gcubed got a reaction from SpookyCitrus in HELP ryzen pc destroying RAM
As SpookyCitrus said, when using DDR4 ram it is always best to use rams SETS. You can mix and match but that can take days of fiddling with bios settings and the results are never as good as using a set of ram sticks. Basically mix and match is migraine inducing for even the most expert among us.

Additionally, ram clocked over 2133 is considered an overclock. The listed ram speed for a stick or set is not a guarantee, it is a certification. 3200mhz ram has been tested and certified to run at 3200mhz but what you can actually run it at will vary from system to system (in some rare cases you might even be able to run if faster).

I would suggest doing as Spooky said with the exception of booting at 2133mhz. Then stress test the memory. Then selecting the next up XMP profile and stress testing. Keep repeating the process until you run into stability issues. Then back it down one step and leave it there.

When has a government, any government, removed a tax? Once they get their hand in your pocket, the only way to get it out is to cut it off.

As for the whole video game violence connection...
Well, causing one set if pixels to destroy another set of pixels, if anything is cathartic to a healthy mind. To an unhealthy mind, no clue; anything could set it off.

gcubed got a reaction from Zodiark1593 in Can a LITERAL thunderbolt affect my PC? ?
Lightning strikes vary in power but will discharge between 1 and 10 billion (that's 'Murican billion, not British billion) joules of energy and produces between 30,000 and 50,000 amps of current. If your building's electrical system is hit, no consumer grade UPS or surge suppressor will protect against this (most commercial grade products can will fail, also).

The good news is, that most lightning strikes do not hit home wiring or the wiring just outside of the home, so your electronics usually will not take the full brunt of a lightning strike. So does your home UPS/suppressor protect against a lightning strike? Depending on what it hits, how far away it is and what it has to go through to get to your equipment that is a most definite, Maybe.

Personally, I think we have gotten a little complacent and NVidia should really change things up. Something really arcane like:

    1180 should be L12iEX
    1180TI should be L12i
    1170 should be 927cEX
1170TI should be 927c (by now you should have noticed that the NON-TI cards have the EX suffix).

Additionally, the Titan should be renamed Fred.

gcubed got a reaction from faziten in I tried overclocking my (comparatively) cheap 32 Gb ram
Well first off, just because a RAM stick is rated at 2800 Mhz does not mean it can't go higher. In all probability, it can (as you probably already know).

I would also like to point out, how far you can overclock RAM is dependent, in part, on the clock speed of the CPU. There is a good chance you would not be able to overclock 3200 Mhz RAM much higher than you are getting on your 2800 Mhz RAM without lowering the CPU clock.

One thing to keep in mind. With water cooling, using a push fan configuration will cause a dust build up between your fans and radiator that is sometimes hard to get at with a can of air. You have to every once in a while separate the fans from the radiator to do a thorough cleaning.

Actually, LTT acquired Nvidia through some decidedly shady stock manipulation. It was a hostile takeover. Nvidia's entire senior management team has been "released" and the organization chart has changed. Slick is now COO and a Zip Tie has been installed as CEO. The dress code has been changed and now everyone is required to wear sandals. The new Nvidia logo is a turnip.

gcubed got a reaction from 3 Lions in What would it be like using a half core CPU?
A "core" is not a single homogeneous mass like a cube of Jello. You can cut the Jello in half and hand one half to someone else so both of you can enjoy that gelatin goodness. Cores are heterogeneous objects made of even smaller discrete components. Cut a core in half and you have two candidates for the landfill.

btw, if you are cutting up cubes of Jello and it is lime Jello, I recommend not cutting it in half and giving it all to the other person to eat. On the other hand if it is cherry Jello, I recommend not dividing it and eat it all yourself.

First off, good ol' H.Sap is not an ape.
Second apes are not anthropomorphic because they have not been "morphed" into a human like shape.

Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Taz and the Animaniacs are examples of cartoon anthropomorphic characters. Anthropomorphic representations are not just limited to cartoons, it has been around almost as long as people have existed.

As for the Furries, well, they are a little bit weird but harmless. It is the people that like viewing pictures and videos of kittens that really creep me out.

gcubed got a reaction from jimmyjimmies in 1080ti Strix (ASUS) vs ICX FTW3 (EVGA)
Originally, the word was mid-March for release. Late-March (March 23, to be precise) ASUS put out a press release that said world wide availability late-March and to contact local ASUS representatives for specifics. Rather conveniently for ASUS, there is no contact information for their "local ASUS representatives", if they do exist.

Now I am going to go out on a limb here, but to my way of thinking, shipping in Asia, pre-orders in Europe for shipping mid-April and early May does not constitute "world wide availability" in mid-March or even late-March.

I swear to God, PNY is looking better and better to me every day. Sure the Strix is a way better card then a PNY FE, but at least they aren't yanking their customers' chain.
