Why does Android even software render out the notch? On iPhone the Notch is just a physical gap in the display, the software still renders what would be under it, its just that there are no pixels to display what would be under there.

DrMacintosh reacted to Mira Yurizaki in What Happened To Laptop Docking Stations?
Because the problem they're trying to solve, getting everything connected in one action, has been resolved by USB-C. You can plug in literally one cable and get everything you need now. Though even then with older USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt ones, everything you need except power could be off one cable

Plus people tend to be mobile with their laptops, liking the option from going from one surface to another.

USB3, not necessarily USB-C. The main point of a docking station was to provide power and port expansion to a laptop. They're big band bulky, and tied to a specific laptop model range. USB ones are universal, although for the ones I have power still had to be done separately as they're not C powered, and still use the older USB connectors.

DrMacintosh reacted to Commodus in Careful what you say! FaceTime bug allows users to hear audio before accepting the call.
It's pretty embarrassing, especially given the CES ad about privacy, though there is that fix coming later in the week.  Apple also disabled Group FaceTime remotely, so you can't try it even if you want to.

It's a good thing Android doesn't have an OS-level FaceTime equivalent (Google Duo is the closest you get).  If it did, you'd probably be waiting weeks or months to get a fix for an issue like this.

I'd say iOS 12 is perhaps the least buggy iOS release. Imo, it's way ahead of the trainwreck that is iOS 11. Also, security bugs are something common because anything compiled by man will have imperfections. Also, I actually commend Apple that by the end of the week the security bug would be fixed unlike Facebook that has vulnerabilities that persists for months. [source]

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Aldoarip in Apple's doesn't want to support Nvidia in macOS
With the official support of eGPUs in macOS High Sierra Nvidia released "Web Drivers" which added limited support for Nvidia GPUs to function in a macOS environment. Since then though, Apple has not allowed Nvidia to publish new drivers for any of the later versions of macOS, specifically Mojave.

But why have they done this? Well, Apple and Nvidia have a bit of bad blood......
So as you can see, Apple and Nvidia have a long history of poor business interactions, and those aren't even all of them. One of the biggest infractions was that Nvidia refused to admit any fault and provide compensation for failing GPUs inside MacBooks with failing Nvidia GPUs.

Some people have claimed that this decision is Apple being "anticompetitive." However, the way I see it, Nvidia is the one responsible causing the situation they are in and for refusing to play ball. Apple isn't going to do business with a company that (from their perspective) provides an inferior product that costs more. Nvidia made their bed with their poor business practices, and now they have to sleep in it.

Nvidia of course does not believe that they have done anything wrong and believe Apple is unjustified in blocking support for their GPUs. Providing this statement when asked about the status of web drivers for later versions of macOS
Nvidia cards have no technological limitations to working on macOS, but internal politics demand that Nvidia cards be out of the picture.

Developers were asked about any insight that they had on the subject:
I personally have no idea who this person could be, it must be some long standing person in a leadership position with either an engineering or software background. Hell, it could be Tim Cook himself, but I doubt we will ever find out who it is.

The authors of this article seem to believe that it would be in Apples best interest to support Nvidia cards for their upcoming Mac Pro, but I don't see why Apple should
Why should Apple do business with a company that doesn't give them a good deal? And in the context of macOS, what do their cards offer that AMD cards do not?

CUDA? Apple would rather people use OpenGL and programs on macOS don't use CUDA acceleration.
    Compute performance? HELLO? Radeon VII?
Ray Tracing? You mean the latest scam from Nvidia?
3D Performance? Its not like macOS has an extensive game library to use it on.....
Performance per watt? AMD has been "good enough" for a long time....also Vega 16/20 are amazing graphics solutions that run in 35-45 watt packages.

Simply put AMD offers enough performance and does good business with Apple. They provide reliable cards that do what customers ask of them and they don't go crying to the courts when things get rough.

What do you think? Should Apple allow Nvidia to keep publishing drivers? Should Apple do business with a company that does not respect them?

I personally fully support Apple in this case. AMD is a better company to do business with, and I would rather have their graphics solutions in all Mac computers #BetterRed

If I had to do a project with Java today I would either try Intelli J or Visual Studio Code with some addons

Mac users were given a Dark Mode in macOS Mojave which Apple showed off at WWDC 2018

This feature was previously limited to system applications. Now however, Apple has expanded Dark Modes reach to include websites in macOS Mojave 10.14.4 Beta

This feature can be enabled by going to the "Develop > Experimental Features > Dark Mode CSS Support

This feature does depend entirely on the developers of websites to enable Dark Mode CSS support to their sites.

The Safari Technology Preview is also another way to test this feature, rather than installing a beta OS.

You have no idea how happy dark themes are finally becoming a thing, and people are finally recognizing why its useful. 10 years ago people just assumed I wanted dark themes because I was trying to be an edgy teenager or something. When really its cause I was usually up all night.
