About mike1808

    Newbie
  1. Missed the RAM change. Thanks for the build.
  2. So, the price dropped by $20 but only RAM is faster now and CPU has lower max clocks. Is the cooler you listed will the handle K series?
  3. I'm aware of AWS, GCP, and other cloud solutions. The problem with them that I'm constantly changing the model and retraining, having nice GPU which will execute everything fast has a very big impact on my performance. You'll need 12 x V100 if you sure that everything works great and you are trying to scale your model (which I probably won't do because I'm working on research topics, not production ready models). For my day to day work, even if I use AWS with spot servers (without considering their limitations) where the price for K80 is ~$0.20 - $1 is expensive if you consider that I'm going to use the machine for 3-4 years.
  4. Hi folks, I want to build a workstation this week primarily used for deep learning and machine learning as a workstation and I'll connect to it using SSH. Also, will be nice to have a nice gaming compatibility but that is secondary. My budget is $2500 (pre-tax), CA and I'm going to use one IPS 4k monitor w/o 144 Hz and G-Sync (will be too high). I'll share use monitor with my laptop so 4K and IPS is a must-have as I'll spend most of my time staring at text/code. Here is what I built and, my concerns: * cooler, is it enough for slightly overclocked CPU? * will the case obstruct airflow and make GPU and CPU throttle (the machine will work 24/7) * I added only one stick of 16GB as I probably will upgrade to 32GB in the nearest future * my main focus here is GPU PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor $369.99 @ Amazon CPU Cooler Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler $24.89 @ OutletPC Motherboard Asus - TUF Z390M-PRO GAMING (WI-FI) Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $170.21 @ Amazon Memory G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $99.99 @ Newegg Storage Samsung - 970 Evo 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $97.89 @ OutletPC Storage Seagate - Barracuda 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $59.89 @ OutletPC Video Card Zotac - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB GAMING AMP Video Card $1276.60 @ Amazon Case Fractal Design - Define Mini C MicroATX Mid Tower Case $87.40 @ Newegg Power Supply Corsair - RMx (2018) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $73.98 @ Newegg Monitor LG - 27UD58-B 27.0" 3840x2160 60 Hz Monitor $279.00 @ B&H Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $2569.84 Mail-in rebates -$30.00 Total $2539.84 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-03-18 23:37 EDT-0400 P.S. I also looked in another topic where similar build with i9 and 2080TI costs $2100. Do PC parts become more expensive these months or I'm doing something wrong here?

    Video format conversion fails.help!

I think, the problem is not in a particular format (avi or mkv). The both formats are just containers they actually don't encode videos. You check the video codec and its bitrate.

    87-key Macro Keyboard

Wow, Luamacros is written in TurboDelphi which isn't a popular language, I doubt that anyone will contribute to that project. It's easier to rewrite everything using some mainstream language.

PCIe Lanes - PCIe 8x vs 16x in SLI

Hello LMG! I'm going to build a rig for CUDA computing (VDNN) and I wonder how the PCI lanes affect on such GPU work because during the CUDA computing SLI is not used and all the GPUs work separately and the performance between CPU and GPU will play a significant role. Can you make a short video (maybe Luke in his new video series) testing that?

rMBP 13 vs XPS 13 vs Razer Blade

I've faced with the same choice (powerful desktop at home, and I need ultrabook for work and study). XPS 13 owners, there are some complains about it's manufacturing issues, like dead pixels, dead battery, etc. Do you had something like that? I really don't want to get such issues when I buy my XPS 13, because I'm going to send it oversea and sending back will cost a lot.

    DIY Illuminated Rear IO

It's pretty straightforward to use such ready-to-go board like you've provided. Just connect + from USB (red wire) to + of the board, ground from USB (black wire) to ground of the board and to ground of the strip and the output of the board to the + of the strip.
