Is there really anything to relearn though? Excel runs on the Mac. It should simply replace "alt" with "command" ?

Thunderbolt is well, Thunderbolt. This baby can fit like, idk, 4 PCIe lanes in it. What can USB do? Some data and some power....maybe.

Not a fair comparison, but interesting none the less.

    My question is ....
Why bother comparing a thunderbolt (Thunderbolt 4 at that) cable with a non thunderbolt cable :x

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Cyberspirit in Android phones disabled remotly in Mexico
The problem is that people paid real money for these phones. Illegally imported or not, the consumer likely had no part in that and simply purchased a phone from a store/private seller. These people have no phone and are now being graciously given a 30% off coupon to buy a new one.

Yep, they are fine. We use 2 Seagate Ironwolf drives in our little 4 bay Synology backup NAS. All it really does is make daily backups of OneDrive/SharePoint and cold store data.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from BondiBlue in IPad 10th Gen Alternatives..
The iPad really is the first and last choice in tablets. Alternatives from Samsung exist, but are not most consumers first choice.

In the lineup of iPads, the 10th Gen iPad is a good device, however needing to use the 1st gen Apple Pencil is a huge drawback, but it's serviceable if you don't mind carrying around the pencil separately. The magic keyboard folio for the 10th gen iPad is rather nice to make up for that though.

Anyway, I would look into an iPad Air if possible. Apple, in the US at least, is having its back to school sale right now:
    https://www.apple.com/us-edu/shop/buy-ipad/ipad-air

Alternatively, a refurbished model would be an excellent option. Get one of those, the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil, and a case and you'll be all set. Logitech has a much cheaper keyboard case for iPads if you want one of those.

For something that isn't from Apple, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite gives you a lot of value:

    So
If your editing you want SSDs for the working edits and only use HDD's for archive.

Unless you buy a massive amount of HDD's and pair them together via RAID 0 or 10 (I would not use RAID 5 or 6 for editing storage only) you'll get better performace per disk from a SSD so i would recommend actually using a mix.
SSD's for the share your using for editing
    HDD's for archive

Then for the comment on backups (because you should have a backup plan):
I second this,HOWEVER OP needs to implement a 3-2-1 backup plan since this is critical data (customer data).

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Holmes108 in Tesla's Secret Range Complaint Suppression Team
I have to wonder, is Tesla actually lying about the range of the EVs or are they doing what literally everyone else does when it comes to phone/laptop battery life? Sure it can last 18 hours watching videos. But once you fire up Final Cut Pro the battery is going to drain pretty quickly. Car range is determined by speed, temperature, and if cabin features like AC/Heat are on. Gas cars have this same problem, though on a less dramatic scale.

My (petrol) car gives an estimated range based on recent driving conditions. If recent mpg is low, estimated range drops. If recent mpg goes up, estimated range goes up. It can be amusing seeing the estimated range go up as I drive on a long trip, since I get worse economy when leaving urban areas than on the highway.

Defaulting to best case conditions may be on the optimistic side, and a more typical average is probably more useful. But then, they'd get some complaints the indicated range on a full charge is less than advertised.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from NinJake in Seagate Closing L1 and L2 Support Tomorrow
What exactly would L1 and L2 techs be doing over the phone for Seagate? Is the drive plugged in? Is it making some clicking sound? Seems like a large expense for nothing beneficial for the user.

Jokes aside, the "compatibility" list means very little. From everything I've heard you can put just about any drive in there and it will work.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Zando_ in How many times can you trip OPP, OCP, SCP on a power supply?
If it didn't outright die, that probably means the OPP/OCP protection did its job and actually not only saved the life of the system components, but of the PSU itself.

Well that's good you are aware of that. Personally I like Eaton the most but APC is also good as well, just be mindful that most cheap UPS (even from APC) come with low quality batteries so make sure you replace it after 3-5 years (the battery) and do power loss load tests to make sure the battery is currently in good condition. They can go bad and fail to hold any load when you actually need it to.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Best option for Plex Library storage upgrade
You could just get a simple 4 bay DAS, essentially a 4 bay USB drive enclosure. Spread your library out across all the drives to improve response times or put them in software raid for faster read times across the board.

I have one of these hooked up to my 2018 Mac mini that's running my Plex server:
https://www.amazon.com/OWC-Mercury-Elite-Storage-Enclosure/dp/B09SC124GS/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1ST9N3URB0RW7&keywords=owc+mercury+elite+pro+quad&qid=1687220493&sprefix=owc+mercury+elite+pro+quad%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0 though cheaper DAS units exist.

There is a model $100 more expensive with hardware RAID support. I personally don't use RAID though since I never have more than 3 people streaming plex at a time. All my media is on a single 12TB HDD.
