  1. Well... without having to buy anything... that makes it a bit tough. The best recommendations that I can give would be: 1: lower your fan speeds through the motherboard UEFI, the slower a fan spins the quieter it is. 2: clean your PC, dust buildup prevents airflow and insulates the heatsinks and causes higher temperatures and louder fans b/c they have to spin faster to cool
  2. Neat idea, but IMO them benefit of proper air filtration and slower dust buildup via positive case pressure is far more valuable than the possibility of a 1-2 dec C temperature difference.
  3. Hres a possibility? Sorry its over 600 without a monitor included but i think it's the minimum 60fps ish at very good quality settings. HERE The gta5 performance chart can be found here.
  4. Thats going to be a tough price point to hit for the desired performance, i'll assume 1080p resolution since its the most common.
  5. Gtx 760 example: Here PSU recommendation: Here Game requirements: Here
  6. The 750ti uses only the pci express 16x connector for power so any motherboard that has a pci express 16x slot it must be able to provide the necessary power and therefore the psu will as well. The 750Ti is approx 75 watts max and the cpu will be 150watts max so a 300watt psu should work fine... Again a junk psu is always a risk... it can fry everything if it fails. I would recommend measuring the psu and comparing it to the size specs of whatever psu you're interested in. The system requirements for battlefront are above what a gtx460 can provide due to a 2gb vram minimum so i would recommend a DX11 card with at least 2gb of vram. A good pick could be a Gtx760, it's more powerful than all the cards you or i have listed, has the 2gb of vram and is available on ebay for around $100-120 which leaves about $70-80 for a decent psu.
  7. It's basically a non issue i agree, i had 2 970's and loved them, but it does exist and can be an issue in a few certain circumstances... BUT never if settings are properly configured.
  8. It will not cause issues with fallout 4, with my 970 at very high settings i was seeing 50+ FPS depending on the area.
  9. If you own a game that uses above 3.5gb of vram on super high settings then you may experience major frame rate drops and stutters. Basically treat the card like it has 3.5gb instead of 4gb and it will perform stupendously. The fix: Hard way: adjust your in game settings to keep vram usage below 3.5gb. Easy way: Use geforce experience to automatically optimize most newer games for you.
  10. More quality fans at a slower speed Could possibly mean less noise.
  11. If he bought a prebuilt the chances are good it has a pretty terrible power supply in it, HOWEVER being a prebuilt it may not use a standard psu size/form factor... so replace it if possible BUT there may be few options if it is not standard sized. 1: check the psu, if it is just an ugly grey box then it is no good/sucks/should be used a trash can garnish so dispose of it properly, if it has a reputable brand name then look it up and see. 2: the evga 460 would likely not run battlefront well if at all 3: nvidia 750ti is the best choice i am aware of that draws under 75watts and can therefore be used with ANY psu that works with his motherboard since it has no auxiliary power commectors. Also a gtx950 IF there is one available with no external power connectors.
  12. I have a h100i gtx that had the same issue. I posted my solution Here I came to a similar solution though i would say that if the washers were metal/conductive you may want to consider a different material just for safety's sake.
  13. I've heard a lot of praise given to this card, i've never been big on Zotac myself but they seem to have produced a great card thats shown to be a good overclocker when the lottery is in your favor. I personally perfer EVGA or Gigabyte, EVGA has legendary customer support and great products the classified 980Ti is my personal favorite air cooled 980Ti (other than the kinpin) and their hydro series is pretty awesome(I have a hydro myself). Gigabyte seems to have cards that constantly perform very well, high GPU boost levels and great temperatures with slightly more aggressive fan curves and a little more noise as a result. Any respected brand 980Ti will give you great performance and remarkably... pretty good bang for the buck(performance versus price).
  14. Yep, r9 390. (almost)Always buy the most powerful single gpu you can afford. It will give you the best stability and upgradeability.
  15. Have you tried using the bottom pci express 16x slot to put the card in?
  16. As was said above, many 970's have fans that do not turn on until they reach a temperature over 60 deg celcius. Try running a game or load test and watching the fans and temperatures.
  17. Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions. This PC shall be put to good use!
  18. Good Point, 850 evo is only another 20 bucks. For the HDD, the plan is to use a 1tb drive he currently has (it was a place holder to prevent everyone from commenting about lack of storage).
  19. Hello all, I am putting some ideas together for a Gaming build for a friend and I am looking for any helpful input or recommendations. 1: Budget: approx. $1200 US Location: USA East Coast 2: Aim: Gaming with a desire for Maximum graphical beauty with both AAA titles and MMO's 3: Screen: 1080p currently with a eventual upgrade to 1440p 4: Peripherals: All accounted for including Monitor. 5: Reason for Upgrade: A several year old store bought HP is his current "gaming" PC. Build: Here
  20. That is not true, the Classified card is approx 1 inch taller than the FTW version to accomodate a larger PCB that supports 14+3 phase power(which is the best of ANY 980Ti i'm aware of) and also houses a larger cooler.
  21. Is there a specific reason not to overclock with a 212evo? The cooler far exceeds the stock intel cooler, provides great temperature control, is a great price, is it that much worse than some of the other 2lb blocks of metal called heat sinks?
  22. I'm at a conservative 4.5GHz with an i5-2500k on a Hyper 212 PLUS(older non evo version) (oh... and zero thermal problems with plenty of room to spare)
  23. The evga classified edition is one of the very best cards you can get and one of the best cooling solutions you can get and includes evga's legendary customer support and rma support. That's a lot of ands for a very good card...
  24. I wouldn't go through the hassle of modding your case. You should be fine with the 360mm radiator, it is overkill for just a cpu. Remember the graphics card draws way more power than the cpu in most cases and thus needs much more cooling.
