsoring our trip to PAX, they work with a plethora of other incredible creators in a number of spaces, and release cool content with some of them on a fairly regular basis. Please support them on social media and Tweet at them thanking them for this giveaway!!

    3. Check back in one week. Entries for this giveaway will close on Monday, September 12, and winners will be chosen soon after. Winners will be messaged by me here on the forum. That's it!! If I've missed anything, feel free to let me know.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ENTERING, AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT ON THIS CRAZY JOURNEY

    EDIT:

Alright, we have selected our winners!!!

@Plavi and @willp3, you have 72 hours to respond to the DMs I am sending you right now. If we do not receive a reply in that time, new winners will be chosen! Since both said that the Blade would be their choice, it's on a "first replied first served" basis. (for clarity - what this means is that the first winner to reply will get their choice between the two laptops, and the second winner to reply will get the laptop that the first winner did not choose. This does not mean that we're only giving away one laptop...)

    Thanks everyone.

    EDIT2:

Alright, so @Plavi has officially claimed the New Blade! Congrats on winning

But, unfortunately for @willp3, he did not respond in time to claim his prize...

Our new Blade Stealth winner is @ted542! Check your inbox, you have 72 hours to reply

    EDIT3:

Both laptops have now been claimed. Thanks for participating in this awesome giveaway, and please be sure to keep an eye out for giveaways in the future!

Please don't report posts in this topic - all duplicates will be handled before drawing, so if you have double posted, don't worry about it.

Open world games are abit of a stretch. Especially if it's your first project, not trying to assume anything here.

I too want to make a game but theirs ALOT to first grasp:
you need Programming, 3D artists, 3D Rigging & Animators (to make things movable, and to have movement) as well as 2D artists for the visuals like Textures and other stuff. It's a massive time consuming process that will take more than a week, however pace yourself and you can go far. I don't believe theirs any engines out there that offer all this outright. Try remembering these keywords- Free Source, Open Source, royalty free. you can find stuff without needing all the additional skill-sets.

Here's a podcast you and your friend should listen to, while learning different tasks.
    http://www.goodgamesbydesign.com/2015/08/gdz-001-how-much-is-enough-the-paradox-of-choice-for-game-design/
    he's got some nice points.

But as for some tools, I can recommend
    3D modelling, rigging & animation:
Maya 2016 / Maya 2017 (signup for a free 3 year student license, it's free. Say your self-taught they dont care)
    2D Art:
    Gimp2 or Paint.net
    Game engine:
Unity3D, check the forum. Don't let people discourage you, but keep an understanding open mind.
    Programming:
Might have to check youtube there. that's got me stumped

And it wouldn't be able to do that anyway, as the CPUs can only output as much heat energy as you put into them. Unless AMD has accidentally figured out how to break the law of conservation of energy and mass, in which case they should go into building power stations and become the richest company in the world.

I was looking at the CPU's in PC Part Picker and thought, a fair number of workstations or servers use dual-CPUs and because I'm left looking at others since i can't find a compatible motherboard for an AMD Opteron 6378 a 16core CPU. I Looked at the AMD FX-9590, that thing looks like it's ready to start a fire.

What if two AMD FX-9590's were thrown into a dual-cpu setup, typically for workstations or server loads. would this become a volcano? probably the next ice age with all that nifty liquid cooling everyone's doing.

    CPU in question:
    AMD Opteron 16 core
    AMD Opteron 12 core
    AMD FX-9590 8 core

So would 2 AMD FX-9590's be stable in a dual-CPU setup, If so how would you cool them?

I just built at pc for a friend and used the cooler master tx3 and its very quiet. And like W-L mentioned, any fan can be loud if its running at or close to max speed. Get whatever one you think would be best for you and run the fans at a low speed. You'll be good

In general all fans are loud if they are running at full speed, but when undervolted many are very quiet to barely auible, I would suggest replacing it only if you find them to be too loud after a bit of use. If you do replace them for heatsinks look for pressure oriented fans some good quality ones are the Fractal Design Venturi's, Nocta NF-F12, EK Vardar, GT, to just name a few.

Linux at the moment would put too much pressure on me, what I'm trying to do right now is abit of a challenge as it is. Though it does sound like it certainly would do the job, I'd like to stay around the Windows/"PC" scene till i know my way around, that way when I learn enough I can figure out what's breaking where, less of a hard impact of learning curves colliding.

BizSpark being free sounds amazing I'll have to jump on it sometime so I'll have a copy!
Over all, I just want to get an understanding of where I should begin, the suggestions of what to get is really helpful.
The advice for Game Servers is good, though I'm still new to the whole server scene getting started and getting prepared are where I'm at currently. As it stands now I can manage (sometimes struggle) to get a minecraft server going, on windows, but the server will assist in getting multiple servers started to split between a creative and pvp server, Shouldn't be much different from setting up normally aside for a couple adjustments right?

As for the Webpage thought, It'll be sort of like a blog/forum mix. Once I get some skill sets and talents I'll be reaching out to others for some Aid on a couple projects I'd like to direct.

I want to start a Home server, More so to do a custom webpage or host a game like minecraft on the side. I haven't delve to much into this aside from messing around with what I could on windows 7 (and failing).

I currently have a Dell Precision T1650, without graphics card, It's got 8GB DDR3 ram, and an intel core i3 3.30Ghz processor, It was just something I had laying around and couldn't sell it.

I'm considering switching to a server OS but wanted to see what anyone here could bring to my attention.
