Gotta love how unabashedly Nvidia is embracing the Apple school of thought.

I'm not american. Im not talking about the nationality of inventors. The DoD funded Arpanet. They laid the foundations for the internet and then walked away. It was also US tax money that brought the internet to NZ via NASA. Without USA money, no internet.

their routers were actually really good... a bit overpriced but they are really reliable and can actually handle lots of clients with good results.my guess is they weren't selling so well so that's why they are getting rid of the lineup

I heard it yesterday and it's fantastic news. We have apparently solved a large environmental problem that we've caused by seizing use of CFC and the Earth seems to slowly recover. Disaster averted.

We still have a giant problem on our hands - namely climate change - and very few are willing to do something about it because people believe it's a hoax to presumably take your money and harms businesses (since when did you as a person hold businesses above your own needs anyway?).
Even if there is no apocalypse and it's a hoax, the reduced waste and pollution locally would be worth the cost. Hooray for reduced risk of cancer but of course that's not worth the investment it seems.

I think it was a mistake to use the term global warming to begin with even if the overall temperature on Earth is increasing slowly. The warming isn't immediately seen, however the more extreme and unstable weather is easier to notice because people will point to a very harsh winter and say where is the global warming them scientists were talking 'bout?

Ah, classic marketing tactics in the third slide. Making the GTX 1060 look two times faster visually when it's allegedly only 15% more powerful.

At this stage, I don't see the GTX 1060 being slower than the RX 480 and more inclined to say it's faster with much better energy efficiency. The crucial bit here is the pricing.

    http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/06/godless-apps-some-found-in-google-play-root-90-of-android-phones/

As a huge proponent of rooting one's phone, I also recognize the dangers root access can represent. Thankfully, rooting is convoluted enough that most of our non tech-savvy family and friends simply won't do it, keeping themselves safe from accidental bricks and unfriendly instructions.

The fact that some apps available from Google Play can just straight-up force root access is scary, even if it is theoretically for useful features. While I'm sure the AOSP team will patch these exploits very quickly, the ecosystem fragmentation means that people will be open to yet another attack for years to come.

unless they're PWM fans and your motherboard has PWM headers, no
you could buy a fan controller and adjust them manually all the time, but i think thats an inconvenience

i would recommend using quieter fans like bequiet silent wings or some other sub-20db fans
then you can even have them at 100% and you wont hear them

Cool. One thing I did to decrease the noise of my system is filter all of the intakes and unused vents.

Just bought a dozen or so generic filters off ebay. They muffle the noise of the internal fans quite well, and I haven't noticed any decrease in airflow with the exception of one fan in the rear, but I just clicked it up a notch and no issues. That's the nice thing about having 3 speed fans, I guess.

ahkenatan reacted to colonel_mortis in experts find that HTML5 ads aren't safer than FLASH ones
The big difference between flash ads and HTML5 ads though is that, while both can result in malicious adverts being served, a malicious HTML5 advert is limited by the browser sandbox, and can only do anything damaging to your computer if it finds a vulnerability in the browser that you're using (which has happened in the past, but isn't at all common), while a flash ad is not sandboxed by the browser, and relies instead on flash's notoriously ineffective sandboxing.
No, java is mostly blocked, and java is a very different thing to javascript. Without javascript, most websites will provide a degraded experience at best, and some more modern websites won't work at all. For example, while you can use this site without JS, things like the editor are significantly nerfed without it.

Whenever I see stuff like this, it really puts me off from switching back to Android -- I'm on iPhone right now. I used to have an Android and I'd root it and play around with different ROMs and kernels and that was fun, but any time anything about phones being unsafe or insecure comes out it seems like it's always about Android I really wish it wasn't.

10k$ are nothing for microsoft, even 1M would have been worth very little to them. The benefits they get from having the widest userbase possible far outweigh this nuisance.

Personally I am not against forced security updates and major patches, but I just wish the process was a lot more seamless. Having the reboot the computer is irritating. especially if it nags you while you are using it, and it shouldn't be necessary if the OS weren't the intricate mess it came to be.

With that said stubbornly holding off from the upgrade without specific compatibility reasons is a bit like refusing vaccines. Windows 10 is objectively superior to 7 and 8.1, save perhaps some aesthetic aspects.

Ah alright. Well to put it simply, if you disable all but one core on an 8350 and on a 4670k, then put them each to the same clock speed... The 4670k crushes the 8350. The 4670k crushes the 8350 (in most games) with all cores enabled, with the 8350 clocked a bit higher. The 8350 wins in some applications, such as streaming; where tons of cores is particularly helpful.

If you're trying to learn, look into IPC. What makes CPU speed is a combination of cores, clock speed, and IPC. IPC is kinda king atm, but they're all necessary.

I know this isnt related to your question but, $1400 is way too much for that...I would think 800 at the most. For that amount of money, I would have just bought a new setup with x99.

In any case: A little hard to say by the pictures (though Im surprised you were even able to get that close) Though it looks like theres a single pin thats bent down a little too far. I've repaired pins like this a couple of times, with varying degrees of success. I would say try it, run some benchmarks. It will likely post but if that pin isn't making contact, youll probably crash. If so, take the cpu back out and very carefully with the smallest flathead you can find (something out of an iFixIt kit should work) and pry the pin upwards gently. Even if it's higher than all the others, that's fine.

A large reason for it being so expensive is also that it's a custom case like the NCASE M1. Since it will be produced on such a small scale, the price per unit needs to increase. Also having so much aluminum really doesn't help with the price either.
