  1. I haven't used blue light glasses, but it's not worth paying money for something you can accomplish for free with software. I'd say f.lux is about the same as the built in Windows one, with one exception -- I have issues with the Windows one all. The. Time. if I put my device to sleep. Even closing the lid on my laptop seems to mess it up. It'll either take forever to turn on automatically or it just won't turn off the next day and then when I try to turn it off myself it gets all wonky and the buttons are disabled and I have to do a restart. Ever since switching to f.lux I've never had any of those issues. It just sits hidden in my system tray and does what it's supposed to. It's great. Edit: make sure to get the Windows/Microsoft Store version!
  2. I would do the following (with reinstalling OS being the last step to take): Try the case front USB ports Make sure the motherboard power cable is plugged in ALL the way Make sure the metal boxes that have the USB ports on the motherboard haven't been damaged Try booting into a Linux distro from a disk Reinstall OS
  3. I attached the two 3-pin fans (S12A and Pure Wings 2) to the built-in fan controller on the R5. I moved the front NF-A14 to the CPUFAN2 header, and I put a low-noise adapter on the second fan on the NH-D15. I already had an LNA on one of the fans and just ran Intel's XTU stress test and it seems to have only increased the temperature by one or two degrees. It seems like the board's built-in 4-pin headers were causing the issue after all thank you all for the help though! It's a lot quieter now.
  4. I have the Define R5 so the front and bottom intakes (which are the only intakes) are filtered. All unused vents are blocked off with their Moduvent covers.
  5. Yeah, all of my fans save two are 4-pin PWM and my motherboard has 4-pin PWM headers but the lowest it lets me set it to in the BIOS is 50%.
  6. I'm happy with both my GPU and CPU temps at load -- 80C and 74C max respectively, which aren't bad for an overclocked 980 Ti and 4690k. I'm happy with how much sound my computer makes at load too, which is drowned out if I simply open my window, and I'm basically on the edge of an urban area as far as noise goes, so it's not loud at all. What I'm having difficulty with is that my case fans aren't spinning down enough (or turning off) when I'm at idle. For context, all of my fans are either Noctua or bequiet: x2 NF-A15 (on an NH-D15) x2 NF-A14 x1 NF-S12A x1 Pure Wings 2 The lowest I can set case fans (not CPU headers) on my motherboard -- MSI Z97 Krait Edition -- is 50%, which I have them running at all of the time because it's the slowest/quietest they can go. I'd love to be able to make it so they just stop spinning or are SUPER slow at idle, much like on a laptop, where you literally cannot hear the system at all. As it stands currently, the system is only slightly louder under load. Is there any way I can do this? Am I missing something?
  7. Whenever I see stuff like this, it really puts me off from switching back to Android -- I'm on iPhone right now. I used to have an Android and I'd root it and play around with different ROMs and kernels and that was fun, but any time anything about phones being unsafe or insecure comes out it seems like it's always about Android I really wish it wasn't.
  8. There is no way a 4690K is worse than not only an un-overclockable 4690 but also an FX-6350. It's also below a 2600K which doesn't make sense either.
  9. Mouse: Roccat Kone Pure Keyboard: Older Apple Wireless Keyboard, but have a CoolerMaster Masterkey Pro S on the way Microphone: Blue Snowball Headphones: Sennheiser Momentum 2.0
  10. Yeah, idle temps really don't matter as long as they're not higher than load (which probably isn't even possible). I set my fans to spin super slow until ~60C so my PC is really quiet on idle, with CPU temps being in the low 40's on an NH-D15.
  11. Alright, cool. My hardware's really good and it's already really silent (especially at idle), but I was just wondering that if taking "the next step" would be worth it. Thanks for the feedback!
  12. Has anyone ever tried to put sound-dampening foam in the bottom of the Define R5? What I mean is the space on the bottom of the case from the end of the power supply to the front of the case. Would this even yield any noticeable sound-dampening benefit?
  13. If your case has space for it, definitely consider the NH-D15S. It's basically the U14S but with a much larger heatsink, which will help with cooling an overclocked 5820k.
  14. be quiet! Silent Wings 2 fans are also really good. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0606 EDIT: Pure Wings 2 can be had for about half as much money but will produce more noise (they are still quiet though, I have two in my rig as intake). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0614
