  1. I’m currently in the process of upgrading my system. I have 8gb of DDR3 RAM and I’m finding myself more and more running out of system memory. I do more programming than gaming on my machine and was wondering if any other programmers have an idea of the maximum memory usage they’ll see. Typical programs I’ll have open, sometimes all at once (at least I need them open all at once sometimes but will sacrifice programs to not run out of memory) Chrome (half my RAM right there with a few tabs of stackoverflow) Discord Visual Studio 2019 Notepad++ Bitvise SSH client Windows RDP Share X Many windows of File Explorer Typical background tasks like stream and f.lux
  2. Hello all! I've finally decided to upgrade my gross A10-7850K CPU to a Ryzen 3600! I've already purchased it and it's on its way (it's been on back order for a while) I have yet to get a motherboard for it, however. I was hoping to get a motherboard under $100, potentially like this. My question for anybody on team red is: how likely is it that the B450M motherboard BIOS is going to work out of the box with Ryzen 3rd gen? If it doesn't, could I at least get into the UEFI so I could do a flashback with my 3600 in it, or will it not post at all? I'd like to know before I purchase a motherboard, from what I've seen in product reviews though, it seems to be some kind of BIOS lottery. Note: None of my friends own a Ryzen 2nd gen (or AMD, for that matter) and the closet computer shop who could help me flash my BIOS is 35 miles from where I live
  3. I've had my ubuntu server for a while and i want to add more machines. I haven't really done anything to my server(except probably decrease the security) so i don't want ubuntu to be it's OS anymore. What's the best virtualization OS(an OS specifically designed for virtualization and nothing else.) I DON't want a host either(i.e, Linux running virtualbox running another linux/any other machine) I think VMware can do it, but that costs money(which I don't have), any alternatives? Perhaps a linux distro designed specifically designed for this? I think I saw Linus do this in his 7-gamers-1-PC video, but it might have been something different (and expensive)
  4. I'm sure it could help, or have useful macros, but is it just a convenience, or should I go out and spend over $50 on mice and keyboards just to have a good PC gaming experience?
  5. Thanks! I took the top fan and flipped it around and it makes it run a bit cooler! around 60 deg using the same benchmark on P95
  6. "You should never ever do this" lol not sure if i want to
  7. Ok, but my fear is if I remove a fan or two the temps might increase 10 deg or more. (I really would like remove remove those noisy things). What can i do besides undervolting? Is there mullex fan controllers that if the CPU gets to a certain temp they turn on, or you could to speed curves? Or could i just by an efficient after market cooler and take out the fans entirely
  8. Yah but my dad said it's probably better to get it a little cooler. Even with all the noisy fans it still gets that temp.
  9. ok i'll try it and run the same prime 95 benchmark. What should the voltage be though (I believe it's 1.25V, but it's whatever the stock is.)
  10. I also have an unattached fan(3 pin chassis fan) at the bottom (I ghetto mounted) that the cable is too short. I think if i can find an adapter and have it running, i can switch the top mullex fan to be an exhaust fan.
  11. I was thinking about buying one but wanted to see if there's any other options. Also I'd like to squeeze as much performance out as possible(No, i'm not overclocked) I'll look into the cooler. I don't want it costing more than $30 cuz that's all i have
  12. I built my new AMD A10 7850K(This is my first gaming PC build) machine about last week and it's really loud(Like a server rack loud) and hot. What should I do? Case: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-case-vl800p1w2n CPU: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-ad785kxbjabox Fans(All face in for positive air pressure) 1 Back chassis fan 2 Mullex fans (One on top and one on the bottom) 1 Power supply fan on the bottom 1 Stock CPU fan with stock CPU thermal compound The CPU runs at about 65 deg on prime 95 on full load. Runs about 30 deg idle. The room i tested in is about 25 deg. Note: I accidentally touched the thermal compound(only a little) not realizing it was actually attached to the cooler Also, I would like some home remedies (I think i have some arctic cooling thermal compound lying around) So should i buy a custom cooler? Should i buy a fan controller? Or are there other things I can do to limit the noise and cool the CPU down. Thanks!
