Biggest feature improvement hands down. The more apps that can have tabs, the better. I'm not joking its a great way to work.

DrMacintosh reacted to Godlygamer23 in Do I need NAS drives for my Plex server/home file server?
The dropping out issue I believe relates to drives that use SMR, rather than CMR. If the system is not aware of the drives being SMR, it will consider them non-responsive and drop them. As long as the system is aware they're SMR and fully compatible with them, you shouldn't run into that issue. However, I would stay away from SMR drives as they are really slow when rebuilding arrays. I have used WD Blues in a RAID array, and never had issues with drop-offs. For context, I was using FreeNAS at this time.

No, you don't need them.  Are they a good idea?  Yes.  Reliability is what you're after.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Virtualbox is so slow
Firstly, you're not wrong. VirtualBox is a slow, but you can make is usable for non-3D tasks by installing the Guest Additions pack for your VMs OS, increasing the graphics video memory to the max, adding enough memory to your VM, and of course, installing your VM on an SSD.

I'd list what you currently have that way we can gauge what might be more useful. Also, what model iPhone?

I think we can safely kick the Razer off the list. Their reliability is abysmal, I wouldn't recommend their laptops to anyone.

If you were making local backups, you can't peak into those data files and get photos out of it, you can only restore from a backup with a local iTunes backup. So without another iPhone, you can't access your data. If you had been using iCloud, you could log in to iCloud.com and download all your photos and information.

Did you back up to iCloud? You can go to iCloud.com to get your photos. I don't think there is a way to hack into your backup file to get your photos. Maybe do a google search for some software that can give you access to your photos.

Otherwise there isn't really much you can do if your phone won't turn on.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Lurick in Would a PC in a vacuum chamber overheat?
Air cooling and water cooling only work because there is some medium to carry heat away from the components. Without any air, no cooling can happen and the components would over heat. There is a reason cooling components for space objects like the ISS and satellites is completely different from what we are used to with our everyday electronics.

DrMacintosh reacted to Lurick in Would a PC in a vacuum chamber overheat?
Because there isn't any airflow the rest of the parts, or anything not actively cooled and being able to dump heat outside the vacuum, would overheat

DrMacintosh reacted to BondiBlue in How to use a macbook with a separate display
Your MacBook needs to be connected to power in order to use it with an external display while the lid is closed.
This is incorrect. Clamshell mode does exactly what you're saying can't be done.

Plug the Mac into power. When you do that the Mac enters "clam shell mode" and you will get a video signal out.

I do not envy having to be a software dev that has to build a graphics drive for a variety of graphics cards that are expected to run in literally infinite combinations/variations of systems. If you think about it, its kind of an insane ask.

In the future use ad blockers and don't download stuff unless you 100% know what you're doing.

Reformat all drives (preferably with a different OS and on a separate machine), do not restore from a backup because you likely have backed up your malware. Update your BIOS, format a USB drive, create a bootable Windows installer, add your drives back and install Windows.
